Oh, I will keep telling myself that.  I'll also continue to roll my eyes at people that use words like "woodsy" or "creamy" to describe the taste of wine and beer.  Like I said, pretentious twits.

Beer is beer. It's made in different ways, so really I think it boils down to your favorite brewing style. Sure people throw in fancy things like pumpkin and blueberry but in the end, a good beer doesn't have to cost 45 a case or more. I pay 15 a case for the Yeugnling and I love it.

Status: offline 		If I am still tasting the beer ten minutes after I finish it, I don't want it.  If it has that strong aftertaste, its not for me.  It makes it seem kind of funny that I like Hobgoblin. 
I will drink nearly any beer if it is cold and was purchased by someone else though.

If I was Splurging then I would send for a New Glarus Belgian Red

So you really cannot tell the difference between Coors and Samuel Adams Winter Ale? Holy fuck. How sad for you.

I won't bother asking if you can tell the difference between Carlo Rossi "Cabernet" and Ridge Monte Bello.

We can agree on this, the Belgians make some fine beers and Lambics. One of my regrets from the last time I was in that part of Europe was we drove straight from the Rotterdam area to Luxembourg City, and didn't stop at any of the Belgian breweries.

Status: offline 		Don't feel sorry for me. I can tell the difference. But correct me if I'm wrong, aren't they two different sorts of beer? I thought coors was a pilsner which is different than an ale? I happen to like Sam Adams beers. But...there are beer snobs just as there are wine snobs (for the record, I dont drink wine, so no I couldn't tell the difference) and many other sorts who seem to think that the more far flung its origins and outrageous the name, the bette rit must be. Where in reality, a good quality beer doesn't nessesarily mean rare and expensive.

My first editor, on one of my first drafts, warned me of the dangers os slipping into "the world's worst prose, that of the commentator on wine." He then proceeded to describe Theodore Roosevelt in winespeak. It went something along the lines of "Flinty but refined. Robust with a hint of vulgarity...."

Twenty years later, it still makes me smile.

I happen to like Coors.  I think Sam Adams is overated and definitely overpriced.  I do notice the differences between them.  Differences doesn't necessarily translate into better.  It has to be more than just good for me to pay twice as much for it.  Sam Adams sells for about $9 a six pack here vs. Coors which sells for about $5.  You're right not to ask me about wine.  I have never cared for it.  It gives me heartburn and headaches, no matter how expensive it is.

Status: offline 		BTW, Painsmith, those three bottles you have in your fridge are top-notch, according to BeerAdvocate, which magazine is an offshoot of Bobby parker's WineAdvocate. I don't always agree with Parker, and think he places too much emphasis on extracted wines, but he's better than Wine Spectator, IMO. WS used to be less of a "lifestyle" mag, but I've eaten at a couple of their highly rated restaurants, and they are pretty spot-on. I still remember Tahn Dinh in Paris and the Petrus vertical I drooled over (first thing I did when I got home was duplicate their Smoked Duck Ravioli in Hoi-Sin Viniagrette to fix the recipe in my memory (I can remember tastes)).

Seems like they favor those Russian Imperial Stouts (Par for Parker & friends to like the monsters).

I do loves me some P&T's BS, but Iwould like to know where they got their tasters for that episode.... there are people out there whose jobs and even companies depend on palates that can tell the difference.

Status: offline 		I am a fan of the little mom and pop micro brews.  You can taste the care and love they put into each and every bottle.  There is a place in Little Rock AR that makes the best beer you will ever put your lips on.

Wouldn't have stopped in Luxembourg, but I was wiped out. Had my first Auxerrois (type of wine grape) there. Destination was Alsace.
