So who's going? I might, since it's just downtown.

GreedyTop -> RE: DragonCon 2008 (4/9/2008 10:00:31 PM)

I havent been in several years (time/money issues).  I did work it the last time I went (thereby avoiding the reg fees), but the hotel costs, combined with the gas costs to get there...*sigh*

If you go.. have fun for me :D

Hippiekinkster -> RE: DragonCon 2008 (4/9/2008 10:03:24 PM)

I wuz just kinda wonderin' 'cause some other kinksters are comin' in and I might be hosting a barbq thingy. Some of the techs are staying at Hardtop's place, which is close to me.

I might be puttin' a few up myself. 2800 sq. ft.

GreedyTop -> RE: DragonCon 2008 (4/9/2008 10:12:48 PM)

*whimper*  I do so want to go...  just not in the cards this year (again...*sigh*)

Rule -> RE: DragonCon 2008 (4/10/2008 1:47:34 AM)

I won't, but thank you for the notification. I just now apprised a friend of mine who is or will be published in the USA.

hisannabelle -> RE: DragonCon 2008 (4/10/2008 3:33:26 AM)

i've wanted to go for like...i guess this is the fifth year. ever since i got sucked into the wonderful world of wheel of time addiction. i'm really not even that far away. it's just greyhound to get there and hotels and everything...and i don't have anyone to go with so i'd feel a bit lost by myself. money is the biggest thing, though. i've bought tickets and reserved hotels and cancelled shortly before just because of money worries most of the time.

but someday...*sigh*

have fun, though!

Oh, that whole Robert Jordan series is just so fine. I also like L.E. Modesitt, David Eddings (some funny materiel) and Terry Goodkind.

Whereabouts are you located?

mhawk -> RE: DragonCon 2008 (4/10/2008 5:25:02 AM)

Greedy.

well here is some little known information about Dragon Con.I worked there in 2005 on the security team.on the opening day,if its a matter of funds,try talking to some of the staff there.that's what i did since i was broke at the time. they hooked me up with the security team.i wroked the first 20 hours to justify their paying for my pass.and it was well worth it too. i ended up working the entire weekend.

got to see a majority of the events.inlcuding getting to see Anne McCaffery(one of her last tours),witnessed the Miss Klingon Beauty Pagent,and helped Deborah Smith Ford(Trinity look a like) and all sorts of other events as well.

it's worth looking into.20 hours volunteer time,free pass in exchange.

GreedyTop -> RE: DragonCon 2008 (4/10/2008 5:50:38 AM)

I think it was 2005 when I worked it too!

Are you on B.com?

GreedyTop -> RE: DragonCon 2008 (4/10/2008 6:13:05 AM)

yeah...Agonyisecstasy

BlackPhx -> RE: DragonCon 2008 (4/10/2008 6:13:19 AM)

I would love to as the guest list this year is fantastic..but it all depends on Master being able to a) get time off or b) having a couple of sites to work on there for his company and them sending him. Yea companion tickets on Southwest airlines..

However for those who are sweating the money, consider getting together on a room, setting up a perpetual crock pot o chili and remember that Dear Ol' I F**ck*d the Economy Up Bush is sending you somewhere between 300$ and 1200$ depending on your taxes filed and marital/dependents status around May 3-16th. Squirrel that puppy away and spend it on a U.S. Convention instead of something imported from China [sm=car.gif]

poenkitten (no typing before coffee)

GreedyTop -> RE: DragonCon 2008 (4/10/2008 6:14:32 AM)

I was just going to say...

If you can`t afford a festival/event, volunteer for it.

I attended a bunch of music fests this way.I met David Bromberg volunteering.

Lynnxz -> RE: DragonCon 2008 (4/10/2008 6:47:51 AM)

I might go if I don't have anything to do.

It's like a 20 minute drive, hehe. ^_^  That being said, if I see any of you driving the wrong way down the one way streets, I'm going to beat you.

mhawk -> RE: DragonCon 2008 (4/10/2008 7:08:59 AM)

let's see, 2005....hmmmm that was the year we almost got shut down by the fire marshal within the first 6 hours of being open to the public and lots of bans on flash photoraphy.the lead for security even had it to where if poeple didn't listen after the 2nd warning we had full approval to take cameras until the end of the event.

my favorite call over our radios was one of two um's running around half nude in faerie costumes........we were too busy laughing to repsond..........got to help Trinity find her gun .....this is why they have the under 18 no admit after 10pm......................and then of course if one was lucky enough was getting the invite to the Dead Dog party and then end of it all.

i think i slept  a whole 5 hours over the entire weekend.

LMAO!! yeah, the fire marshall thing sounds right.. LOL

I did security (kinda) for one of the contests.. not sure if it was Trinity.. cant remember.  All I remember is that we were trying to keep the stage hallway access clear, so I kept standing on a chair, yelling "ONE SIDE OR THE OTHER!! KEEP A PATH CLEAR!!" while dressed as a schoolgirl... *laugh*

If I do go, I'll probably just take the train from North Springs.
