The most beautiful illustration of the political power of the Olympic games are the images of Jesse Owens and the thought of Hitler fucking off, furious that yet another 'non-aryen' was about to win the gold medal. (Incidentally, Owens and his colleagues got better treatment in nazi Berlin than in their native America.) Edited, because I'm a ditz.

In my view, the Olympics are both sporting and political. Primarily, however, they are financial.

It was an extremely significant message to me, massively influential growing up and Smith and Carlos are well-remembered by the people they were "talking to" that day. You should take a course in Cultural Studies, it'd do you a power of good.

It just shows that Merc doesn't like to be reminded that America was an incredibly racist, seggregated society where Jesse Owens was unable to take public transport or even walk into a bar. But I understand how it feels; believe it or not, even I enjoy being antagonistic at times [:D] .

I think using Nazi Germany and Hitler as points to bolster your argument was where you went wrong. I try to never use NAZIS as a reference. It's probably not a good thing to imply that Nazi Germany was better than the U.S.

The issue is more about discounting the work of Nazis and understanding what they were and what they did. They didn't have any redeeming factors and no justification can be made. No comparison putting them in favorable light reflects intelligence coming from the person making the reference. However, at least you got the tense correct. Remember that in the future.
