Status: offline 		It's been my experience that most dominants (males especially, I believe) eventually get into making their own toys.

My dom just made a very effective contraption that allows us to use a door as a bondage frame. (A pretty simple standard design that is all over the net.) He's now working on a breast clamp.

I'm wondering what other types of toys people here have made, other than paddles. (Looking for inspiration for him...)

I appreciate any thoughts on this subject.

Status: offline 		With a minimum of work, I turn thin (1/4" or so) oak dowels into canes. I've made an extremely stingy flogger from a bicycle innertube. I've also made spreader bars from thick (1/2"+) wooden dowels. I've been fine-tuning a design for a platform bed customized for bondage for about a year and intend to eventually build a prototype. Spanking benches and wooden ponies are also in the design pipeline.

Status: offline 		My Sir has made four very nice floggers that are thick and long. They are made out of rabbit, leather, suede, and dear skin. They are all different and very exciting looking. He has also made a spanking bench and I believe a spreader bar. He also made a sirik out of delicate brass chain and little slave bells. I haven't seen any of it yet in person, but I will soon and I am so very excited.

Status: offline 		I've made a couple of toys. Because I have an aversion to leather, mine are either vinyl or other materials..

Made a "whip" with a dowel, wrapped in fabric. I then attached drapery cord, different colours. I tied the cords with wire, drilled out a hole in the dowel and glued the wire end into the hole.. It sticks in about 3 inches so that it doesn't fall out... It's light, but the cords are soft and can sting if the ends hit soft spots.

I made a synthetic feather tickler with a dowel. I painted it, varnished it and applied the same drilled hole and insert feathers with glue.

I also made spreader bars with bigger dowels and eyelet screws (from the hardware store).. The big thing is ensuring that the eyelet screws aren't to thick for the dowel or you will split the dowel when you screw them in.

If you search the net, there are several tutorials on line.

Status: offline 		I've made several types of clamps, and designed several of my floggers to be made for my hand and throwing style. I've only designed and made one flogger for myself. The tails are loops of braided buckskin. It takes a lot of arm, but it is a fine punishment flogger. It leaves a lasting impression...

I've made a variety of expandable spreader bars. Several from aluminum crutches, and one from an expandable brushed aluminum display rack that expands to a 5 foot length. It is a 2 piece unit that can be taken apart creating 2 smaller spreader bar units 2.5 feet in length extended with the ability to be mounted on other equipment. That makes the bars versitile enough to make gyno tables and the like when the pieces are separated and attatched to furniture individually. I've also saved the original mounting equipment in case I ever decide to make them a permanent part of something else. (It is truely a one of a kind piece. I'll probably never have access to the parts again.)

Several years ago, I made a slave stool featuring a clamp that will hold a variety of dildo's for a sub to sit on inserted either vaginally or anally (or both; with the right attachment.) The process is quick and easy enough that they can be made from most stools or wooden chairs in about 3 minutes. Original designs for the slave stools that inspired the piece are nothing more than a stool with a wooden peg attached to the seat.

A friend of mine has a freestanding steel frame suspension rack in her basement that was inspired by a trip to home depot. When it's not in use, it serves double duty for hanging clothes on. Another friend has a suspension rig featuring an electric winch that hangs from his playroom ceiling.

My favorite piece of homemade equipment by far, belongs to a domme I've known for several years. She designed (and her boy figured out how to make it!) a cross that can be turned a full 180 degrees to fully invert the subject. There are 250ish connectors on the back that can be used much like a lacing table. The cross itself is hinged, so the whole thing can be broken down into 3 parts to fit in the trunk of a car. It's a truely amazing piece of gear.

Look around and you'll find all kinds of inspiration. I highly suggest a trip to Home Depot. Theres a sex toy in every isle.

Status: offline 		Oh. I almost forgot. You can make a simple and unelegant spanking bench out of a sawhorse. You can find aluminum sawhorses for around $30 that are rated at 250lbs. Make a padded bench to bolt to the top, and two padded runners that can be bolted to the aluminum a-frames from end to end. If you use wing-nuts to attach the bolts to the frames, they are very easily disassembled for transportation, or to hide when the in-laws visit.

No matter what you do to them, they'll always look like a sawhorse, but they work very well.

Status: offline 		I've always liked 'A Frames' and made my own basic wooden frame similar to what you'll find anywhere on the net.

Trouble was that over a few short years, I had several subs come and go through my life and they were vastly different shapes and sizes - which meant 2 complete rebuilds. Necessity being the mother of invention etc, that frame has long been recycled as I designed and built an adjustible frame out of light-weight steel tube that fits all sizes with comfort. And it folds up ta boot for easy storage or transport! Problem solved....

motors and peices parts of misc things cast off from where he works.
I've heard it's finished, adjustable in speed, angle and what ever else
his twisted mind could come up with.
Somehow I just cant imagine..... Yikes

PVC pipe, velcro, duct tape, electrical tape, zip ties, fan blades, rope, chain, wire, building supplies, drills, vynal tubing, and other miscilanious items that can be put to some use in BDSM. So visit a supply store and start thinking outside the box. With ever few items you see, ask yourself "what can I make with this?"

For those on a budget, clothesline, clothespins, bungee cords and mousetraps all come in multiple packages for a buck. As do dog collars and leashes, feather dusters, paint brushes, etc.
My prize find there is a battery-powered "pore cleanser". Fits in the palm and has a little plastic suction cup with a surprisingly strong suction that latches onto a nipple or a clit and guarantees a loud squeal every time! And it vibrates quite nicely.

I make all my own floggers balanced with lead shot. I have also made what I call a cracker, its a long leather strap looped back on itself (about 3ft long) attached to a nice braided handle also balanced with lead shot and it sounds like a rifle shot when it strikes and leaves lovely square bruise. I have made canes with handles, clamps and various other toys. I sold them for a while at fetish fairs but they got so popular that it ceased being a hobby for me so I quit about a year ago. Now I only take on a few comissions now and again.

Status: offline 		A top i was with a few times made "paddles" out of paint sticks. He sanded them down to be smooth, put a little varnish on them and there they were -- wonderful little smack the bottom thingies at no cost since he'd gotten the paint sticks at no cost when he bought some paint for a 'nilla type project.

Being with Sir is like being with a mad scientist sometimes ~grin~. He's made quite a few things since we've been together.

Recently, he mentioned to me that he made a new toy, but that I would have to wait until I saw him on the weekend to actually see it. He came over on Saturday night and we were headed out to a local SM party. He brought his toybag upstairs and I asked him to show me the new toy. He pulled out a towel he had rolled up, bent in half and had rubber banded together.

"Oh dear god," was my silent reaction. It looked exactly like what it was, a rolled up towel rubber banded in half. What would people think? Surely he wasn't going to use this in front of people with 300 dollar floggers, was he?

Well, as we know, once you are cuffed to the cross, and the ball gag is inserted, you don't have much say. I just want to say, looks are decieving. As a big fan of "Thud" that is probably one of the most awesome toys I've ever had used on me. After we were done, a number of people came over to look at it, and several had gone home and made their own and sported them at the next party in 2 weeks.

Ok, so I'm a toy snob. But some of my favorite things in our toy bag now are things he picked up at one of the "Marts" or made.

Wish the subbie was here..she was next, but I killed the Tarantulla before she got here.

Status: offline 		Given the resorces, I'd prefer to make all my own gear except for cuffs as I prefer Police issus oned and not the cheap toys. That way I can have toys which suit my purposes and my hand. I'm teaching myself to plat Australian stock whips which can be modified for indoor use.

Status: offline 		Paddles, cuffs, harnesses, head harnesses, gags (I was briefly a designer for a manufacturer); Stocks, spreaders, ponies, spanking benches, bondage stools, a wide variety of structures for binding subs in various positions, out of steel or wood. I like versatile designs, that can be used in many ways, but I also like to make one-offs that fit a given person exactly for just one purpose- and I like them to look elegant as well as functional. Haven't had time for much of that lately, but I have ideas rolling around in the back of my head I'd like to get to.

There's a guy in 'Lost Wages' Nevada that has already made (and markets) a fucking machine. It mounts on a stand at the foot of the bed and has several attachments available. He also has 'toys' that attach to power drills and a battery powered cut-off saw. He claims that they give fantastic orgasms. He makes them himself in a machine shop East of I-95 in a warehouse/machine shop on Greyhound Rd. Almost all of his stuff is made from stainless steel and designed to use 'Doc' Johnson dildoes. It's pricey though, up into the thousands. He has an internet site if you want, I'll try to find the web address.
