Mine is pretty prosaic: I live in DC, and I'm a novice on Planet Kink.

This thread can apply to both sides of mthe slash as it focuses on persona not gender.
sometime , just review the Nicks used here on CM or Alt, or Bondage and ponder why that was chosed to represent the person behind it.

Dominants in the larger majority seem to feel a need to present an aura or macho bad as in some context and lately I see many subs proundly refering to themselves as some form of strength or brat persona, yet when one gets an opportunity to get to know these folks better, the nick just does not match the person.

Any thoughts?

CP

Sure, some people might have nicks that don't fit their personality exactly, but perhaps they chose the name because it is something they aspire to be, or they fantasise about being, or it just sounded fun. This is the internet, after all, and is often a place where people try out identities or personae that they might not be able to express in real life. Also, someone might generally be a shy or unimposing person, but when they are doing a scene as a dominant they become macho or bad ass or whatever else is indicated by their nick. These are just tags we give ourselves on the internet, and as such shouldn't be given much weight... we can't really be expected to sum ourselves up in just a few letters, so why not just have fun with it.

My nick (corvidae) is the family of birds that contains crows, ravens and magpies. I chose this because crows especially have characteristics that I identify with (they are smart, common but beautiful, they have a sense of humor (mythologically, and it seems in real life too), and they take care of each other (crows have large extended family units that watch out for each other).

I have been poenkitten for more years than  I care to remember and a kitten for many more than that. No one ever seems to ask what type of kitten and forgets that kittens of all types have sharp claws. Poen is from Poena Ipse Voluptas..the pain is the pleasure and it fits me very well.

Masters nick comes from the black moods he is subject to at times, but he always rises from them like a phoenix as well as from whatever negative life hands him.

Remember..when life hands you lemons, squeeze them into someone's open wounds and enjoy the screams of pain [sm=applause.gif]

So in essence I should call myself Red_Anhedonia_Nymphomania .... but that is a bit long... don'cha think?

Oh, but deliciously contradictory! Well, not so much if one thinks about it (just because one desires to rut like a wild beast doesn't mean one will enjoy it). But I like it!

Vigilantejustice -> RE: Nicks // why that one? (4/10/2008 10:56:37 AM)

Well, my Daddy is Danny Vigilante, a name he had both in bands and when he was DJing college radio. So when it came down to it, we chose Vigilante's Justice, but I had to drop the "s" to make it work on this site.

Daddy calls me Liska (LISH-kah) as a pet name, it's the Czech word for vixen (the actual animal).

I've also been called Kitsune, a Japanese shapeshifter (a fox who can take the form of a human, generally beautiful young women) when feeling more dominant. This jives well with my role as Alpha Sub and Household Steward. From Wikipedia:

"Inari's kitsune are white, a color of good omen. They possess the power to ward off evil, and they sometimes serve as guardian spirits. In addition to protecting Inari shrines, they are petitioned to intervene on behalf of the locals and particularly to aid against troublesome nogitsune."
Before that I was Venus_In_Furs and Whiplash Girl on usenet, back when I was young and stupid (mostly just young, I hope). I had never even heard of Sacher-Masoch's book, but when my freshman history teacher turned me on to the Velvet Underground, that song helped embody the ideals of who I wanted to be. So I guess I was kinky, and a touch toppish, before I even knew!

I introduce myself in the local scene by my real first name, since we're pretty well out, and I have an unusual name to begin with.

Deliena -> RE: Nicks // why that one? (4/12/2008 8:36:17 AM)

Fast reply without reading all answers: My nick is the name of a goddess I used to play on an internet roleplaying game and has been my online persona for many, many years (since I was around 17 or 18 I think).  I've always used it and it would feel strange to me to use a different name.

Raechard -> RE: Nicks // why that one? (4/12/2008 8:46:14 AM)

My name is Richard it isn't Richard1, Richard2 or Richard963 it's Richard.
