"Florida lawmakers pass "take your guns to work" law"

"TALLAHASSEE, Florida (Reuters) - Most Florida residents would be allowed to take guns to work under a measure passed by Florida lawmakers on Wednesday.

The bill, allowing workers to keep guns in their cars for self-protection, was approved by the Florida Senate by a vote of 26-13. It now goes to Republican Gov. Charlie Crist to sign into law.

Backed by the National Rifle Association and some labor unions, the so-called "take-your-guns-to-work" measure would prohibit business owners from banning guns kept locked in motor vehicles on their private property."

They have some nifty gun-safes designed for cars, like this one and the trunk of course.

I am all for the second amendment.. but having been in Law enforement.. this is just idiotic. Like people dont shoot up thier work places enough as is.... I can see a bunch of morons getting pissed of at thier bosses... and just having to go out to the car. Not even drive home and plan. Well fuck me...

Time to get an at home job... the folks at work are under tons of stress.

Gwyn,
who believes in conceled carry permits... and 2nd amendment.. but not dragging your guns around in your car. ( Did they even ask FDLE what they thought?)

Maybe we can become a more considerate and polite society. The next person you chew out might blow your fucking head off.

Mr. CEO, remember that whole thing about you pissing away people's retirement plans for your own personal gain? Well see, there's a line outside...and they're all armed to the teeth.

Cool.

Certainly it would decrease the population numbers, and that can't be all bad.

feh.  if I'm taking a gun to work, that puppy is going IN with me!  if someone tries to rob me (it happened in 04) I don't want my protection to be 100' away locked in my damn car!

cjan -> RE: "Florida lawmakers pass "take your guns to work" law" (4/10/2008 4:59:21 AM)

Florida, in case y'all haven't noticed , is a "funny" state. A couple of years ago the legislature passed a law legitimizing shooting someone if the shooter "feels threatened". Think about it.

Archer -> RE: "Florida lawmakers pass "take your guns to work" law" (4/10/2008 5:19:21 AM)

If my reading skills have not failed me the news article starts off with an inaccuarcy (LIE), the law they passed to their Governor is similar to the one Georgia sent to the governor to sign, specifies that Concealed Carry Permit Holders can leave their guns in their car, instead of being forced not to carry on the way to work or the way home.

That's not Most Florida Residents, that's those Florida Residents who have passed the background check and the minimum training to get a concealed carry permit. Hardly a majority of residents.

yup that is the defense in most states, however if there was no legitimate threat your going down.  Thats the rest of that story.

So your solution, then, is to not have any law-abiding citizens allowed to have their guns? Yeah, that worked great at Virginia Tech. That was a "gun free" zone too, wasn't it? And the campus shooting in....Indiana was it? Made a huge difference there too, right?

Smith117 -> RE: "Florida lawmakers pass "take your guns to work" law" (4/12/2008 1:13:38 AM)

I just find it funny they had to pass a "law" to allow that at all. Here in Texas, businesses can prohibit you from carrying in their stores, and we still can't carry into schools and such, but if we leave it in our cars, they have no recourse.

Not sure about that. I know for me, I would be a lot less likely to take a gun to work and shoot people, if I knew the chances were really good, that they would be armed also.

You have a point. People should keep their firearms on their person under their immediate control at *all times*.

My sir says the crime rates are lower in Fla. due to their gun laws. The criminals are scared. He lived in Fla but now in a chicago suburb. He has 2 handguns and a military rifle. I find that really Hot!

cjan -> RE: "Florida lawmakers pass "take your guns to work" law" (4/12/2008 6:01:36 AM)

Crime rates lower in Florida ? Lol, I wish. That's just not the case. Remember, in Florida, we're used to seeing running gun battles between folks with assault weapons chasing each other on the interstate. True story. What other state can claim that, huh ? Huh ? Not even the cowboys in Texas, I believe. Yup. yup, in Florida, some can't even poke their chads properly. But, if'n ya piss us off, make sure yer locked and loaded. Oh, and make sure we don't "feel threatened" or it's sayonara, baby.

I'd love to comment, but I've been told that as I'm not American, I have nothing to say on the subject. So I'll try to stay shtum [:D] .

cjan -> RE: "Florida lawmakers pass "take your guns to work" law" (4/12/2008 6:08:31 AM)

I, for one, would be interested in what you have to say, kitt. You dun need no stinkin' papers to have , and voice, an opinion.

kittinSol -> RE: "Florida lawmakers pass "take your guns to work" law" (4/12/2008 6:11:33 AM)

Guns should be [sm=whisper.gif] , and people should just carry axes [sm=axe.gif]to get the job properly done.
