I make myself happy - and with that, lots of things help - rain when i am inside, sun, spring grass and trees, my birds, clean dishes, talking with my kids, reading, the feeling i get when i finish a quilt, lying on the floor that i just vaccumed, hummingbirds at the feeder, wrens feeding on the patio, patting bunnies, and the way my Sir can and does, make me feel.

        Attitude is everything.  Most people are exactly as happy as they have decided to be, or as miserable as they want, depending on outlook.

kdsub -> RE: Happiness (4/12/2008 9:14:16 PM)

The health and happiness of my grandson, daughters and all those I love. It not only makes me happy but it is also the most important part of and the reason for my existence.

PanthersMom -> RE: Happiness (4/12/2008 9:19:33 PM)

my kids and the "big kid" make me happiest.  enjoying a good hard laugh at something totally hysterical.  spring.  my nephew.

what would make me happier?  like everyone else said, money would help.  it would sure make life easier if i could find a job, but nobody's hiring folks like me.  they'd rather have able-bodied folks.  i'd like to hit the lottery big someday and make sure my parents and elderly relatives didn't have to worry.  all my kids and nieces and nephews would have their educations paid for, my friends would all get a nice little gift, my siblings would have their homes paid for, things like that.  i'd make a major contribution to my favorite charities.  my mom and i used to kill time making lists of stuff we'd love to do if we ever got rich.  of course you actually have to play to win, and i don't bother most of the time.  maybe once or twice a year.  but it's fun to dream and laugh about it.

What makes me happy? My UM, friends, dog, job (how many can say that?), peace of mind, chocolate, horse racing, spring is finally here (YEAH!) and all the flowers are blooming, a buyer for my house (what a relief).

From the most simple to the more complex, there are tons of things that make me happy. And that's the happiest thing of all. Life is pretty dang good overall!

CountrySong -> RE: Happiness (4/12/2008 9:49:52 PM)

I'm happy that I have found peace with the loss of my EX. That I can smile again and laugh and sing. That I can walk the trails and visit the places we went to and not feel like my heart and soul are being ripped apart. I'm happy that I can be alone and not feel like part of my soul is missing. I'm happy that every minute of every day no longer feels empty and alone.
Peace

oh Level...YOU make me happy [sm=cute.gif]

and so do most intangible things...love, service, the look on my UMs' faces when they are happy...

when I'm not happy, it's usually because of what I'm missing at the moment...a hug and a kiss from MrModo, a squeeze from one of my girls...stuff like that.  sure, I get a kick out of material things, there are a lot of things in my house that make it the comfortable haven I strive for, but material possessions hold the most value for me when there a happy memories attached.

pahunkboy -> RE: Happiness (4/13/2008 7:21:05 AM)

At the risk of the wrath of Mod 11;

a bottle of  xxxxx  makes me happy, but only when consumed in moderation.

happy is the absence of misery, dispair, intrusion.

in a way nothing makes me happy- since I constantly think 'what else do I want".   we cant have everything.   in fact having everything would in itself be un-happy.

I was unhappy a few times in my youth.  but that is part of growing into an adult.

A sunny day in the yard,  tho a snowstrorm is beatifull too.

happiness could be when the chemical in the brain trigger endorphins.
tho not having that- one can be both happy and not happy but not unhappy.

latly when im down stairs i want to be upstairs and vice versa.

lalbobbilynn -> RE: Happiness (4/13/2008 7:23:00 AM)

My children, being healthy, a bath, a good book, libraries, a few close friends, the ocean, being well rested all make me happy.

Learning something, anything new everyday ensures my long term happiness.

Happy I am not sure of. I kinda like using the word "joy" more. I believe in living with joy. Accepting all aspects of life, even those less than pleasant, with joy in it's completeness and balance. Embracing all of it.

So even though I suppose there are certainly moments that are happier than others I find a certain amount of joy in embracing all of it.

Not being happy; not being down. Always on a level, Level. I prefer to be content.

Hope always seems to help when I'm down.

That, and a little bit of sunshine.  [;)]

Edited to add:  Suprising how much happiness comes from fixing the quote boxes.

Being true to myself and having a positive mindset makes me happy.

There are many things I could list, that would qualify as things that make me happy. The one thing I find is a constant; productiveness. If I am being productive, I am happy.

MissMorrigan -> RE: Happiness (4/13/2008 8:45:06 AM)

Level, I prefer feeling content... and having that contentment spread throughout all that I do. My son recently visited and said that he loves coming to stay with me, I just smiled at him and he followed it up by saying, "It's b/c you are 'different', before you moved out you always seemed unfulfilled, discontented. And now... you're always so happy." and he was right, the former part of his comment made me incredibly sad b/c I never realised that he was aware of just how discontented I felt as I tried to put on a 'happy face' around my family. We just can't hide our inner feelings from our kids though!

I have a great family and extended family.
I have a job I cannot get up early enough in the mornings to rush to, and I leave each day feeling as if I have achieved something.
I come home to a wonderful man who's loving, is the sweetest person I know and says the loveliest of things to me each and every day.
I adore waking up to feel the warmth of the sunshine.
When it rains I have no doubt that people think me nuts b/c I'm smiling away to myself - doesn't the rain feel so darn good?
My cats, soon to be fifteen years of age, rushing around like fifteen week old kittens, and doing the silliest things.
Taking all my clothes off and dancing around like a loon to Amy MacDonald.
Putting on a pair of trousers that were previously tight only to find they are now loose. My arse is shriiiinking!
Each Friday buying cakes for my colleagues b/c we've all worked so hard throughout the week - we deserve a treat for our friday! And bringing home my boy's favourite - chocolate fudge cake [;)]
Watching the local ginger tom chasing a squirrel up a tree and knowing he'll never get it.
And ultimately?

Inner peace.

We choose our own level of happiness and should life provide a kick now and then, it's finding ways of dealing with it positively, instead of dwelling on the negativity.

BRNaughtyAngel -> RE: Happiness (4/13/2008 9:02:56 AM)

Simple things.......

Doggie smooches to wake me up.  Flowers.  Fresh cut grass.  Cool spring mornings.  Drinking coffee while watching the birds and squirrels play in the yard.  Laughter.  Quiet solitude.  Spending time with Him.  Bacon. [;)]

Unexpected love.

What would bring me more happiness?..... different living arrangements.... less financial woes....... and having my Hitachi back!! [sm=river.gif]   [sm=imissu.gif]    [sm=sad.gif]
