All I have to do to get disgusted with politics these days is just turn on the TV.

There's your trouble.

ahh.. you are right there.  We elect them.  We promote them.  We continue to buy the BS that party lines lay out for us to walk on.  As long as we accept the crap and let the rich call the shots, we get what we pay for.

Dems, Repubs, Libs, don't you people get it that it doesn't matter?  The only thing that matters is MONEYand POWER.  How to get it, how to keep it, how to make sure you have more than your neighbor, how to flaunt it, use it, and make more.  Dirty tricks are not assigned to one party.  Dirty tricks are designed to get people to join in their camp and make them see things their way.  Why?  Because they want money and power.  Guess who doesn't matter here?  We the people.
Kyst

Good post.....until you excused "the people".....

'They' are going to do whatever it takes to garner and keep power...but first they are going to try the easy way...

Mudslinging and fearmongering have proven so remarkably successful at getting us the government we deserve, that there is little need for any other approach.

"There you go again", Firm, ( in the immortal words of Ronnie Reagan).

Everyone knows that politics is a dirty game played by both sides, thank you very much. What seems to work so well, in this country, whose citizenry is so easily manipulated, is to toss out inflammatory, red herring , comments and issues, in order to distract and exhuast the limited attention span of the average voter.

How's that KY holding out ?

Some points, cjan.

As some posters have said, dirty tricks seem to be a part of politics, and I don't expect that to change.  Neither do I approve of them, but they seem to be an unalterable part the US political landscape.

The reason that I posted this thread (and will continue to update it) is that there is a certain segment of the population - and posters here - who seem to think that "their party" doesn't stink.  To me, this seems especially true of the ones who support Democrats, and even more so of those who support Obama.

Currently, I've not made a final decision about who I will vote for is this election.  I don't particularly like any of the choices or probable choices, but I do have some leading thoughts.

In particular, I don't like the Obama's campaign's messianic, non-specific type of campaign.  It smacks of hypocrisy and manipulation.

So the reason for this thread is:

1. To chronicle all three candidates "dirty tricks" as they are exposed.
2. To specifically chronicle the Obama's campaign's "dirty tricks",
3. To specifically chronicle Democrats "dirty tricks".

So here is the next one, apparently from the Obama campaign against Clinton:

The Hillary Clinton campaign has run on a platform of 90’s nostalgia, but it won’t like this flashback to 1992. A video making the rounds today shows James Carville, George Stephanopolous, and Mickey Kantor conferring over polling results for Indiana. Kantor, who would become a member of Bill Clinton’s Cabinet and an adviser to Hillary now, offers a pungent view of Indiana voters that gives an idea of the contempt in which Democrats hold white, working-class Americans:

Kantor: Wait, wait, look at Indiania — 42-40. It doesn’t matter if we win. Those people are shit. Oh, excuse me … How would you like to be a worthless white nigger?
...

What makes this worse is that Kantor gives that creepy, sotto voce whisper while saying this, knowing how bad it sounds but obviously unable to stop himself from saying it. Neither Carville nor Stephanopolous challenge Kantor, at least not in this clip. All three appear to agree that Indiana voters are worthless for Democrats even when they supported Clinton.

...

However, the disgust for the white working class comes through much more clearly in this video, and the fact that it comes from a former Clinton Cabinet official and current adviser makes it all the more compelling.

Indiana voters go to the polls in less than a week. Will they figure out which campaign despises them less?

The article has a lot more detail, as well as the video's of the altered and unaltered event.  Interesting reading.

All right ,all right.............Enough of this here bull shit.

At first, I took Firm`s word that this was Democrat generated.I won`t do that again.

How lame, to cloak his post with fake outrage, when it was Mat Drudge and others saying this.I think Firm knows that.

The information about it being quoted in a book was in the links I posted. That wasn't the point of my post.

quote:

There is a story by a guy who wrote a book about McCain, who claims that three reporters and two of McCain`s aids witnessed the words.

http://www.drudge.com/news/106692/author-mccain-called-wife-cunt-trollop

"A new book by Cliff Schechter has the inside scoop on John McCain. And if you want to know why John McCain was called "McNasty" in high school, read this.

At one point, Cindy playfully twirled McCain's hair and said, "You're getting a little thin up there." McCain's face reddened, and he responded, "At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you cunt." McCain's excuse was that it had been a long day. If elected president of the United States, McCain would have many long days.

This event was witnessed by 3 reporters and two aides of John McCain, Doug Cole and Wes Gullett"

Now for someone to spin this as a Democratic dirty trick, is beyond lying."Latest Democratic dirty trick",........my ass.

The way and phrasing of the question was intentionally inflammatory and intended to damage McCain politically.  If the real reason for the question was to determine the facts, then a phrasing such as this would have performed that function without being insulting:

"Senator McCain, it has been reported by Cliff Schechter that you used an expletive to describe your wife, to her face.  Can you tell us if his report is accurate, and if it is, how could you justify the American people voting for you in the election?"

How does this compare with right-wing dirty tricks, like claiming Mr Obama is a radical Muslim,or an America hater, etc? Those are well funded and well manned dirty tricks, that came from the cocksucker unit of the republican party.

This was a stupid guy asking a stupid question. The source of the question though, is from the right.

See Orion's comments above about your ideological thinking.

Excuse me Firm? Kantor disgusts you?  Really/ Well I am assuming you spread some of that moral outrage over  McBush's..oops McCain's racial comments then.
Almost as bad as the macacca bs. Yeah, compassionate conservatism, now that is an oxymoron for sure.

By KATIE HONG
SPECIAL TO THE POST-INTELLIGENCER

On his campaign bus recently, Sen. John McCain told reporters, "I hated the gooks. I will hate them as long as I live." Although McCain said he was referring only to his prison guards, there are many reasons why his use of the word "gook" is offensive and alarming.
It is offensive because by using a racial epithet that has historically been used to demean all Asians to describe his captors, McCain failed to make a distinction between his torturers and an entire racial group.
It is alarming because a major candidate for president publicly used a racial epithet, refused to apologize for doing so and remains a legitimate contender.

TheHeretic -> RE: Latest Democratic Dirty Tricks (5/3/2008 9:36:08 AM)

McCain is one of those rare people who gets a free pass on using racial epithets.  He can use whatever language he likes to describe the people who tortured him, exactly like an old friend of mine who has been using the n-word a lot more frequently since the evening he was shot in the face.

       That's my opinion anyway.

Aynne -> RE: Latest Democratic Dirty Tricks (5/3/2008 9:39:12 AM)

Really? Who is in charge of handing out the free passes, the KKK? Sweet.

Nice try though, but no free passes on hatred. None.

That's a pretty bold and sweeping statement.  What if they are talking about Bush?  Republicans?  Gun-totin rednecks?  Corporations?

A racial epithet is merely one form of such expression.  Who gets to decide which forms are/are not allowed?  MoveOn.Org?

Ad hominem racial slurs.  That is the context that I am referring to. Should have been more clear. McCain is running for Potus and I really think that he needs to do a little better than that. He won't, but he should.

Yes, both sides of the fence are held accountable for such ignorance.

From the article that you posted Firm. Not exactly you saying it, however I took the liberty of assuming you agreed with your posted article. It certainly is intended to show disgust with the comment, or am I reading something wrong?  So in all fairness, why is McCain not help to the same lever of accountability and then some? I mean this guy is hardly a public figure and it made you "disgusted" enough to drag it out, so does that extend across party lines? Is your issue with racial slurs bi-partisan?

Aynne, what we're they supposed to say out in the bush, "watch out fellas', here come the North Vietnamese Army Irregulars?
"Gook" means the people they were fighting.
I've never heard Chinese or Japs or Koreans refered to as "Gooks."
And I wonder what the Gooks called us?
Funny, you could blow them to pieces but you can't call them Gooks?
It had nothing to do with a person's "race" it was a designation for the enemy.
And which organisation gets to "designate" what words are "proper" to use?
This sounds like "Political Correctness" raising it's evil head again.

Level -> RE: Latest Democratic Dirty Tricks (5/3/2008 11:32:45 AM)

Popeye, that may have been the original meaning (I don't know), but it's went way beyond that. There are morons a-plenty that use "gook" to mock anyone even remotely resembling Asian descent.

I can't wait for the republicans to try smearing Obama for having black babies. After all, it worked for Bush against McCain in South Carolina primary years ago, so it is worth trotting out that tactic again!

Obama had black babies????!!!!

Wait'll that makes it in to the press...he'll be toast.

Level -> RE: Latest Democratic Dirty Tricks (5/3/2008 12:02:56 PM)

Do ya'll think Strom Thurmond's nuggets sucked up into his groin when they did that to McCain?
