Status: offline 		Hard to believe I get a few surprised faces when I say I want to use my bike, moved any errands I could closer.

Yet- people switching to peanut butter and jelly.  One grocery chain profit down 32%.  hmm.   IMO  the spike in energy costs are here for the long haul.  it is not a fad.

this will render gas guzzler cars worthless.

we complain about the price of  a gallon of gas and yet, many of us have a near daily Starbucks habit where we happily plunk down $3.50 (or more ) for our beverage du jour...which is how many ounces?

The sale of gas guzzlers has not declined... .

Ack, i'd be ruined! They had a severe drought in Georgia this year and asked everyone to conserve water... they did, so now the water utility is asking for a "conservation tax" to make up for the loss of revenue... The consumer can't win for losing.

Cheer up, though... if gas is $7/gallon, milk will also be $7/gallon, a loaf of bread will be $5... and you could be making as much as 20% more than you do now! That's what happens when the .gov addresses an economic crisis by printing more dough.

PaHunk, I doubt it, the economy will crash long before $7 per gallon gasoline.
I bet it crashes before we hit $4 a gallon.
I was out last night and it was eerily quiet for a sat night.
If people aren't out then they're not spending money are they?
George Herbert Hoover Bush needs to step in and do something but of course he won't as he's bought and paid for.
All the govt. has to do is ration gasoline and then you'll hear from the oil companies; "whoa, whoa! There's plenty of gasoline! You don't have to ration it!"

What earthly reason would anyone go to LV for except to be a tourist? Orlando? Branson, MO? The Highlands of NC? The wine country of Napa & Sonoma?

Look at the big convention cities. Atlanta. Chicago. San Diego.

Most of Hawaii is dependent upon tourism. Much of Alaska.

Watch for business travel to decline, and with it, declines in hotel occupancy, rental car fleet utilixation rates, average cover and gross sales for restaurants. And all those people spend their money on clothes, and dining out, and cable TV, and so on.

This depression is going to make the 30s look like a non-event. The Bush regime has completely fucked this country. Enjoy your rebates.

Status: offline 		News flash...given the extraordinary push for fuel alternatives the price of gas will start to go down by the late fall. There will the traditional spike this summer...we'll $4/gal in gas and the economy will survive...barely.

As much as we're all feeling the crunch it's not as bad as we like to compare it to. The rules of supply and demand. The supply is the same around the world...the balance of the supply is not. As the growth of gasoline alternatives grows and the consumtion of gasoline alternatives grows the demand for gasoline itself will deminsh...which measn the price will go down. Most states east of the Mississippi will be adding 15% ethonal (sp) into their gasoline by this time next year. And currently in IN there's research into the "oragnic" production of ethonal. (Through organisms that consume natural waste and piss ethonal.)

an E85 converter on a vehichle costs around $800. The average consumer recoups the cost within a year of purchase. As opposed to the almost 10 year recoup of a hybrid.

NEWS FLASH: America has figured out we need new energy sources and fast. And we're working on fixing the problem.

Bush didn't help, but every President going back to Jimmy Carter shares blame. When free trade agreements started getting signed in the 1990s....things really took a downturn. Look at the statistics. Mexico and China are the ones who sucked the wealth right out of this country's middle class thanks to agreements like NAFTA.

Actually, it has...by over 27% in the last 6 months.

Thank goodness....we're starting to live according to a global (oil) pricing structure.

In 3 years we'll show those pricks what we can do...in the meantime, China and others will increase their demands on the global oil market by a factor of 2...which means....

$7.00 a gallon in 4 years.

Status: offline 		Most other countries are paying considerably more for gas than   the US and have been for years

In Canada many places are already over $5.00 a US gallon, I just filled up 2 vehicles today having to pay $1.20 a liter which converts to  $4.54 US gal, 
Where my dad's club cottage is at in  Elk Lake, Ontario they are reporting the gas price for today at $1.349 a liter = $5.11
in BC  highest reported price is $1.429 = $5.41 there are no reported prices listed on gasbuddy  for the territories here but I expect there the prices are over $6 using Alaska as a comparison

Taking a look at gasbuddy.com  the US highest mainland prices are still better than most of canada's lowest prices  for gas.

US is still far below the global price structure. here is prices from 2005  europe has soared like crazy this year as well ... they are likely paying  $8 a gallon in UK, Amsterdam, belgium etc  http://money.cnn.com/pf/features/lists/global_gasprices/

Here is an article for 2006 in the UK   where they are looking at paying $6.88 US for gas then

Now to really make things fun ...when I went on vacation to Florida 30 years  ago the price of gas in the southern US was 37 cents a gallon ,  My wages if I had been still doing similiar work then as  now did not increase anywhere near  the same pace so one way or another we do adjust and climatize to the increase in prices and it does not mean we necessarily use less as a result, we may for the short term  as a knee jerk reaction but we go back to using it again and then add more creative ways to use  for example  gas powered devices to make our lives simpler or for recreation eg boats, all terrian vehicles, snow mobiles, jet skis, gas powered  push or riding mowers, snow blowers,  lawntrimmers, hedge trimmers, gas powered pressure washers , take airplanes which go through phenomenal  amounts of fuel, so despite gas prices  increasing faster than wages over the long term we  are consuming more on average.  We in NA have been spoiled with lower than global prices and we have become wasteful of it.  Other problem most of  Canada and the US do not have the population densities to support mass transit, leaving home and work/shopping not linked by a transit system which forces many of us to use cars inorder to get from point A to B with distances often too great for even bicycle travel.
