AutumnWolf -> Collared or Owned? (4/2/2008 1:51:52 PM)

Is there a difference betweent being collared and being owned?

MsHonor -> RE: Collared or Owned? (4/2/2008 1:53:33 PM)

ah... these are two of the mystical Words of Contention.

The short answer is, depends entirely on who you're talking to.

Domin8tingUrDrmz -> RE: Collared or Owned? (4/2/2008 1:55:05 PM)

A collar is a symbol.  Ownership is a state of being.

You can wear a wedding ring and not be married.  You can wear a collar and not be owned.

It simply depends on the relationship you have whether or not there is significance in a collar.

To me, none.

greetings E/everyone
greetings AutumnWolf ~~

to me, collaring is a commitment between a Dominant and submissive(s) or slave(s).  ownership is only possible for slaves, as they are "owned" totally and are the proeprty of their owner.  the opinions given by MarcusofAr early in the thread listed below, are the same ones i believe, stated a whole lot better than i can.  [:)]

here is a link to another thread, which is in the Ask a Master section, asking the same question:

well wishes,

i was owned when Ma'am said so and i accepted it, it was over a year later that i was collared.

Domin8tingUrDrmz -> RE: Collared or Owned? (4/2/2008 2:08:30 PM)

Thanks.  So do I. [:D]

DiurnalVampire -> RE: Collared or Owned? (4/2/2008 2:18:15 PM)

For some there is, for some there isnt.
Angel was owned before he was collared. Fox was collared fairly quickly.
I had owned boys and girls before Angel and Fox, but Angel was my first collared slave.

For me, collaring is a step in the relationship. Ownership is the relationship, collaring is a step in that relationship. One can be owned but not collared, someone cannot be collared and not owned.

Whatever difference you perceive is the difference that exists - for you.

RavenMuse -> RE: Collared or Owned? (4/2/2008 2:22:53 PM)

Each to their Own.... in My case I Own My girl but have not yet offered her My collar. To Me it is not just a symbol of where W/we are going but also of having done all the groundwork to best ensure We get there.

adoracat -> RE: Collared or Owned? (4/2/2008 2:49:17 PM)

You're not AtmnWolf from NFS are you?

Reposted:
Generally, ownership is considered a state of being within a relationship.

Collared generally tends to be a statement of going through a specific act of having a collar placed upon you.

But, many people consider themselves collared without the element of ownership, and many people consider themselves owned without ever putting on a collar.

LadyPact -> RE: Collared or Owned? (4/2/2008 10:07:33 PM)

Yes, it really is going to depend on who you ask.  I happen to be one of those who has a bit of a different take on the 'ownership is only for slaves' train of thought.  I happen to have a sub, but I still see Myself as his Owner.  A lot of this might go back to the overly hashed (and please, let's not rehash it) sub vrs slave debate.  All I can say is, I certainly own every part of him that is submissive (take it as you will) and I would have to say that was before he was officially collared.

For those who are content, the definitions matter little, where happiness is found.

LadyPaige -> RE: Collared or Owned? (4/2/2008 10:13:26 PM)

I'd like to see the official BDSM dictionary with all the possible definitions listed.  It would be longer than Webster's.

LadyPaige -> RE: Collared or Owned? (4/2/2008 10:14:42 PM)

An no wonder slave contracts are so long.  Every word has to be meticulously defined.

Kirren -> RE: Collared or Owned? (4/2/2008 10:49:18 PM)

My kitten is collared, it is a collar of consideration. I will place a permanant collar on her at some point when I feel the time is right, and at that time I would consider her owned. But we are still learning each other. The collar stand for the intent, the idea, the reminder that she is working towards a goal. And once the collar of ownership is in place, I think it will signify a whole new meaning to both of us, meaning that she has been trained to My specifications, that she has learned all that I want to teach her at that level, and that she has shown massive growth as a person. And vice versa for Me....
But that is My definition...and it varies from person to person....
