So I was sitting in a cute little cafe eating my salad with my mango iced tea when a woman sits down at the table next to me.  From where I sat, I could taste her perfume.  I wondered why some women don't know the difference between a subtle, pleasant scent and behaving like a walking room deodorizor?  It's one thing to smell nice, but good grief, there is such a thing as overkill.

I guess this is my first official rant on CM, but sheesh, a little dab'll do ya!   [&:]

I'll take perfume over overwhelming BO any day. 

BTW as perfumers move to chemicals instead of natural ingredients this problem will get worse.  Most natural ingredients are being "delisted" because the chemical companies insist they are allergens.

What we now get are sharp chemical smelling compounds that cause a lot more nasal irritation and unpleasant olfactory reactions than the natural ingredients ever did.

i am with you on that one! guys do it, too...my stepdad was always the worst for slathering cologne on.

i don't really use perfume myself (master doesn't like strong scents and i'm not fond of the fake perfume-y smell, although sometimes i like essential oils). but some people just need lessons in subtlety.

I love a good scent, but that's subjective..... my employer wears Red Door perfume, and ewww..... [&:]. But a woman walked past me in the store this weekend, and I don't know what it was, but she smelled exsquisite, I wanted to follow her around, sniffing.

i think 'Victoria Beckham' perfume is lovely, its kinda faint & not over-flowery!

I believe scents that have notes of vanilla, honey,carmel, chocolate and spice are the best. My favorites are Extraordinary by Avon. It has touches ofvanilla, ginger,and chocolate truffle. Unfortunately they stopped making it but a got a bunch through e-bay so I am set for years. You can also douse yourself with it and it is never overpowering,Overpowering perfume is not sexy and makes me naseous. Also Angel by Terry Miggler and Innocent by her too. These both have vanilla bases. The angel has notes of vanilla,honey and caramel

I have found that you drive men wild by smelling like Baked Goods![:D]

I believe a woman's scent should be like a dream as someone walks past or through, it is as Level said, an exquisite experience---not breakdown with men and machine guns and scream--get ready boys the bitch is here!

I make my own soaps, and my current favorite is tangerine. I have some cucumber scent that I'll put a few drops on my fingers and run through my hair, too.

I've been wondering if the scents in semen are an attractant for women.  ??????

Nothing beats other people feeling the warmth, energy and vitality of your presence.

However some people preferred to be smelled. It takes all sorts I guess.

It's really easy for me.  If it makes me wheeze and sneeze, I consider it garbage.  I prefer the softer scents (think:  The Body Shop or Bath & Body Works).  The expensive perfumes give me headaches.  Just sitting in church on a Sunday morning can ruin the rest of the day for me.

Too much is artificially scented. Cleaning products from floor stuff to dishwasher soap is laden with scent. Windex has an array of scented window cleaning choices.We now have sprays for 'removing scent' from the air! (Febreze has one out, as does Oust). It's insane. I am chemically sensitive which means no matter what the end result of the product is for, it makes me sick.Perfumes or products. I have to use unscented: soap, shampoo, clothes detergent, dish detergent, all cleaning products (thank god for vinegar), kitty litter (not for me! for Barney)... anything in my house or in my car has to be unscented but not unscented with sprays. Makeup has too much scent for me to use too. Ooooh all those damn scented candles begone!Real  unscented.

I'm also a fan of light, single-flower scents from Bath & Body Works.  Someone gave me a gift card for Christmas and they were having a clearance sale, so boy, did I stock up! :)   I also hate when someone's cologne arrives ten seconds before they do. 

For "good", though, I have a bottle of Sarah Jessica Parker's "Lovely".  That stuff is awesome, men are always complimenting me on it, and I only spritz on a tiny bit.  Must be one of those that blends well with my  body chemistry.

I just snorted coffee up my nose from "get ready boys the bitch is here! " LOL

I am very scent sensitive. I've been known to switch tables in a restaurant because of overbearing scents on other patrons. I cannot even walk near a Bath and Body or Victoria's Secrets in a mall, without getting conjested and a sick headache. I also hate air fresheners and scented candles in the home.

Clean, that is the smell for me.

I agree with the overpowering use of the manufactured scent, the assault of which often makes me feel sick, one in particular, a repellant to me for sure is the one called 'Anais Anais,' that, I would move away from not towards, the first whiff, anethema to me.

But what is wrong with the natural scent, a scent designed by nature to illicit a favourable response in the moments of first attraction to a prospective mate? Do we in this modern society of manufactured odours, do more damage  to natural attraction by swamping the scent of secretion from ourselves from our primal past ?

I like scents that are natural in nature.  Very hard to come by at least the good ones.  Very few places sell them.

You should have said something.  The restaurant is a place where you should be able to enjoy yourself.

To me there is no scent as erotic and alluring as the natural scent of a woman. If perfume, etc., is to be used , on occasion, I prefer just the slightest "hint" of same. Yanno, the kind that makes you go..." is that my imagination or..."?

MLadyHathor, that was hilarious, and I agree!!

LaTigress,  my sister is much the same.  She can't go into one of those stores or she gets a migraine.

I tend to prefer subtle, mild scents, and nothing powdery.  I agree all our products are scented.  Scented shampoo and conditioner, scented hair styling products, scented bath soap, scented after bath lotion, scented deodorant, scented fabric softener on clothing, and then let's top it off with a good shot of perfume.  It's enough to kill the sinuses. 

I almost asked the woman to move.  But I was halfway through my lunch, comfortable where I was, and apparently chose to grumble about it instead!  [8D] 

Thanks for all the replies!  As for me, I very rarely wear perfumes.  I use a milkbath soap from Whole Foods and Aveda hair products.  I have a mildly scented lotion that I use and that's it.  Sometimes I'll dab Mr. Wonderful's cologne under my chin so I can smell him during the day.

As for scented semen?  I prefer semen to smell and taste like semen, not like a Bath & Body Works product.  [;)]

agreed...but nothing gets to me like the smell of those dried flowers in  a craft dept....[sm=tongue.gif]
