Many of you out there in Collar me land attend these functions ,parties, theme parties like Alice in bondage land and alike .My question here is What makes it a great party one that you walk away from saying WOW when is the next one ?
If it the theme ?food ? energy ?music ?equipment ?people ?exclusive guest list ?Does cost play into it what you get for our money ?Please share your ideas and what made it awesome.How about putting some performances in the mix ? a demo or two ?Or a few stations to try new things for the newer people just getting started ?Perhaps a basic flogging station ,spanking station etc etc .

For me i think a big part of what makes a party great is the atmosphere. When things are too uptight or there's some kinda drama going on, things tend to go to down the drain. The experience of being in a social situation free of judgment and hostility is the best thing a host can give their guests in my opinion.
Of course, a little (or a lot ) of public play is always fun to watch and participate in, as well as being educational

For me, it's definitely the people. If I walk into a party and see ten people I know and love, it's going to be a fantastic night.

There is a vast difference between what makes a party great to ME and what would make a great party to appeal tto any given audience.

I like a bit of sensual fantasy with my play, especially when I am out at an event. Many people find what I like a pointless distraction. I like sex, for many it too is an unwanted distraction. I have floggers and flogging, again, I hear rumors it is a popular pastime.

You can't make everyone happy, some comprimises are more universal than others, if I do an event my way I know fewer people will attend. In SF, they do a male dominant/female submissive party where many of the submissives are there to serve whomever asks on some level. They started out heavy in protocol but as is usual in SF, the whiners complained that the party was universal enough...NO FUCKING SHIT. They want to go to YOUR special party but compain about the very things that make it special.

Okay, rant mode off.

Things that make universal parties work well. Clearly defined play spaces and well thought out ways to get to them as well as how to reserve spaces for use and some way of ensuring that scenes can be long enough but at the same time preventing someone from hogging a space or piece of equipment. Lighting that varies from bright for techinical play to dark for shyer or more quiet play.

While I am not fond of DMs there is a need for someone to monitor the goings on and to smooth out issues and or problems. Some planning to deal with common issues such as where to dress if you are switching from vanilla to fetish, parking, noise, etc.

Some things I like to do is drap gozzy material over lamps to provide more diffused and sensual lighting. Finger food placed in various places so that everyone doesn't stand around the buffet. It also encourages the feeding of each other which again can be sensual. Music is important, I love DeadCanDance, Enya, and even Gregorian Chants as mood music. I use those expanding shower curtain rods to place curtains in hallways to muffle sound and light, it also provides lots of nooks and crannies to provide privacy and yet doesn't restrict movement.

Part of the trick is to create a framework around which people can wrap their own fantasies/protocols/etc but isn't too restrictive and yet still have something of a cohesive theme so that the energy from everyones play enhances rather than detracts from others. Someone doing a sensual scene and onther doing an intense pain scene with Nine inch Nails isn't going to be as fun as a "Beat them black and blue" party with the point to play loud music and do pain play.

Thank to all thus far for the wonderful input . I have been to many a party and event through out my years , i have vended and worked the events too .I have even hosted a few and been a promoter .I say this not as a qualification nor boast just some background and understanding to what has been said with a nod and smile .
I hope to soon host yet another party , i may have a location , and some sort of theme seems also welcomed .Yet on the other hand i want it to also cartoonish , over the top turning to lame .I do kinda want it to be visual , high energy and most of all fun with no drama .I have seen some event have areas for viewing and conversation and i do so love that as not to interrupt the bdsm flow .I like the idea of some sort of DM but not intrusive just a caring watchful eye .Some like the music while you can never please everyone i would like the nights music to start out slow then ramp up adding to the energy .I also do not wish to place limits on what occurs with in legal realms , but i do wish to separate and designate areas for some types of play .Example i would like blood in one secured area ,a single tail area , a fire play area , maybe a puppy area , and pony play space , etc .

Parties where sexual contact is forbidden are a drag for me personally. I like small parties where everyone is comfortable enough to get involved in the scene and you can be as loud as you want without disturbing everyone. I don't mind the venue being someone's cramped living room because I'm not the type of person who needs four feet of personal space. I kind of like everyone all on top of each other.

I think the most important thing to have at a successful party is a few outgoing, positive, creative people to help everyone feel more comfortable and maybe get the play started.

If its a themed party then people dressing to the theme, decorations, music and food all fitting the theme.

June thanks so much and yes i agree and there shall be more recruited with similar devious and creative minds like my own

Willow > Yes that is the idea , If i have lets say a midsummers nights dream party sexy Pj's are bare min for entry ,elves and faeries ,mystical creatures also welcomed , just do not come with a t-shirt and jeans and tennis shoes with gym socks sayin "i'm here" . we have had ren faire parties , alice in kinky wonderland parties so theme parties are great , more so when the people that come dress for the party .I may just have to pull some prizes from out of my vending inventory for top 3 best dressed .Perhaps a raffle too .Must be present to win cuz i am so not mailing the stuff out lol .
