in the usa Poly is not a Morman because the head cherch in salt lake city hase publicly condimed itand would excomunicate any one that does but the movment is so any one can be a polygamaus with laws that protect those under 17.

I try not to complain about spelling, I certainly wouldn't win any prizes. But could you please take a moment or two to proofread your posts? Your spelling is so bad as to make reading your posts unpleasant.

The current fiasco is people abusing and corrupting something. It does not make that something bad, it makes the people bad. I do understand though that public opinion and ignorance will prevail via the political aristiocracy.

With the current fiasco in Texas it would seem unlikely that many senators or congessmen would be willing to vote for polygamy anytime soon.

IMO there are too many ways that our system is linked to monogamy.  For example if hubby dies and neither wife has worked do they both get a separate social security check or do they divide the one that one person would be entitled to?

And the demonization of the people through every government influenced media source has absolutely nothing to do with this...

Of course it does. When I say it is daytime outside, I should not have to mention that the earth has revolved so that the section I am on is facing the sun. Saying daytime should suffice. Get the point?

A couple of thoughts:

Given that SCOTUS has knocked down laws involving governments attempting to regulate private sexual conduct between consenting adults lately, I have a hard time believing that some of the current laws on the books are enforceable.  Of course, it takes time to fix all that garbage, but it doesn't mean that the laws will actually hold up; if precedent is to be believed, most won't.

Two, I don't see a push for polygamy laws finding success any time soon.  First, it's just not popular enough and the social connotations are negative.  Second, you can already have polyamorous relationships, so I think most places are disinclined to deal with the legal particulars of polygamy.  Third, there are enough problems with monogamous marriage from a legal perspective that it might need to be addressed first.

Uhh there are no laws in place to not allow people to have intimate relationships with multiple people at the same time.  There are laws about legally marrying more than one person at a time.

And, finally, for the last 30 years or so, there have been no laws preventing people from having sex with others of their own gender, from having relationships with them, even from loving them or living with them. So why do they want to get married?
My middle son, who is a very devout Catholic and considered the priesthood prayerfully until he slowly came to the decision that he had a true and deep calling to be a Daddy and therefore could not be a Father, feels that laws telling who can marry who are inherently very wrong.
In his words, marriage is a religious institution. Marriage is an agreement between humans, their God and their church. For Atheists, their God may be no God, but, as he said, that is their decision. Who to have officiate your wedding and where to hold it and rather to register it with a church are all personal decisions.
The government has no business doing anything but licensing civil unions - for anyone, strait, gay, poly, mono, whatever their religion, color or creed.
In the past 10 or 15 years, many, many strait, vanilla, monogamous UU members have married in their church and refused to marry civilly, as a protest to the fact that gays can not marry.
is there any better reason that polys can't marry?
