Why are you letting a dentist pull your teeth?  Have you considered going to an oral surgeon for this sort of thing?  I took my eldest to the oral surgeon twice.  Once to have a baby tooth removed (it was preventing the permanent tooth from coming in) and later to have his wisdom teeth removed, as they were impacted.  It was uneventful and he did not have to return for any follow-up care.  I was pleased on both occasions with the oral surgeon (two different oral surgeons).  The dentist in both cases recommended an oral surgeon for tooth pulling.

Oh, I had noticed, but this sterling example of selflessness needed to be recognized [sm=crop.gif]

I had my regular dentist pull my teeth...worked out fine. Bled a lot though. Hurt like hell when he pulled them though. He just used novacaine (sp?)

An oral surgeon would take much better care of the sedation.

mine were just the back ones infront of the wisdom teeth...whatever those are called. I'd go to an oral surgeon for my wisdom teeth though.

My dentist never gave me any aftercare instructions when he pulled my other teeth...hmm...

Hmmm, indeed. Maybe the question then is not whether you should have the teeth extracted, but whether you should allow this dentist to do the work.

Take care of you, not your dentist.

MNN

Some insurances today will not pay for the differences or even the work--so in some cases people have to use a dentist versus a more skilled surgeon for what is seen as a routine procedure.

THAT right there should tell you something about the caliber of your dentist.

I'd suggest start looking for an other. Ask your friends and fellow workers at your job. References, References, References!!

YES.

Get them removed as soon as possible.  I waited and the extra cost and discomfort were not worth the putting off of something like this.  If you cannot afford it immediately, look into a Dentist or Oral Surgeon who takes CareCredit.  That's what I used.  It's your health.  Take care of it.

Hey there [;)] If that was to me, I did go to a surgeon.

bbwsubnnorcal -> RE: Should I have my wisdom teeth taken out? (3/29/2008 2:13:06 PM)

I had my wisdom teeth out at the age of 15 and needed an oral surgeon. Was unconscious most of the time but woke up in the middle procedure to the sounds of a drill and tooth breaking into pieces. Luckily, I didn't feel a damn thing.

All I kept thinking about was-----why are lips so stretched out that i look like a BigMouth Bass and WHY am i snoring so loudly?!?!?!

The Dr and his nurses looked down on me (realizing I was awake) and then blessed blackness.... aaahhhhhhhhhh----drugs. They CAN be a blessing at times.

Well, the Xrays should give them a better idea.

If he didn't think it was the wisdom teeth causing your pain, what did he think it was?
(and you know this already but being bulimic isn't kind to teeth.)

KatyLied -> RE: Should I have my wisdom teeth taken out? (3/29/2008 2:16:05 PM)

I had no problem with insurance.  Part of it was paid by the dental, part of it was paid by major medical.  But people should check this stuff out before proceeding.  Also wisdom tooth extraction isn't always just pulling a tooth.  It can mean breaking up a tooth and then extracting it.

I couldn't eat solid food for one month, spent three weeks drugged on the sofa. During surgery (so 'they' tell me) I tried to escape [8|] and in the end it is how I quit smoking cigarettes. But I have extreme TMJ and most will find it much easier. Get em yanked.

I have been having jaw pain for a few weeks now...but my dentist said that it shouldn't be my wisdom teeth b/c I had the teeth infront of them pulled. One is more impacted than the other one though. He said I could have them taken out if I want to though...but...I don't know. I'm kinda a baby when it comes to pain LOL that kind of pain at least [;)] I told him no...that I didn't want to...but I'm going back Wednesday for x rays and I could change my mind...and have them taken out...how long does it hurt after they are pulled? Is it hard to eat?

I actually just read an article a few weeks back about this very subject...and it said that pulling wisdom teeth is a racket.

Don't quote me, but I think it said something along the lines of...if you're under 20 and you're having problems, might be a good plan....over 25...it hasn't been a problem before...it's a racket.

Check Google on the subject...someone will have something to say on the topic.

I have to see who Medicaid will cover.

He said I may be grinding my teeth.

Maya2001 -> RE: Should I have my wisdom teeth taken out? (3/29/2008 5:31:15 PM)

Your 4 molars just in front are missing now so there in plenty of room along your jaw for those wisdom teeth , the main reason  wisdom teeth are pulled is because there is not sufficient room for them to come in  which causes problems with tooth eruptions and shifts other teeth , in your case because you have missing teeth is better to keep them as it with prevents your existing teeth from slowly shifting backword    which causes gaps and crookedness which has the potential to result in TM if the later teeth shifting results in teeth not lining up so that the mouth closes evenly >>   TMJ  is not caused by having wisdom teeth but cause from jaw misalignment often resulting from crooked or misaligned teeth or jaw injury, so if your dentist is recommended not removing then don't
I have recently had a wisdom tooth removed , it was removed just like any normal molar with needle to freeze the area first and once the freezing came out I had no need  for pain killers since there was none and nor did I need an oral surgeon to do it,   the x-ray will determine the root structure of the erupted wisdom  if it is not complicate then can easily be done by your dentist, but if the tooth has heavy roots well anchored into the jaw   or if the tooth has not yet erupted then a surgeon is recommended, aftercare recommendation can be oral and or in written instruction  and often the dentist will ask you to call them if you start experiencing any problems

They make mouth-guards to prevent it.
You can get them at the drugstore in the dental aisle...also because you have anxiety issues you may be clenching your jaw.

justheather -> RE: Should I have my wisdom teeth taken out? (3/29/2008 6:03:55 PM)

I had mine removed when I was in my teens. All four were growing sideways. I saw the xray myself so I doubt it was just a ploy to get my money.
I remember the diprovan moving through the IV into my arm, waking up once and being put back down, and then taking Darvocet after the fact. My mom made me bread pudding and it hurt too much to eat it.
That part sucked, but the drugs were good.
