For those who don't know, a hemaphrodite is a human born with both male and female sex organs. My question is, are both the male and female organs usually fully functional, or just one or the other? Does anyone know if there has ever been a case where a human hemaphrodite has self impregnated? I'm just curious.

subfever -> RE: hemaphrodites (4/11/2008 3:33:51 PM)

I don't have a clue to any of the above. But I'll add another question.

Assuming that there is one fully functional genitalia for each gender, would any of you sexually straight people consider dating a hermaphrodite who you found yourself quite sexually attracted to, before learning of this person's hermaphrodite condition?

(I'm already assuming that bi-sexual people would. But if you are bi-sexual, feel free to comment.)

Hmm... I wonder if the phrase "Go fuck yourself" is considered an insult to a hermaphrodite.

faerytattoodgirl -> RE: hemaphrodites (4/11/2008 3:44:29 PM)

hermaphrodite is a form of intersexed (around 11 known forms of intersexed exist-i am living example).  it is rare that the person is allowed to actually keep both genitalia... in most cases one of them is taken from the baby at birth or a young age (like 1 or 2).  many cases the patient and the parents are not even told that this happens(in my case).  but sometimes the parents are told and they never tell their child what happened to them.  though usually this child becomes the opposite sex the parents chose them to live as.  so they find out anyway.

almost always one or both genitalia are not functional.  they have problems because of hormonal issues and the fact the genitalia are fighting with each other, one trying to be more dominant (lack of better word).  this tend to help the dr decide which one to take away.

in some cases the child is allowed to choose, usually done before puburty or at puberty.  also there is often deformity within the genitalia.  many possible deformities can happen.

do not clump intersexed in with trans like soo many people do.  its way different.

hermaphrodite comes from the god/goddess hermes and aphrodite.

yes it is an insult... and for the record im gay...but having major problem finding female partners...obvious reasons.  bi girlss and men have always held huge interest in me but only for fantasy play (they assume so many things)  not anyone yet for an actual relationship.

Yet it should be safe to also state that many people who are trans gendered will still fall under the category as intersexed? I do understand that many trans people who are born being as one gender and later in life under go gender reassignment surgery. Yet there is a segment who, by the definition you give, are intersexed and still are classified as transgendered.

This is unreal. Surely it still does not occur?

no..because intersexed are biologically female and biologically male with official parts from both and can by xy, xx, or xxy and i may have missed one or two chromosome types....

trans are only one gender and will always be that gender with artificial parts from the opposite sex.  but they feel they are the opposite gender of what they are born.

they need signatures from psych's for the gov't to approve hormones, and surgery, and only after surgery can their origional gender on id be changed.

they can never be biologically or even have actual parts from the opposite sex.
breasts are often implants or grown from hormone intake.  they will not have ovaries...and the penis is just inverted into vagina (still the same penis and not an actual new organ).  intersexed cycle like normal women.  trans do not.  but trans can get some symptons from hormones that they take.
trans and intersexed are far far far different, with no relation.

it does..especially if parents are poor and have no health insurance.  dr's can then play god without being worried over getting sued since parents cant afford lawyer and some countries have laws where they dont give a shit.

i'd suggest reading the terminology section.

Just throwing this out there as a a fast reply...

1) What do the the y and x show?

2) Can the person repoduce and if do how, by getting pregnant or by getting another pregnant?

3) Is it possible to do both? Is there any medical evidence in nthe past 200 years?

Pyrrsefanie -> RE: hemaphrodites (4/11/2008 9:23:22 PM)

I can't answer the last two questions definitively, but XX indicates female, XY indicates male.  One X chromosome is consistently dropped by the mother, but it's up to whatever sperm from the father fertilizes the egg to determine the second X or the Y.

So when Henry VIII was killing his wives for failing to produce a male heir... in reality, it was his li'l guy's fault for not spitting out the right genetic code.  [8|]

this depends on the intersexed condition the person has...some can...some cant...i dont know the specifics.

xxblushesxx -> RE: hemaphrodites (4/11/2008 9:31:49 PM)

So Willow makes a utube video saying that she was born intersexed, and the following day there is a thread about 'hermaphrodites' with a rather insulting and biologically impossible question...is there a connection?
I don't know.
I do know that Willow posted a link before the last three questions were asked, and that the link positively addresses those questions.
I also *think* that when someone is a bit different, but willing to be open and discuss it with you, the subject should be approached with sensitivity.
I *think* that some of the questions that were asked could have been answered with a quick google search, or even a bit of biological knowledge, actually.
Not that there is anything wrong with asking questions; it's the way they are phrased that alarm me.
So many of us can't understand why the world can't accept us and our kinks...we didn't choose them, really...for most of us it was part of the package.
Same for Willow...except she can't even pretend not to be different. She doesn't have that choice.
We do have a choice in how we treat people.
I guess, since it's 'only' the internet, people can't be hurt by what you say.
It's only pixels on a screen.

faerytattoodgirl -> RE: hemaphrodites (4/11/2008 9:38:11 PM)

thanks but you didnt have to do that..and in fact i just took off my video...it was drawing too many bad replies.   the people i wanted to see it in the forums have seen it already anyway..so its all good.

xxblushesxx -> RE: hemaphrodites (4/11/2008 9:41:28 PM)

I was telling HoneyMaster about it, and He asked if I said something because I was upset about it. I told Him that I thought I should just ignore it. But He made me think about it some more...and and...well...I did.

MusicalBoredom -> RE: hemaphrodites (4/11/2008 11:21:17 PM)

OT

Well Faery, I for one am sorry you had to take it down.  I thought it was great.  It made me smile for a good while after I saw it.  I think it was the playfulness.

Lashra -> RE: hemaphrodites (4/12/2008 6:53:21 AM)

I have always thought if this were a perfect world and hermaphrodites had fully functional organs, that they would be the perfect human being. I keep wondering if Mother Nature will realize her mistake in splitting the sexes and one day all humans will be herms. I find it a fascinating subject to think about. No more sexism, or wars on women, but I'm sure humans as resourceful as we are, will find something else to kill each other over.

Fairy, I missed your video and wish I had seen it, I'm sure it was very informative. It's too bad people have to be so negative about things that they do not understand.

Why is that attempt at humor on your part limited to that part of our human race?  Do you consider the phrase "Go fuck yourself" an insult?  I'm sure you have heard it alot.

xBullx -> RE: hemaphrodites (4/12/2008 10:29:01 AM)

I never got to see your video, I can't figure the damn things out. I can't find this play button folks are talking about.

But anyway.

I like you all the same you darn Freak of the North.

I think what we find more times than not is that we all have a little freak inside of us and some get rather insecure with those that are comfortable being the unique little freaks that we are, hence they lash out in fear of their own personal discovery.

Life does have it's demons.

Whazzamatta? ... Got a problem with my attempt at humor? Did I manage to touch a nerve? Or are you playing Mother Hen on the rag again?
