Status: offline 		i started watching the movie and it seamed really crappy and corny not cause of it's age but because of the additudes that i saw in it freaked me out expesaly when the one guy said they had to make her cry i stopped watching and turned it off

Should have kept watching. The movie had a much different, and in my opinion... better, ending than the book.

Oh, by the way, I like the taste of tears.

The acting isn't great, the story could have been put together better, and some of the attitudes weren't my style (though i'm sure they are others style), but the story itself i thought was very good. It's one of those things that for me makes a great fantasy though i don't think i could go through all that she did. My favorite part of the movie was the very last snippet at the end where she asks He loved her as much and if He would go through the same things as she did in order to be with her and then she brands Him, with her cig holder, quickly before He can pull away.

I rarely like watching BDSM porn, but I'm not a masochist.

That being said, I find elements of the versions I've watched to be enticing.

In my opinion the book is always better than a movie as you get into peoples heads better.
I think poor O was used, abused, and then pushed out like yesterdays garbage. The way she was treated overall was terrible. As far as turning me on from a fantasy perspective, yes I liked the book a lot.
You said when they made her cry you turned it off. I'm glad my Master and my Dom friends don't feel like my tears are a reason to stop using me as they see fit. Tears are not my safeword. I often do cry in very strong scenes, but I value the experience and wouldn't change a thing.

I think as it was intended to be erotic fiction it was a wonderful book overall.

Did we read the same book? In mine she never burned anyone with a cigarrette.

I loved the movie!
But this was my first taste of BDSM other than tying Barbie and Ken to gether and tying and being tied by the neighborhood boys, I was in a movie that was for people 18 and older, I was 15.
Great for an overactive imagination.

Book was alright, possibly one of those fantacys best left in the Imagination, at least for me.

Status: offline 		I read the book. Ehh. So-so. It had some moments that rang true, but eventually the author ran out of ideas, and the ending was completely unsatisfactory.

I didn't see the movie, but I did review a recently released illustrated version of the book. That wasn't too good either: a buncha fashion models with European-style "I'm so cool and let's finish this so I can take my cocaine break" faces, in artificial poses and bondage scenes that could not have been put together by anyone experienced with rope. My review was pulled because it was too explicit. (What did they expect?)

The books ok. The movies were what they were for their genre. Nothing overtly special and not very 'real'. A little crass and repeating in places. I would actually prefere to see the book interpreted onto film using todays technology with a good director. Maybe even a european direction - that may work. They are much more adventurous.

Status: offline 		When I first read Story of O it was considered THE kinky book. But at the same time the movie Emanuelle (or whatever.... if anyone here remembers that one) was considered the ultimate hard porn too.

Yesterday I was at one big "kinky-kino" place, really quite a public place opened for anyone. The movie that was running in the passage (and none paying too much attention to it) would probably cause even proverbial Mr. De Sade to blush. Lady sitting next to me in the bar was wearing lovely metal cuffs and heavy collar - and nothing else. Two couples were almost blocking the door entangled in complicated sexual position. And lots of people were just happily chatting and drinking and strolling around like nothing much was going on. And it wasnt really...... hubby and I considered it quite a boring evening

I want to say that the times are changing. What was some time ago looked at with shock and embarrasment, today may cause only mild attention. That is why Story of O today may probably look like average little book not worth reading.

Status: offline 		I loved the book... it was the first thing i ever read that had things in i thought about.. i was about 20..ordered it from a book club. that was a very long time ago, and i've always treasured it. I was in my 30's before i found out there were real people involved in thngs like that! (when i got my first computer) I just recently watched the movie, and tho movies are never as good as the book, it did have some differences i liked. I thought it was much better than some of the trash movies out there portrayed as BDSM.

I liked the movie, even though it was an old version of it. I wished they could do a remake of it. The images were at times very dark. I did love the outfit the slave were wearing. O really got to me, touched.........

Status: offline 		I have never seen the movie, but I loved the book. I read it when I was 20, before I even knew that I was submissive myself. I prefer books over movies, but I think I would enjoy the movie also.

i haven't read the book but in the end of the movie i saw she wasn't excused from service at all but her and her Master were in love and she continued as His slave. It was significant to me when she branded Him because although she is His willing slave it also shows that in a sense Masters can also be enslaved at times by their own emotions.

Status: offline 		Although I have never read the book or seen a film based on it, I did see a documentary and have read about the woman who wrote it (even though she denied for decades to being the author).

The story was written in pieces -- a series of letters to her lover -- a story to keep him intrigued. In actuality, she claimed to her death that she did not have any involvement in activities such as that in her story.
I have always thought it a beautiful thing to create something like that for a lover.
