i agree, foreign aid to the US government is nothing but self serving in its purposes, but it does happen all the same.  if i had my druthers i'd say stop it all together.  we could more effectively use the money here in the US for infrastructure and i think healthcare could be paid for ten times over.

I have a feeling we'd almost have to bankrupt ourselves before others saw us as giving "enough".

No just give in accordance with your GDP. That way the hit is equal to all.

And haven't we forgiven some debt? I think Bono talked us into it?

Ahh celebrities saving the world by telling the rest of us what to give. There was a programme I watched recently where a bunch of white people went to Africa to build a water system. Then one of them did a feature on the current water from the local well which was the same colour as the soil. Then he said "We as visitors can't drink this water because our immune system has not been built up the same way as that of the local people has."

I don't really know what case he was making for fixing the water system if the locals were immune to the ill effects of it anyway? Further more he could have tested his theory by drinking the water so that the diarrhoea wasn't just coming out of his mouth. He also tried to carry water back from the well not only proving he had weak arms but also weak legs. It was funny because being the gentleman he was trying to help the woman out but she was far stronger than him due to the fact carrying water back from the well was no weekend experience daytrip.

Nothing is ever equal. America toted the load for decades when it came to defense for many, many people. Some would argue we still are. So, maybe it kinda balances out?

I bet he didn't challenge the woman to an arm-wrestling contest, did he?

We only finished paying our debt for WW2 recently, god only knows what the cold war cost us but it wasn't only our ideals behind it. I know what you mean though the international community wants a police man but moans whenever they do something.

An interesting thing I heard recently not sure where is that the IMF want Europe to give up some of its seats to streamline the voting process. I'm not sure that is what the US wants; at the moment we are fragmented but with one voice we would hold the sway of power in the IMF with the additional bonus of that clause about the IMF having to be located where the majority vote is.

IMF = Impossible mission force. Good name.

3 billion can buy you a war? If the US had decided to invade Zimbabwe and remove Mugabe, it would have cost under 500 million for sure....

Sorry but you gave the impression the USA always foots the bill for things?

Laughable.

i'm sorry i gave that impression, i just tire of people complaining about the US when they do fund so many things and give so much foreign aid.  that wasn't my point in my original comment though.

That foreign "aid" isn't a gift, it's a purchase; bribe money to buy UN votes and other forms of international control.

How far would it go in supplying some form of universal health care?

Now, if I personally had 3T, I'd buy the Dallas Cowboys, some strippers, and a penthouse suite in Manhattan. And an electric Corvette, maybe.

Finally, a sensible response from someone, on an important issue.
