Status: offline 		a while ago there was a discussion on the "ask a sub" board about different pain sensations and what was preferred and why (stingy v thudy et al).

I'm just wondering what makes a D-type prefer one impliment to another-- is it the sounds the s-type makes, the marks it leaves, the proximity that you and your partner are in while administering it (for example I prefer his hand or short objects because he usually puts me over his knee for those).  Is there a feel with a certian tool that just gives you the warm fuzzies?  Is it all of the above or other variebles that I haven't thought of?

I pick them for the reaction they can get from the sub, be it pleasure or pain...or both. I pick them for how they feel in my hands. I pick them for they make me feel. he even went as far as converting an old belt of his (my favorite) into a hand-held tawse, instead of just throwing it away...

Status: offline 		That is an interesting question. I guess for me it is like choosing what music to listen to. Sometimes I want to listen to The Beatles, sometimes some Blues, sometimes something harder. Sometimes a thuddy flogger seems to be right, and then a slapper will feel right as a follow up. It is a decision that I make at the moment. My slave screams with all the implements, so that isn't part of the equation.

Status: offline 		I like certain things based on the results desired. A singletail is an incredible spiritual tool, as is a flogger. piercing is ritualistic and decorative. Nothing beats a disposable scalpel for cutting, blood and feeding.

I do have a few things I like for other reasons: wooden spoon 'cause most people hate it...a cedar paddle that's made from the siding of a 100 year old church. Stuff like that.

oh, I like the symbolism in the paddle.

When I was a kid my grandmother lived with us and after being on the recieving end of a yard stick several times with little results besides the yardstick getting broken and my laughter, my father produced this wicked paddle with holes in it.  I've been thinking that I'd like to find that paddle.

Status: offline 		I am a switch and when I am on the giving end of the tools. I use whatever I want to. Yes there is consideration of what the sub will like and how they respond to it, what I can use within their limits etc. But it ultimatly boils down to whatever the hell I want to do at that given time. I find my preferred instrument is different for every submissive I have played with. I am fond of the riding crop though. The sound of the noises from the toy hitting flesh and the submissives response to that. The  verbal and nonverbal cues I get from the person enduring the pain, and of course my ultimate pleasure in enjoying the scene unfold.

It's all about getting the response I desire!... as a Sadist... usually it to cause them pain... you like stingy... I just might have a preference to thuddy.  Of course... one of my favorite things is to take what you like... and make you dread it in the scene..... so that stingy think you like... you going be hating it when I am done.

However, if it an implement that doesn't feel comfortable in my hand, well then it will not be used much, regardless of the reaction.

example: my kevlar paddle, it looks like the bottom of a shoe, and has a wide handle. (obviously made for a much much bigger hand.)

With my favorite toy, a handmade rope flogger, it's those two attributes plus the fact that I can whip my submissive across virtually any part of her body with it. I've used it on her back, bottom, thighs, pussy, breasts and feet. She loved all the sensations, and I loved giving them to her. One other thing: I can give her many, many strokes and still leave only a few marks and bruises.
