BARTOW, Fla. —  Eight teens accused of taking part in the notorious videotaped beating of another central Florida teen are being held on bond.

A judge set bail Friday for each at $30,000 during their first appearance.

The state attorney's office says seven of the teens will be tried as adults. The youngest of them is 14. The eighth person is 18-years-old and considered an adult by state law.

They face kidnapping and misdemeanor battery charges. Three also face a felony charge of witness tampering.

The mother of one of these shitheads was on tv defending her.....amazing.

i was jumped by 6 girls in middle school...my mother took me to each girl's house explained to their parents what happened, and said i deserved a fair fight...all but 2 girl's parents agreed to this, and i got my fight one on one.(mopped the floor with the girls..the other two i got later in school.)  This group fighting mentality is nothing new...but the attitude of parents that can't admit their child's wrongdoing, sadly, is.

Dr King didn't only advocate non-violence for blacks. [8|]

Nice girl!

You turned lemons into sweet sweet lemon-aid.

Your mom`s a smart cookie.

She gave you and those bullies life long lessons on self-esteem.

~~~~~~~~~~~
I was picked on by our town`s bullies til about 13(all of them years older then me).
All of a sudden I wasn`t a skinny little kid anymore.I was 6 foot-195 and towered over most of them.
It took only one real good ass kicking on one of them to leave be and move on to greener pastures.
I also stood up for the wimps/pussies/nerds and geeks when I saw them being picked on.You`d think I`d get some free IT help some some of them(kidding).
All of that crap has left a lasting impression on me to this day.
Btw,a good number of my  home town`s bullies became LEOs.Telling....
I also don't see how a reference to Dr. King applies here.  He advocated non-violent means for people to express their disagreement with social inequalities and sometimes unfair laws. (ie how to protest against the government/establishment)
He didn't involve himself in announcing how individual people should solve their individual petty differences.
It seems to me that associating him in any way with teen-on-teen violence resulting from petty squabbles is minimizing the importance of the issues with which he concerned himself.
Gotcha [;)]
No, as your and the current case show, none of this recognizes racial boundaries. [:)]
There were 3 that I went to school with -- one is in and out of jail, one is brain-damaged from being kidnapped and beaten, and the third works in a grocery store. Pillars of society, one and all.
I've got a sneaky hunch he advocated non-violence for all sorts of things.
It seems to me that associating violence, certainly among our children, with "petty" issues, is ridiculous.
Nope.Gotta disagree.
That hero of a mom confronted not only those bullies,but the bullies` parents as well.
What a brave thing to do.She didn`t make them fight,or sic lronitulstahp on them like a mugger.
She gave them the chance to not fight,if they didn`t want to.
Doesn`t mean they weren`t going to be challenged or confronted over what they did to lronitulstahp.
And the fights were fair.Again,lessons in humility for the bullies.
And the parents weren`t going to escape the confrontation either.
Hell no.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

UMs can be incredibly cruel and even deadly sometimes.Add stupid parents to the mix and you have social disease.

I don`t how it was that the bullies in my town were able to get away with the things they did.It was like there was a curtain in between the adults and us.

lronitulstahp`s mom stood up for her when she needed it most and said "NO!, I`m not going to take this!"

But more than that,she sent a single to those bullies that her daughter wasn`t to be bothered again.

It`s amazing how bullies will change their attitude when stood up to.

As well,the stand arounds watching,will learn some lessons in respect.

It also lets them know that not everyone will act the victim and will respond with equal or worse violence.

I wasn't thinking about tulip and her mom initially (although now that you mention it, I don't know what King would say about their response)..... so King would be okay with some violence?

I agree with you that her and her mom were brave, as I'm not a pacifist.

To my knowledge  MLK never advised against self defense when physically attacked. Non-violence, in a MLK or, say, Ghandi socio-political context can be a powerful moral and political tool to effect social justice and change. It, hopefully, engages our empathy and our consciences to effect cahnge. Personal bullying is, imo, an entirely different matter.

I'd be curious to know if how King and Ghandi felt about that, CJan; not saying ya'll are wrong, I just don't know the answer.

Now, even setting aside self-defense, the young lady a few posts back seemed to be saying that violence on a personal scale fell short in terms of importance, at least as far as associating it with Dr King.

I still say "bull-caca" on that one. [:D]
