Oh Man! This is the most horrible/wonderful sad song I have ever heard for relationship endings

I Can't Make You Love Me
by: Bonnie Riatt

Turn down the lights, turn down the bed
Turn down these voices inside my head
Lay down with me, tell me no lies
Just hold me close, dont patronize - dont patronize me

Chorus: cause I cant make you love me if you dont
You cant make your heart feel something it wont
Here in the dark, in these lonely hours
I will lay down my heart and Ill feel the power
But you wont, no you wont
cause I cant make you love me, if you dont

Ill close my eyes, then I wont see
The love you dont feel when youre holding me
Morning will come and Ill do whats right
Just give me till then to give up this fight
And I will give up this fight
Chorus: cause I cant make you love me if you dont
You cant make your heart feel something it wont
Here in the dark, in these lonely hours
I will lay down my heart and Ill feel the power
But you wont, no you wont
cause I cant make you love me, if you dont

OP, you say you enjoy Christian music. I'd suggest you listen to some - any. It will put you in a better frame of mind and redirect your thoughts away from what was not to be towards what can be.

And then go back to the other side and start searching again.

Failing that, there's the one called "You Always Hurt the One You Love" - but I don't remember who sang it, just watching Scott Hamilton skate to it.

pip, praying that you pull out of your sadness

I'd personally like to listen to something like Say Anything's "Little Girls" if I was in your situation...

"I kill, kill, kill little girls.
I kill, kill, kill little girls.
It's such a thrill, thrill, thrill to the world
when I kill, kill, kill little girls."

but then again, I'm in the camp of "don't get sad, get angry and make art about it!"

Two of my favorites are from the Eric Clapton CD "Pilgrim". The songs are "Broken Hearted" and "River of Tears"...

The Who - Love Reign O'er Me - Live Version: http://bebo.com/watch/5017797648
(Pete's theme) Only love
Can make it rain
The way the beach is kissed by the sea
Only love
Can make it rain
Like the sweat of lovers
Laying in the fields.

Love, Reign o'er me
Love, Reign o'er me, rain on me

Only love
Can bring the rain
That makes you yearn to the sky
Only love
Can bring the rain
That falls like tears from on high

Love Reign O'er me

On the dry and dusty road
The nights we spend apart alone
I need to get back home to cool cool rain
I can't sleep and I lay and I think
The night is hot and black as ink
Oh God, I need a drink of cool cool rain

Great suggestions. I'm starting to feel better. 18 hours of the Last Unicorn and others. Dozens of "This is where the cowboy rides away" and Willie and Waylon. A little POISON "every rose has it's thorn" in memory of my truest LOVE ever. I think I'm gonna live. LOL

Thanks
PS - Has anyone tried that heartbroke post and did it work? LOL

I've been told by friends that they can tell the kind of mood I'm in by the music I listen to.
Townes Van Zandt....."Highway Kind" and "To Live is to Fly"......beautiful/sad/gut-wretching music to commit suicide to!!!!!!
Also....Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt".....good lord, was that song written for that man? I wonder if Trent Reznor knew anything about Johnny Cash's life before writing it.
"The Last Unicorn" is one of my all-time favorite movies.
Good luck.

I'd personally dive into the oldies but goodies - Tamla Motown.. the Four Tops, Jimmy Ruffin, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross, and if you dig deep enough you should be able to come across a few timeless tunes which capture what it is you're feeling.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2kxlZDOHeQ

Now if there's a smile on my face
It's only there trying to fool the public
But when it comes to fooling you
Now honey that's quite a different subject
Don't let my glad expression
Give you the wrong impression
Really I'm sad, sadder than sad
You're gone and I'm hurting so bad
Like a clown I pretend to be glad
Now there's some sad things known to man
But ain't too much sadder than
The tears of a clown
When there's no one around

Now if I appear to be carefree
It's only to camouflage my sadness
In order to shield my pride I'll try
To cover this hurt with a show of gladness
But don't don't let my show convince you
That I've been happy since you
Decided to go
I need you so
I'm hurt and I want you to know
But for others I'll put on a show
Now there's some sad things known to man
But there ain't too much sadder than
The tears of a clown
When there's no one around

Just like Pagliacci did
I try to keep my sadness hid
Smiling in the public eye
But in my lonely room I cry
The tears of a clown
When there's no one around..

Smokey Robinson

Trust me, I have a whole iTunes playlist just for this. My Top Three:

"I Will Always Love You" Dolly Parton & Vince Gill
"Unchained Melody" Righteous Brothers
"My Heart Will Go On" Celine Dion

If you're a real Tolkien addict and can place the music to the visual, "Breaking of the Fellowship" from the first movie can really bring on the water works and wallowing.

When grief turns to anger over a breakup there are few things more satisfying for me than screaming along to Linkin Park's "You tried to take the best of me... GO AWAY!!!" or Incubus' "Nice to know you... GOODBYE!!".  I can't even count how many times I sang "You Oughtta Know" by Alannis Morrisette when my ex husband left (even did it a few times in karaoke to rousing applause).

However, for a sad, can't believe she left me, cry in your beer, pity party, I highly recommend this gem from my favorite all time band, The Beatles:

For No One

Your day breaks, your mind aches
You find that all the words of kindness linger on
When she no longer needs you

She wakes up, she makes up
She takes her time and doesn't feel she has to hurry
She no longer needs you

And in her eyes you see nothing
No sign of love behind the tears
Cried for no one
A love that should have lasted years

You want her, you need her
And yet you don't believe her when she said her love is dead
You think she needs you

And in her eyes you see nothing
No sign of love behind the tears
Cried for no one
A love that should have lasted years

You stay home, she goes out
She says that long ago she knew someone but now he's gone
She doesn't need him

Your day breaks, your mind aches
There will be time when all the things she said will fill your head
You won't forget her

And in her eyes you see nothing
No sign of love behind the tears
Cried for no one
A love that should have lasted years

It really beats just sitting around listening to music...
