Because when they finally find what they think they've been looking for all their lives, it's a pretty intense feeling.  It makes their previous relationships look like dog shit by comparison.

Most short-term d/s things fall apart within six months.  That's also just about when infatuation wears off.  People really need to wait a few months before making any long-term decisions.

We see it time and again. The rush to sex and collars, the drama of hooking up and breaking up. And it usually doesn't take too long. It's like fast food.

I've seen it in local real life communities too-gets so they can't go anywhere without running across an ex. Why do you think people are so hasty and heedless in this arena?

Nodding.........and see if they actually have a foundation besides thrills to build anything on. I tend to be the fuddy duddy that looks at boring things like-complimentary skills, goals etc......not very exciting, but very needful.

It makes me wonder why so few on here seem to bring more than thier elbows to put on the table. Everything in profiles seems to be subbie this and master that-or boasting about sex.

Whatever happened to the vanilla stuff-like paying your bills-and having some stability?

No, life is not a hamburger but its a cucumber. Some have it and it feels fresh and tasty and others have it and it hurts as hell!!

This is kinda what I am thinking. Being one of those newbies... Sometimes it feels like I might as well be 13 and He my first boyfriend for as much as I know how to deal with the rush of feelings that this type of relationship brings. He is my first D/s relationship, but he was not the one who introduced me to the concept. After that initial introductory encounter- I felt like the book i read my daughter yesterday: "Are you my mother?", except it was "are you my master".  This was what had been missing in all my other relationships and the hunger for it was just completely overwhelming.

Life is not a hamburger... but right then I was so damn hungry i wouldnt have known the difference between chopped meat and steak.

I did jump too quickly, but I dont regret it. I tried to use whatever scraps of common sense were left functioning to choose my Sir. But it really was shear luck that he did not turn out to be an abusive troll. After 4 months I cant really say "everything's working out fine" because it simply hasn't stood to the test of time yet. We had one serious issue (on which he has completely stuck to his word on the resolution of it!), but other than that... so far so good?

What seems to be the problem :-) ? And can we be of any assistance :-) ?

awakenednj -> RE: Life is not a hamburger. (5/3/2008 6:39:19 AM)

KittinSol - If ya meant me, everybody already was! It was a coupla weeks ago, and I posted in complete panic on the ask a Master section for help... I was damn near ready to back out at that point, but I am glad I didnt. But i am also glad the whole spat happened cause i trust him more now that I've seen him deal with an issue.. ya know?

If ya didnt mean me... sorry!

Well, what I said doesn't mean that such feelings aren't real.  It just means that you have to wait a little while before you're in the right frame of mind to make long-term decisions.  I hope it works out for you and your master.

Real relationships are based on emotion, compatability, and chemistry.  Just because he inspires you to get on your knees is no indication of whether you'll be able to stomach the sound of his voice or the look of his face in a month.

Relationships take time, and fucking the first time you meet someone generally spells disaster for a long-term relationship, whether you're vanilla or not.
