Someone said in another thread, it's the process of putting a contract together, where the value lies. It forces you to focus on your expectations, both sub and Dom alike. They may not be legally binding, nor do they garantee a relationship. They do however make you think about what you are truly looking for. A sub friend of mine entered into a contract with a local but relatively new Dom. They both appreciated what either had to offer, but they both new that neither of them was their perfect match. The contract allowed them to experience many things they would not likely have had a chance to experience otherwise. They parted friends and remain so. In the mean time, their search continues.

The slave contract is about as effective as a marriage license ..neither assure fideltity or permanenance

I for one enjoy them as it is more of a symbol, than a legally-binding document. Take Christianity for example, the Bible doesn't make people who go to church "legally" responsible, rather it is more of a symbol, a set of "guidelines" (as you will) that give some credence to the relationship. Granted, there is a chance of infidelity in any relationship, vanilla or otherwise. A contract, to me anyway, (in my limited experience to the lifestyle), offers a better understanding of what it may entail, being in a “committed” D/s relationship. To me, contracts are mainly for people new to the lifestyle—to jumpstart a D/s relationship while casting away most/all false preconceptions of what’s shown on TV or in porn. The rest, is a matter of faith and trust: trust that the Dom/Domme can recognize when they should let the submissive go if things aren’t working out. Subbies get a veto vote and an opinion too! i dont' know about contracts but i can't say too much because i've never signed one, and i'm not a slave, i'm submissive. i was talking to a dom here on cm a while back and he kept sending me contracts to read over and it started to seem too much like a job interview to me and it killed it dead on the spot for me with him. i think all relationships are so unique that a uniform contract that is put out for the masses is a bit much, but that's just me. if you could create one between the two of you that might be something different, but i dont' see what signing your name to a peice of paper is going to do for your desire to serve and be dedicated, if that isn't in your heart already then i dont' understand how pen and paper will change that.
