MissSCD -> Attention Nascar Fans: Rant or brag! (5/3/2008 8:45:51 PM)

Tonight's race at Richmond lead me to post this thread.   I am a Gordon fan. I like most all of the other drivers except Jimmie Johnson, and a few others.
I was pulling my heart out for Dale Junior to win.  When the 18 got into him, I was stunned.  Simply stunned.
Mark Martin did not pass the way the 18 passed the 88.
I guess I am really pissed at the 18.  And since he has a stupid brother, I hate him too.
I am proud of Junior.  He will win soon, but it was stunning.  What a pass for the lead, huh?

Regards, MissSCD

To be honest, when both the 18 and 88 went shooting off into turn 3 side-by-side, I figured there would be a one-car or perhaps two-car wreck. I've yet to see two cars, running as hard as they were, enter a corner in Richmond like that and see both come out.

During the post-race interview, Earnhardt had mentioned that Eury told him on the radio that the #18 got loose underneath him. The video playback shows that's what happened. Kyle stated he got loose; Dale stated he was cutting the corners tight. That's a recipe for a collision.

Mark races cleanly because he's not pushing himself or equipment over the edge with each turn of the wheel. Kyle's advantage in racing is that he can consistently race over the edge and get away with it. Mark's 50 and not looking to spend his last year or two hobbling around with crash-related injuries. Kyle, being 23, races like he's "young and dumb," as Darryl points out. There's a big difference between the motivations behind the way Mark drives vs. Kyle, so no, Kyle will not race as "cleanly" as Mark does (though, I do remember one race a couple of years back where Mark went over the edge, knocked a couple of people out of the way, on his way to a win at Charlotte; he can do it if he chooses).

In short, it was a racing accident. If the situation happened earlier in the race, both driver's would have given the other a bit more room. But, with three laps to go, it's balls-to-the-wall, short-track style racin' for the win, and the hefty six-figure purse.

And yes, I'm more of a Dale fan than Kyle's, but I can't say Kyle pushed the bounds of decency in this incident.

I have always pulled for Jeff Gordon.   I always watched him race Mark Martin.
When they were fighting for championships, Mark Martin is the one driver Jeff Gordon would not touch because Martin always raced everyone clean.
Kyle Bush is an accident waiting to happen.  Just wonder who will do it.

I agree that Kyle is a loose cannon. His trial by fire will come soon, though I don't think it can be orchestrated by anyone in the Hendrick stable. That would be too obvious. And I don't think it'll happen in a points race. The upcoming Challenge races, though, could be interesting. ;)

The more I think about tonight's race, the more I believe that incident was set up, whether planned or not, by Hamlin. When he stopped on the track to bring out the caution with only three laps to go, he gave his teammate, Kyle, the opportunity to race Dale. Without the caution, Dale continues building on his lead and goes to Victory Lane. Hamlin's caution was not for debris from a flat tire; he wasn't putting any down. He did have a flat but instead of pulling down pit road, he chose to stop on the track drawing the caution, then once the caution came out he put his car in gear and pulled away (to which he was penalized for two laps for intentionally bringing out the caution).

Again, I'm speculating but it might be something to think about.

The whole stopping on the track was amazing , is nascar going the way of WWF / WWE ? this week you can win next week he can win but make it look good ?

That is a good speculation; however  I have seen teammates at a Nascar race nearly kill each other in the final laps Alll of them want one thing, and that is to win regardless of how they get it done.

Besides I don't think that Kyle can plan something that marvelous.

I don't have a driver rant, per se.  But I heartily despise so-called "bump drafting".  Hey, get close, disrupt the airflow over the back of the car in front of ya all you want, but if you hit him, and knock him into a spin you should be penalized.  I saw way too many major accidents caused by bump drafting.

You'll hear me swearing a storm when fools with cold tires (new or after a caution) get loose and spin out.  C'mon folks, let's have a little common sense here.

Dang Kyle Bush.   Don't worry, Jeff and Junior are starting to make to progress.   Congrats to Jeff finishing 3rd and Junior finishing fourth.  Heck with first and second. Kept praying Bush would blow a tire.

The monkey and the dog can stay with me in the guest house.  He can visit them in between rounds of visiting with me.

I'm his secret fucktoy (at least in some of my wildest fantasies).  LOL

Gwynvyd -> RE: Attention Nascar Fans: Rant or brag! (6/1/2008 7:58:56 PM)

My man finished 5th and moved up a lot in the points.   Hendricks Motor Sports sometimes gets off to a slow start especially after reorganizing and winning a championship.
I cannot stand Kyle Bush.  Sorry Bush fans.
