ok, So I might be having a little UM soon, but I don't know yet. I just was hoping to get a little feedback on some names you guys like. So far I've thought up _-Girls-_ Lilia Serenity (Lilia is inspired by the song Lilium which is heartwrenchingly beautiful to me) Kailani Rayne (Kailani means Sea and Sky I've always loved the name Rayne) Mairi Skye (just a name I think is pretty, loved the name Skye) Inali Hope (Black Fox of Hope) Ally for short -_~Boys~_- Mikhail Oland (Irish form of Michael, and Oland is my adopted father's name) Kristofer Charles Seth Michael Ahanu Sage (Sage who laughs) Tokala (My Fox) Tecumseh (Shooting Star) Historical meaning... I have extremely strong Native American Influence in my family. I put this in the random stupidity forum, because I just want people to come up with other names they like, And feed back on these, Have fun with it you know? Ah well, Let me know what you think!

First...i hope the pregnancy test turns out as you want it to! When we were expecting our first miracle we used a baby name book and chose a name not only cause we liked it, but for the meaning as well.

Yeah, Those names all have meaning for me, but my husband won't give me any feedback at all, so I just wanted to hear it from the general(twisted) public lol Everybody knows the feedback here's always more straightforward and honest edited to say my husband's name is Kevin Michael and his dad's name is Charles Kevin That's why those are mingled in there

Names are such personal and often complex things (which is probably why there are so so many baby name books!).I think there are a few things to think about, like what sort of nicknames can be made from the name?How hard is it to spell or pronounce?Is it a name that can make the transition from baby to adult? (I knew a woman named Bambee` and she had a really hard time as an adult wearing that on a name tag at work)Do the initials spell out something weird or obscene? Oh and I like Lilia.

I always urge people to use "normal" (for lack of a better word) names for their children. Most people don't want to spend their entire lives telling people how to spell their name, or how to pronounce it. Cali

Yeah I know what you mean, The names that are hard to spell are the Native American names. I also thought of the nick names, This is why I like feedback, I think I'll edit the first post with the translations for the Native American names.

From someone who still has to spell her name even though there were 3 other Kayla's in my graduating class and 7 more besides in my school... It doesn't matter how "normal" the name is, you'll always have to tell people how to spell or say your name.

Thank you. I have always loved Micaila as a name, but it's too close to my name and I'm not going to do to my daughter like my mom did... her name is Karla Mine is Kayla...

Cali's right. Phonetic spellings are best. In other words, spell it like it sounds. I voted for Mairi Skye, but how do you pronounce Mairi? If its Mary, then do the girl a favor and spell it that way, so she doesn't go through her entire life having to spell it out, and correct mispronunciations. Spell Rayne: RAIN. Spell Skye: SKY. Also, you should have separate votes for girl and boy names, so that we can vote for one of each. I wanted to vote for Seth Michael, for a boy. This was really fun though, thanks! Good luck!

Mairi is pronounced myree Sorry, but I do not agree with spelling everything like it sounds, I like originality and think about this Britteny Brittany Britainy Britny Britney Britni Britnee Are all pronounced exactly the same way. Which is the "correct" or "normal" way to spell it? I just think it's best to understand just because it looks like it would be pronounced different to you, you have to think of the way other cultures pronounce as well, Every person pronounces the same name in a different way.

How they sound and what they mean, are just the start of the process. One also has to consider how kids in school are going to abuse classmates' names - potentially making one's offspring's life a misery. I kid you not, we had not only two brothers, Peter Ness and Andrew Ness (Penis and Anus respectively) but also Richard Head (Dickhead) at my school. Then there are the soundalike names and anagrams possible to make from certain names. We had one really nice name lined up for UM-M, but combined with the family name it was an absolute no-no, though not on the above grounds of overt opportunity for insult, more a case of an unfortunate combination given certain cultural background we all share. I cant say more than that without giving my name away though! E

Being a logical type, what we did was go through the baby name book and each write down the names that appealed. Then we compared the lists and wrote down on a different list the names common to both lists. Got about 8. Stuck this up on the fridge and either of us could cross off a name if we didn't like it. As I recall we were driving to the hospital to have my son when I said that we still had two names left and really ought to pick one. An hour later there he was, name and all.
