ORIGINAL: Level Yeah, but isn't everything high dollar at TJs? Hell, wish we had one here. Yes, I've read up on saccharin, the scare over it a number of years ago was a prime example of bad science (or bad reporting). Let's see.... one tiny tablet is equivalent to two tablespoons of sugar.... to me, it tastes better than sugar. Saccharin was abused for no good reason. The amount needed to significantly raise the rate of cancer in lab rats was phenomenal. For a person to take in the equivalent amount is extremely unlikely. I'm not a big fan of the aftertaste but I've found that a very small amount of suger, a tablespoon or so, in a gallon of iced tea sweetened with saccharin and I don't notice the aftertaste. Exactly, I think it'd take something like drinking 800 glasses of saccharin water a day, for life, to replicate the equivalent of what the rats got in the lab. Been away for a couple of days, but I have this compelling need to add My 2 cents on those rats. The results are always horribly skewed. I still think that if we just killed (humanely, of course) all the rats, most of these terrible problems would go away! Saccharin, in fact, all the artifical sweeteners are yucky to My taste and aftertaste. But I know a lot of people who have become accusotmed to it, and even prefer it. I am glad I don't need an alternative sweetener. I just go for the sugar.
