I have yet to figure out a way to garnish some pussy from this hobby of mine. Which sickens me.

Might I suggest some fresh parsley and a nice lemon dill sauce?

on pussy? I'm keeping my cat and gf a long way from you.[;)]

Surprise me.   Wine is one of the things I know almost nothing about (other than cooking with it) simply due to the fact that I've yet to find a commercially racked wine that doesn't give me a migraine.  Small "amateur" wineries which don't add racking agents in order to speed the aging process don't give me those.

Snow is gone,  been getting good rain,  now we just need some warm days so I can go out foraging for morels.  My supply of dried from last year is almost depleted.

I absolutely love to go "shroomin", but the last couple of years I have gotten a terrible reaction to tick bites.  I have scars from the little buggers.

I've duct taped the legs of my jeans, used good bug repellant - they are just thick around here.  Anyone have any good advice on tick repellant.  I swear, I'm about to use some of the dog's Frontline!

LaTigresse -> RE: "Interest in hunting, fishing dropping" (4/1/2008 2:09:23 PM)

I wear long sleeves and LOTS of DEET. Then as soon as I come home I strip, toss the clothes in the washer, brush my hair, and shower.

In 1970 there were no wild turkey left in NY state. The state bought some and paid farmer's around the state to raise them. A friend's father was one of those farmers. Today they are in very healthy numbers but still rather sneaky in their habits. The only place I know to always find them is in the horse's paddock, where they pick up loose grain. And we don't allow hunting near the horses.

Wild Turkey's not bad...but my preference will still always be for Crown Royal.

..just out of curiosity, what do folks do with those cute little bags (other than protect the 3-piece set when it's -100 out?)

Forget the frontline it is not a repellent , tick still needs to make contact  with the wearer the chemicals in the frontline then attacks the ticks nervous system which results in them dying within 48 hours,   the reason it works to prevent diseases  is because a tick needs to feed for 36 hours on the same host inorder to pass disease such as lyme, babesia, ehrlichia, RSMF etc

Wear flea and tick collars around your ankles .. its not foolproof but does help

Gamers use the little bags to hold dice.  You can also
put dried flowers/herbs in them as a sachet.

Go to L.L.Bean.com and check out their catalogues for hunting and fishing.  They make clothing with insect repellent woven into the cloth.  (I am a mosquito magnet myself, even when covered in bug repellent!)

~FR~

The decline in hunting is also having an impact on the animal population. Hunting helps to thin the herds. Many states are seeing smaller game, disease and hunger from over population. The animal rights people must be happy though, even if the animals are suffering.

OK, update!!

I found about 3 pounds of morels in the last couple of days.

I doused myself in some heavy duty DEET (10 hour, 100% stuff) before heading into the woods.  I stripped, showered and washed my 'shrooming clothes immediately upon my return to the house.  I found several ticks crawling, but none biting at this time...and STILL have about a thousand tick bites all over the back of my legs and lower back.

I think they like my toxic blood.  And, I am really, really allergic to the little bastards.
