Ok, if you're asking Me personally, I would say yes, it's a waste of time. This is due to the point that I have the view that online only domination just doesn't have much worth to it. There is nothing based in reality that anyone can do online that can't be matched by the things a sub can do in person. However, someone in person can accomplish endless things that can never be achieved online.
That is not said to bash you or anyone else who participates in online D/s. For some, it works, so hey, more power to it. Still, I always ask them why do they settle for only what they can have through the computer, and what stops them from pursuing having it in their physical life? People come up with all sorts of reasons. Where they live. They might be married. Their age or appearance (if you don't believe that last one, take My word for it). Logical excuses all of them and if they suit the person, then they suit Me.
Now you have to look at it from the other side. If there's a barrier to you participating in the physical aspect, chances are the other person that you are dealing with has one, too. It means they aren't willing to overcome that barrier for their own fulfillment, so why do you think they will overcome it for you?
I tend to think that the online only thing fades because there is only so much progression that can happen without the physical element.
