So really guys what do you think when someone asks for Profile "HELP"? I ask this because the same advice is given time and time again yet people keep asking.

What are your thoughts?

There's lots of people out there who are lacking in imagination & self confidence, so therefore feel the need to leach others for help?

Edited to add: i am digging the "guy trying to make a more convincing girl profile" option though..

Sometimes people just need an unbiased outside opinion because the reality is sometimes things don't come across how we mean them to or want them too.

While redundancy becomes tiresome, I don't think there is anything wrong with asking a geniunely good question pertaining to the content of one's profile.

Well there are two schools of thought on creating a profile:

1) You are writing an advert to draw people to you.
2) You are giving an honest impression of yourself.

Not sure that being a good profile writer is a quality I'd like to advertise.

Especially on the Mistress board, I think the person is lazy, advertising themself without wanting to write a profile or an attention whore.  I get impatient because, as you noted, the advice is consistent.  I avoid those threads -- if the person is sincere, they don't need my cynicism.  (smiling)

I see it as someone who needs advice because their current profile is failing and they want it to do better.Sometimes they don't understand the purpose of a profile, or they can really understand and just be an attention whore. There are those that want to appear totally unlike what they really are such as gender lying or seeking business.Or jackasses who push their views on others. A well written profile catches my mind much faster than a crappy one, I like reading literate people who have enough pride or self-respect to understand that it is a written snapshot of who they are. That isn't easy for everyone to do, I think the art of writing has fallen especially with those that communicate using netspeak. I'm always willing to help but it does bother me when someone asks for help but refuses to consider the help given.

Whenever I rewrite my resume, I give it to colleagues for vetting. Especially if it has not been getting me the results I want. I would think that someone asking for advice is doing the right thing by putting the question out to his/her target audience- kinda like a focus group.

But then, Master always says I am too kind about giving everybody the benefit of the doubt when it comes to motivations. I like to think the best of people and leave the cynicism to Him.

Interesting that everyone is saying Nice things but the quick vote says that they are just Attention Whores.

The fact that someone asked three weeks ago doesn't mean the threads still visible. Plus profiles really need to be read to be tweaked. Look at Olaf's, he got several comments about the photo cutting off the top of his head. I think that's the first time I've ever seen that so it wouldn't be in a general "how to write the perfect profile" thread.

However I do think it would be helpful if in Introduce Yourself there were links to some of these types of newbie questions. But that takes a mod to sticker a thread.

Nine people have made a comment and nine people have not used the 'attention seeking option' the ones that have chose it don't feel the need to justify their choice I suppose.

I might view the requests differently depending on where they are posted. A submisive posting in ASk a Mistress for help writing comes off as looking for attention and hits. Posting in aska  submissive forum is a bit less attention-whorinsh since those are not the ones you are marketing yourself to. And, posting it in general discusion can go either way.

My 2 cents

I've always considered it a "hey look at me" sort of thing.  Their personal way of introducing themselves and it doesn't strike me as positive.

What gets me is the ones who ask for help, then refuse to change anything and get defensive and abusive.  It is certainly not all of them, because I have seen ones who did edit, change wording, checked spelling.  The threads change so quickly, that a new person to CM may not know that the exact same question has been raised just a couple days before.  Many think that their problems are absolutly unique (and they are to a certain extent).

I would ask for help with my profile but I think it's fucking great as it is, to be honest.

Not to brag or anything but when I wrote it I had so much success with it from all kinds of weirdoes and they are fun.

My general advice is find a niche such as ElevatorDom.
