......but...they are STILL...for MOST of their trip...on a train....not on a road wasting fuel and polluting the air, and running people off the road ... so in reality it is a rail cargo...not a truck cargo. the same thing holds true now with containers. All the major truck companies like Schneider, hunt, US Express, etc., use rail for long distance work. :)  When I worked for Penn Central, that most illustrious of corporate failures....we did have one train we ran with the Santa Fe Railway....called SV-7, which ran truck trailers from Weehawken, NJ, on PC, to  Los Angleles, CA (Barstow) on the SantaFe, in 57 hours. That train averaged over 70 MPH even with fuel stops, in 1972. It was a fun train to come across if you were assigned it on the extra list. I had it once bewteen Selkirk, NY and Syracuse and it was a blast to run....set it in notch 8 and watch the world fly by at 79 MPH. They'd get everything out of our way, and at some terminals you did not stop to make a crew change. There was a long trackside platform and you'd slow to 3 mph....one crew would get off one side...another would stop on, on the other side....then off they'd go. Pretty neat stuff......and just to keep this all in D/s mode...we'd beat the pants off the best times a trucker could make by over 2 days:)

Status: offline 		Just as a side-update -- I drove past or near 3 motorcycles on the tollway this weekend. One was a crotch rocket going the other way, but we were both in our side's respective fast lanes.......didn't hear a peep. The second was going the opposite way as well on my return trip, though we were farther apart. Again, not a peep.

The third and final one was today...going my way. I got right next to him and even cracked my window. Nothing. Not a sound. I guess "stock" pipes aren't that loud after all.

When I was living in Cali, I saw that ALL the time. Hadn't seen it for awhile until a bad traffic jam a week or so ago here.

You really have to be carefull and although my response is rather callous you are far too often perceived by the actions of other riders....So while many bikers get upset as to how people relate to them they probably only need to look at the actions of many of their fellow riders to see where the problems lie.

I agree with you whole heartedly domiguy about the actions of fellow riders that cause problems.
I'm also thankful that I live in a rural area and it is the perfect place to ride, respect the rights of others that I share the road with, taken a riders safety course, always wear a helmet, and  have stock pipes on my bike. There isn't much else I can do to project a positive image for others.

Here is a partial list of fellow cm members who ride, a whole lot but not all of them on Harleys. You might want to rethink the whole "dirt bag" comment. Most of these folks are well respected posters.

Couple of years ago some twit did this and hit The Man. Tried to sue claiming it was all his fault. Problem was, his own passenger wouldn't sign a deposition saying he was driving in the lane instead of between.

It was a joke.  It's not one I came up with.  It was told to me years ago by a co-worker when a biker convention was in town.  I'm sure he heard it from someone else.  I thought it was funny.  Why exactly should I rethink anything?  Because you put up a list of names of people "most of" whom are respected?  By the way if most of them are respected, than that implies some of them are not (your words).  So which ones are not respected, and which ones are?  I reckon you'd know since you seem to presume to tell me what I should think or rethink. 

Lighten up and get a sense of humor would be my advice for you.

If i came on here and slammed an entire ethnic group or an entire group of a particular type of folks, say male submissives, and members of said group got angry, would you tell them to get a sense of humor?
 
You slammed my brothers and sisters, my family (blood and otherwise) my Masters both current and long gone, my friends, and me.

I was watching Oz last night (HBO prison series so VERY graphic) and there was a committee mtg w/some of the inmates/admin personnel. One of the biker inmates mentioned that an older inmate just found out that his grandson had leukemia and the grandson's dying wish was to go to Disneyworld but they didn't have the $3k to send him. The biker suggested that instead of everyone spending their $$ on "shit", they could donate it toward this fund. He said that his biker buddies had raised thousands of $$'s for "Ronald McDonald House"..............................

How do I know I'm addicted to CM? Because I immediately thought of this thread!

I'm not even going to try to touch the "loud pipes" issue. There are lots of things in this world that I hear that bother my serenity. The neighbors dog barking, their kids screaming, the abusive pricks that call their wives all sorts of obscenities, the guy next door that has lawn tractor races in his backyard......get over it.

I will try to touch on the helmet thing though. There are a lot of statistics out there that are really hard to sort through. We all hear that motorcycle fatalities are up in states that don't have helmet laws. Well they are up in states that have them too. So are the numbers of riders....drastically. When we read statistics, in order to get an accurate picture you have to look at the whole picture. There is evidence that helmets reduce fatality. There is also evidence that helmets increase debilitating neck injury (of the paralyzing kind). There is also evidence that crash rates are lower in states that have no helmet laws because helmets DO limit vision and hearing and NOT wearing one allows you to be more aware of what is going on around you. But the point of the helmet debate goes far beyond injury and accident statistics. It is about government MANDATING. It is about government taking away your ability to decide what is right for you. Do you realize just how many helmet wearing motorcyclists....and hell....even NON motorcyclists fight for the repeal of helmet laws? Maybe when the government decides that everyone will have to wear a helmet while driving their car it will become clearer to those who can't understand it now? Maybe then they will understand how important being able to see and hear the cars in your periphery is? Another popular biker saying...."If I have to explain it to you, you probably wouldn't understand".

Again, it was a joke.  I assume you're an adult, so stop acting like you're a victim.  You're being ridiculous.  I didnt "slam" anyone.  I made a joke that you didn't like based on a stereotypical image of the dirty, greasy headed biker.

I wouldn't care.  I don't get upset about what people say on an internet message board.  You'll be hard pressed to find anything that offends me.  I am not a member of any group.  I don't define myself by my sexuality alone, so slam away at male subbies all you want.  You're not going to hurt my feelings.

Or as i previously suggested has a rather bad case of Harley envy.
