The World of the lifestyle  as become smaller because  we have  a communcation such as www.collarme.com  and the access of the internet  with its many aspects   making it possible for people who are likeminded  come together  (no pun  intended)  and it as given birth what is known to some of us a community.  With that in mind what changes happened to you  concerning your BDSM Life how did it enrich in a postive way ?

back in High School I started working at Hot Topic. through HT and some of the amazing people that I worked with, I learned alot about Goth's Punk's Rivetheads, and Body modification. (and later Fetish)

as I became more involved in the respective communities..many people would make fun of me saying that I worked at a store that was the complete opposite to everything these Scenes Stood for.

and while I could see their point I also know that HT was a starting point. at HT I was piercing Ears with a Ear Gun but it wasn't until I was searching online for more information on Captive Bead Rings and bent barbells that I learned that piercing with gun is a truly horrible way of doing it. even to the point where I wouldn't use the gun anymore and as a store we collectivly decided to dissuade our customers of having it done, preaching the advantages of knowledgable Piercers using 3x beveled piercing needles.

the point is with the creation and utilization of the internet and mass communication devices there are a greater amount of Posers and Bullshit information and Online only BDSM etc etc but their are also more resources for those that are true additions to the scene/lifestyle to find a starting point and then take it as far as their desires will take them.

Smaller?? I think not, as it has exppanded expoentially and have been seriously diluted as a result.

Status: offline 		I thnk the newest, most alternative aspect of 21st century BDSM is that it is consensual and more informed.  Sadism, masochism, algolagnia, have probably existed forever, and erotic spanking and birching (and sexual slavery) all go back thousands of years.  Even for much of the 20th century, if you wanted exposure to safety advice -- or just funzy wunzy new techniques -- there were only a small handful of places to get that info.  And much of it was hard to separate from porn and wankfantasy.  Even harder than today.

For all the eye-rolling people do when submissives (and doms) post about doing some godawful stupid thing, remember how much worse the repercussions would have been in, say, 1928.  Things really have improved a lot.

I agree with Irish--its My life, now the alternative part--yep single Mom by choice, bought sperm 19 years ago of My selection, raised an UM alone by choice, was the head of a 3 woman family--moved us twice ( 2 residences ) for better employment, am a Wiccan in the Bible Belt studying to be a Minister to offer alternative spiritual counselling, choose to be the HOH no matter what with all that implies--yep alternative out of the gate--oh you mean to share with others who like spice in their lives? Status: offline 		The only difference I see is now there is somewhere to chat about stuff I may do or find of interest.  It is very similar to having had found doll makeover groups, watercolor painters group outings, and popping into the local bead store to check out the new potentials. 
I do what I do with total disregard to safety policies found online, or counsel from strangers about being nuts for taking shit, or loving wrong.  Frankly I might inquire what people think to get a little broader insight, but any decision remains mine.  I haven't met anyone because of joining alt, bondage, or cm, on the basis of meeting to find a kink partner.  People are always just people to me and I meet them as I would any other.  Non kink, non sex, non play, just regular friendly chat and if things move forward to more, fine.
For me broadening the places to discuss kink hasn't done any more than my doll groups, or jewelry groups, or anything else.  I still do what I do regardless of any other imput.

Most of us still have children to look after , still go to work, still have to file our taxes,  still go out and pull weeds in the yard, take dogs for a walk, go out shopping to buy groceries or take the car to get washed  etc... the core of our lives has not changed  we added an element to it or in other cases we now have a label to apply to to some of the sexual/non sexual activities we have been doing....we did not change lifestyles we still do most of the same things we did before we added kinks into out lives

Yep. 
I don't see collarme as a community.  I see it more as a website.  While you can get some good info here you can also get some pretty poor info.  Sites like collarme give us the opportunity to know where groups and functions are..which only makes the lifestyle larger.

YES!!!!   -   the internet gave me a little of an idea of what i could be, and now am. Without the internet, i would still be vanilla, and celibate- because the relationships i could have were bland, and scarey.  With my Sir my life is rich, and so not scarey because we aren't playing power games. We did all that initially, and now we just live our lives.
For me the internet -and what it bought me is like my mums fruitcake - dark , rich, aromatic, and full of fruits and nuts and brandy. Delicious!
My other life was more like madera cake - white and bland. Yuk!

ok - i must be hungry - better go cook dinner.

I don't know what it is with this 'teue' 'twue' absolutely really really really true......
any 'truth' is exclisive........and although I can hold professional opinions upon the psychological roots, formation, development, patholgies, obsessions and addictions of bdsm they are approaches and perspectives and NOT 'truths' which would exclude anyone.......I think the bdsm world has become richer, in many directions, meaning that it has become at one end of the spectrum almost a must have fashion item, a glieteratti clubbin thang to do, but also, just as in the glbt world, the post modernist melting pot, which relies a great deal upon the internet superhighway allowing interactionism between cultures that otherwise would not 'meet', whilst creating a wider audience also has the effect of making intimate and private bdsm activities. 'edge play' if you like, more enculterated and hold a special meaning in personal relationships. But what is bdsm lifestyle really? It's just WIITWD......as well as feed the kids, go to work, ook after aged parents, and the animals, ets ets. the internet makes it easier to do ALL of those things....especially ordering food on-line when I am too tired to be arsed. There was a time, believe or not, before computers ever existed and when a phone was a walk away with a pocket full of small change and two buttons, one to press to get your money back when no-one was home.... and then another walk. Just my two bobs worth.

Status: offline 		My first taste of the lifestyle came from seeing "D/s" in someone's description on MySpace.  I was thrilled when I found Collar Me.  I found my Master through here, and we are definitely real life. 

I think that whether or not a person feels that this is a "community" depends on what they get out of it.  I tend to feel like it is.  I have had questions that I wanted to share with others to get a better perspective before I approached my Master.  I feel that I have received (and given) true affection along with intelligent or humorous answers.  In my job I travel all over the world, but I am further than an internet connection away from people who understand me.
