But...what of the hamsters with actual aspirations...?!

No wonder the rodents never took over.

Well, I've never actually owned hamsters growing up but I did own gerbils.  I can't imagine their aspirations are all that different though, and as far as I could tell the aspirations of gerbils are to scamper, eat, poop, and sleep.  They also liked to play leap frog but they weren't very good at it.

I'm going to end this digression now due to the unflattering irony that on a thread about intellect, I am talking about gerbil poop.

Using fast reply, I realized the other day that I forgot one woman who's intellect I admire a great deal. Naja. Her knowledge and education is obvious.

As for debating styles, an issue several have brought up. I honestly don't feel that a style of debate, or type of opinion, negates the knowledge behind it.

As others have already said, I am not viewing this as a popularity contest..........to ME. Just because I admire someone's intellect does not mean I agree with them all the time, or even particularly like them. It simply means I admire the knowledge they obviously have and are able to communicate through their words.

Ditto. It's also difficult sorting out whether one admires someone's intellect on an objective level, or because we agree with most of what they say and with their outlook on life...

Well, even academics have yet to decide exactly how to objectively quantify intellect under test conditions... never mind doing it through casual message board posting. Someone who appears to have a vast amount of knowledge may just have a lot of free time to look stuff up and repost it as their own

It's logical to consider someone intelligent if they agree with you- after all, the alternative is making the determination that your own beliefs are stupid. Personally, i'm more impressed with someone who makes a strong enough contrary argument to make me change my own point of view.  Of course, this almost never happens since im so smard.

With all that said, i don't encounter a lot of people that i consider to be so intelligent that they're effectively functioning on a higher level than most of us, but Aswad definitely strikes me as one of them

In my time out here on CM I have never put out a list of those I enjoy.

It would be rather lengthy...Whether my enjoyment is simply derived from bewbage or the participants actual posts...The fact is that it is a unique place to share ideas, laughter, anger and bewbage.

Although the political threads can get a little heated, there are many folks "on the other side", that although we might battle should know that they are enjoyed and respected.

I like the feel of many of the posters...Some know who they are...For you others it pains me to know that we will have to endure an unrequited love. (Domiguy dabs a tear and some snot away from his eye and nostrils)...It's all sooooo sad.

It would be a hoot to have the chance to meet you all. (and by "all" I mean actually very few of you)

Go with God.

Whoa! Check it out folks! I made somebody’s list not once but TWICE! Woo-Hoo!!!!! That means I’m better than all of you, HA HA HA HA HAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!

Opps... Sorry.... That wasn’t very dignified of me. It’s just that I have this intense need for external validation. Thanks for the pick though.

I just hope one of those Marc’s wasn’t a misspelled "Merc."

You're right...and it's in "smart smart" so is that smart cubed or smart to the 4th power? Or smart x smart x smart x smart? Solve for smart...earn your title and tell me

smart smart = (smart)2

Marc Marc = (Marc)2

So....

(Marc)2 = (smart)2

which would mean that....

Uh oh...

Marc = smart

What a minute... that would mean I am only half as smart as everyone else on the list. Oh dear... this isn’t working out the way I wanted it to at all. I must be doing something wrong...

What a minute! I got it.

If (name in list) = (smart)2
then...

Marc = (smart)2

so...

(Marc)2 = (smart)2 times (smart)2

or

Marc = (smart)4

That’s better.

Well I just perved your profile and I think you got a great rack. I like the office photo. Believe me, if we were working in the same office I’d have a hard time concentrating on my work.

By the way, I agree with you about Sekks needing to change that picture.  When the hell did he turn into Disco Stu?  Oh lord, I can hear it now:
