It depends on the skill of the reader. I can read cards to an extent...but I only get vague information. My best friend however is excellent and can you tell you things that would make a believer out of you in a heart beat.

Its not the cards that tells the future. The cards are just a medium for the divinator to clarify what he sees about the future.

You also have to remember that the future is uncertain, so when you're cards are read you are only seeing the most likely future at this point. It could still change.

I dunno what kind of cards you mean, but I read tarot both for myself and others. I don't use it as a means of divination so much as a means of focus--as in "here's what's going on in my life, give me some insight"

I find that reading for myself I have very good luck, and those who I've read for tell me that the readings are quite often pretty dang insightful.

I tihnk the key is to go in with an open mind and to be aware that you arent' telling the future, just getting some ideas on where you're going and how you can best get there.

i'm sorry i wasn't terribly clear. Yes, tarot cards, palm reading, etc. Something that, until recently, i've not really thought about.

Libby's pretty good with the Tarot. We managed to weave Tarot into an interesting subplot in Murder at Roissy.

For me, I prefer reading entrails. [smiling in an evil fashion and running finger over the edge of a sharp knife] Wanna know YOUR future?

Sure several times. My experiences all depended on who I had read my cards. The lady that used to read them in California was accurate to the point of being scary. I haven't found any one that matches her or even comes close since. Good luck.

And I am the direct opposite of this. I can read for others, but I cannot see for Myself, at all. Perhaps I am too close to the situations. *S*
And yes, I refer to it, always, as Tarot Guidance. The cards simply ground Me and allow Me to see a story and a path.
I agree that keeping an open mind will garner you the best experience.

thank Yyou Aall. I met with the 'spirtual advisor' last evening.. and although she wasn't 100% on base, some was very disconcerting as to what events she did know, just from my 'energy'... (didn't even bring out cards as a matter of fact). Now i'm much more interested in having my cards read. I am just not sure who to believe is a scam artist and who is not.

p.s. my instincts are far from correct.

Yes, I have... many times. I moved on to get a deck of my own, and after that several more. I'm now fairly proficient, and have found that receiving and giving a reading can be a profoundly deep, helpful and often spiritual experience if done with an open mind.

That's really interesting. My sucess depends a LOT on the deck I'm using.

I have one deck I've had for a long time, that's been through a lot...heck, I've had it since right when I began practicing witchcraft. I have scary sucess with it. I have another deck that I think is absolutely beautiful (The Aurthurian Legend Deck) that I've had for a couple years that I can't even begin to read with.

it's interesting to me.

The only time I ever saw a trustworthy chiromancy was when I was about 12 : A kid of my age offered to read another's future with the lines of the hand. He drew the lines of the hands with a felt-tip pen, then said : "I can see that... you're going to wash your hands".

Clever. Reminds me of that line from Pulp Fiction: "It's your future: I see...a cab ride."

back in the early 90's or really late 80's, i had my a reading by Jean Dixon (i believe was her name, she was quite popular back then) She told me i'd be a well known fashion designer. The funny thing is that during that time, being a teenager, i had drawers and drawers filled with fashion sketches i would always do, it was my dream to become a fashion designer....i was pretty shocked when she predicted that to me - however, needless to say, i am not a well known fashion designer! not even an unknown one!! lol

I too have found that what deck I use really influences my readings. I had great luck with "the lovers tarot" and also with the celtic dragon tarot (which is just SUCH a beautiful deck.)

Okay, anyone who seriously believes in this stuff, raise your hand...

Theres a guy named James Randi that will give you 1 million dollars to prove you can tell peoples futures...

Any of you "psychics" who want to take the challenge can find out the details here.

I for one am looking forward to hearing how you plan to spend your newly aquired wealth... ROFLMAO!

Its not about "telling the future". Its about gaining insight into your present situation in order to make an educated guess at what the future MAY hold.

Its not all "magical" and "mystic."

When I look at the cards, they present ideas to me that help me clarify my feelings about a given situation.

That said, I have a friend who is quite psychic (with or without cards.) He can tell you "You'll meet a blue eyed girl named jennifer tuesday afternoon at 2:30pm in the grocey store. She's an aquarius who listens to polka music" or some such. The thing is, NO psychic can just tell you the future about any given subject at the drop of a hat. Most psychics work in terms of "visions", unexplained, random glimpses of the futures.

I believe very strongly, because I've seen things which, to me, are proof.

Okay, fine. All you have to do is tell them what you do. You can even help set up the test. All they do is help design the control protocal to do it as a scientificly relevant test.

All you have to do is tell them what your psychic ability is, then prove it. Since what you're saying amounts to the same thing as looking at baseball cards to guess what someones batting average may be next year, maybe you should send your friend.

He should do it for science... but theres also a million bucks to consider. He might share some of that with you when he wins it.
