Over time I've learned to still use my slave or a trainee when I'm having those off times. Because it isn't just about sex or SM or a scene, my sub or slave can do some useful mundane things for me at those times so I can focus on me. Sometimes what I needed to do is scene, to reclaim in a very direct and immediate way all of my power and authority to just make things go as I want. Of course I'm primarily talking about the 24/7 live-in dynamic so I have different possibilities and different responsibilities than if someone was coming by for a few hours a day or a week.
I'll also point out that you should consider how you'd feel and react if the situation was reversed. Would you still expect him to come over and spend time with you?
