MLadyHathor, that was hilarious, and I agree!!

LaTigress,  my sister is much the same.  She can't go into one of those stores or she gets a migraine.

I tend to prefer subtle, mild scents, and nothing powdery.  I agree all our products are scented.  Scented shampoo and conditioner, scented hair styling products, scented bath soap, scented after bath lotion, scented deodorant, scented fabric softener on clothing, and then let's top it off with a good shot of perfume.  It's enough to kill the sinuses.

I almost asked the woman to move.  But I was halfway through my lunch, comfortable where I was, and apparently chose to grumble about it instead!

Thanks for all the replies!  As for me, I very rarely wear perfumes.  I use a milkbath soap from Whole Foods and Aveda hair products.  I have a mildly scented lotion that I use and that's it.  Sometimes I'll dab Mr. Wonderful's cologne under my chin so I can smell him during the day.

As for scented semen?  I prefer semen to smell and taste like semen, not like a Bath & Body Works product.
No, no, no, you got it backwards. Using semen as a scent, not scenting semen. Silly.

Why don't you try it Hippiekinkster, give it a go, create your own cologne from your boy juice. Slap it on yourself and do let us know your findings, I am sure we would all like to hear, especially in this world of rising prices for luxuries we increasingly find difficult to bear.

Aside from that, on a more serious note, perhaps HK, you have something there;

What people don't seem to understand is that perfume interacts with body chemistry. So a perfume should be chosen based on that rather than liking the smell of it.

Personally, i rarely wear perfume but when i do, i find citrus-based perfumes work best with my body chemistry. They also have a nice, clean scent.

Imagine this if you will, being stuck on a bus with a woman who was dressed head to toe in purple and absolutely REEKED of lilac perfume. I had to get off the bus as my eyes were watering up so much i couldn't see.

Ohhhh.....LMAO I haven't had coffee yet.  Ha!!!  OK that changes things significantly.  Hot hot hot!  A friend of mine does that, actually.  Well, she has a vile of his semen in her purse.  She takes it out and sniffs it from time to time.  He has a vile of her own wetness (which he took with a straw!) and keeps it in his pocket.

Hell yes, I'd wear his semen.  He has left it on me before, to wear for the day.  He's left his urine on me, too, to sleep in or wear for the day.  I love it!

As a general scent, to buy in a store?  Nah.  I like it because it's his scent, and comes from him.  It's not a scent I would otherwise enjoy very much.

Thanks for the clarity!  Time to grind some java beans!

Exactly.  There are scents that I love but that smell terrible on me.  There are other scents I'm iffy about, but smell really nice once on me.

There is an art to everything....Too much perfume is the equivalent of wearing makeup where your face is a dramatically different color than your neck.

I would take a lil' natural body smell over a pile of 'fume any day of the week. But again, I like a guys kind of chick...The type that can throw on a ballcap and be out the fucking door.

This is one of the problem that women routinely face...How to be unbrainwashed to realize that you don't need all of the crud that has been rammed into your brain....It is all an illusion.

If you need to apply makeup to go outside what does that really say about you?

My extent of perfume and makeup is some chapstick and an occasional splash of mandarin mango body spray. Other than that tis au naturale for me.  The boys are the same... deoderant and shampoo are their scents of choice

men are motivated by visual.  woman by audio.

men are also like a blood hound dog in regards to body scents.

i wonder if senititvy to smell differs tho between the sexes.

ild say- ppl now in 2008- view perfumes as intrusive ascompared to 1980s.   yet- we use dryer sheets, fabric softner, burn candles, use other things that have intrusive chems.

interesting- on paint- even when in a can the VOCs leak and head up-

I'm one of those with severe allergies to some perfumes and since this has been true since the 1970's I'm positive it is some of the so called natural scents that render me a gasping snot clogged wreck. Chanel #5 is the absolute worst offender. I have absolutely no idea what it actually smells like since I clog up immediately upon exposure. Some other scents both flowery and musky also affect me but not as severely.

Another special offender is patchouli oil and incense which both smells like bug spray and makes me start sneezing.

Honestly a woman who is clean and has no scent except her own is my preference.

With or without perfume, your scent should only be noticeable within an intimate distance - like a matter of a few inches. I prefer oils for that reason - and they don't have the lighter volatiles which I find abrasive.

People who slather on the cologne often do so because they become desensitised to it and think it is losing it's potency - so more is used each time. Had a guy in the theatre the other day who was using it to cover up the reek of booze. What a combo. (And not to hijack but how come we have to rub shoulders in most theatres? I hate sharing an armrest with a stranger.)

Smellin' Great,
Z.

I'm an oversensitive type.  I really don't like any perfumes, never wear any myself, gag at those aerosole and plug in "air fresheners" and can't stand Febreeze.

The world is against me.

Ewwww. I hope he has refrigerated pockets or she a refrigerated purse, or better yet, get themselves some clean vials and fresh contents every other day or so... the bacteria present in that stuff would have a field day in a nice warm body-warmed environment very quickly...... I mean it's a nice sentiment and all, but there are practical considerations....

The other thing going on is that a woman's ability to smell changes during her menstrual cycle. So if you put perfume on by the spritz it takes more spritzes at some times of the month to be able to smell the perfume than at others. And the ability to smell goes down after menopause. Which is why it's better to put it on by the drop, so you use the same amount each time. I touch the applicator to my pulse points. Sometimes I can smell them and sometimes I can't but I know I'm using the same amount.

TY, Aneirin. Did you know the whole book is there to read? Reckon I'm gonna be busy tonight.

I might give it a try, a dab of fresh on the wrists and behind the ears.

I didn't ask her how often they do that or change it out.  I thought it was a cool thing to do.  Obviously they're not going to go around sniffing something rancid. They live together.  I'm sure they can get fresh batches whenever they want!

Someone gave me cucumber shampoo. I used it once, rewashed my hair with something else before I even got out of the shower, and gave the cucumber stuff to someone who wanted it.

I couldn't stand the smell of salad hovering around my head.

In a restaurant, I have been known to cough uncontrollably and have to move.

So I was sitting in a cute little cafe eating my salad with my mango iced tea when a woman sits down at the table next to me.  From where I sat, I could taste her perfume.  I wondered why some women don't know the difference between a subtle, pleasant scent and behaving like a walking room deodorizor?  It's one thing to smell nice, but good grief, there is such a thing as overkill.

I guess this is my first official rant on CM, but sheesh, a little dab'll do ya!
