Real_Trouble -> RE: Personality turn offs. (4/11/2008 9:35:44 AM)

My big ones would be major hypocrites, people who hold views which are totally absurd from an epistemological perspective and lack intellectual curiosity (they almost always go hand in hand - I'm fine with disagreeing with someone who has thought through there position), and those who lie consistently to me (as, if you're not stupid, I'm actually very willing to listen and I keep secrets... so people who lie to me tend to also be people who lie pretty heavily to themselves, which is always a red flag).

Though, as always, it's hard to judge on anything other than a case by case basis.

I'm so glad that no one described me.

I'm a gentleman first, foremost and always. Well, my disability gets in the way now n then. But I have learned I don't have to be so gentle all the time. WEG [Wicked Evil Grin]

think I want to hear.

Anybody that disagrees or agrees with a position, just because. These are generally the same people that will attack others for opposing positions on a whim, and again not explain the logic or reasoning behind it.

Ultimately, that is probably what people that don't like about me, which is I don't really care if you agree or disagree with me, I care about the thought process that led you there, if there isn't one or if it is based on other assumptions, and even if we have the same conclusion, I still would think you a fool.

LOL. Yeah, I'm an ass in a lot of peoples view, but I can explain why I've came to my conclusions and beliefs, essentially I can tell you why I am the way I am, and the reasons for it, most can't and don't even try to understand. I just don't have time for blind believers. They annoy me to no end, and why someone would take another person seriously, or find interesting a person that can't explain themselves is beyond me.

Example.
Do you think abortion is wrong.
Poster 1. It's a womans body and that's that!
Poster 2. Because god says all life is precious so abortion is a sin!

Poster 3. to Poster 1. doesn't the fetus have rights?
Poster 1. Nope it's my body.(Now, classified as idiot, they didn't explain anything or logic behind the belief just stated nothing essentially, no depth of thought, or philosphical relevancy, essentially bathering).

Poster 3 to Poster 2. Why does your God dictate my right and wrong?
Poster 2. Because it's stated in the Bible.(Now classified as an idiot, for obvious reasons).

LOL, one I have the same conclusion as and the other not but both are idiots.

Both posters could actually explain there reasoning and be held to non-idiot status, but don't, it's not the conclusion but the reason given for the conclusion that is relevant.

Oddly this doesn't bother me that much.

Many of the things I believe have no Proof or Reason I just do.

When people do that in ways I don't agree with I just go "Different Strokes for Different folks" It's the people who want to jump my shit and say my beliefs are wrong because thier are right that piss me off and I usually wanna hold thier heads under water and count bubbles with the likes of them.

I have to say it's the perpetual "victim" for me as well.  The ones that can't even have a discussion where you might disagree because to have a different opinion "hurts their feelings."  That's when I have to just smile and politely excuse myself.

God forbid you tell them to get over themselves-they tend to explode.

And then you get to here the "nobody ever listens to me" or "you are just like my dad/mom/granddad/boss/...".  My favorite is the defense mechanism of bursting into tears if anyone says anything true rather than either deny or disagree or agree.

Well, we probably wouldn't get along very well. LOL.

To me and I'm probably the oddball on this, a idea, or belief is only worth the reasons for that belief. I mean, if everyone had to sit down and explain there reasons for believing things in a coherent manner, no one could justify racism. It just logically breaks down, there is zero coherent thought that can justify it. Most such perceived "bad" human beliefs can't stand up to logically scrutiny, therefore it's my view that lack of examination of "why do I believe this", leads to many ideas being prominently promoted.

Not everything has a right or wrong answer though, but everything can have a reasoning applied to it.

Essentially, my point is if everyone examined the "why", they wouldn't be able to justify believing certain things, it is the blind acceptance, and the "just because" attitude that keeps many baseless ideas afloat.

I agree with the "proof."  Things such as spiritual beliefs, desires, attractions and even personal morals tend to just be truths for me and I assume they are that for others.  I do listen to others beliefs though.  Sometimes I get a new perspective.

I agree with that on some things and not others.  For example my beliefs that I should not be harmful to others, or how I think I should interact with my kids have no logic behind them -- they simply are beliefs.

Mentally ill people that shout crazy things at me on the train. I know I shouldn’t have been staring at his hand, oh well, live and learn.[:D]

DiurnalVampire -> RE: Personality turn offs. (4/11/2008 2:01:22 PM)

My 2 main turn offs when it comes to personality types.
1) the worthless submissive/slave types. If you come to me telling me how amazingly worthless you are and how little you mean to me and how little you could do that would make you useful... I am going to agree. Now, if I agree, why would I want to waste my time on you?

2) the Advice mavens. The ones who offer their opinions about your situaton and tell you how to "fix" things they see as broken, even if they are running as well as you have ever seen them before. I get a lot of unwanted advice on how to handle the boys, why I am treating one better/worse than the other and how to address that, and of course there are the few here and there that would offer to help me by taking one of them off my hands. HA right sure.

Heres a list, (gosh maybe im being cynical/negative)

* people who are deluded about themselves, their negative traits and that kind of thing.
* people who need you desperatly when they have a problem but will never return the favour
* self involvement, not seeing anyone around them as having feelings of any validity, not being aware that actions can hurt people
* people who fish for compliament constantly with huge woe is me stories
* people who can always find a way to justify being a fucker to everyone else, clever words or whatever that basically means that they think they can get away with shitting on everyone
* people who are so desperate to be right that they will lie when they arent, try and shift the focus or imply that the other is thick
* pretention, belief that everything in the world is increadably deep
* someone who believes that their prblems are bigger than anyone elses
* someone who lies about stuff, or covers it up (the big stuff)

xxblushesxx -> RE: Personality turn offs. (4/11/2008 2:09:11 PM)

People who have everything and still don't know how to have fun and enjoy life.
People who don't know the difference between an argument and a debate.
People who think they are clever, but are actually just mean.
People who make others feel less than, just because they can.
People who aren't kind to children, the sick or the elderly.
