A true Chicago Italian beef or combo ( Italian beef and Italian sausage) sandwich. Wet, ( well dipped in au jus), with gardiniera and sweet peppers. Orgasmic.

Where to get the best in Chicago has been a hotly debated controversy for decades. Finding out is heaven.

1.  HippieK, a taco is definitely a sandwich.  The best I've ever had:

  a.   Lengua (beef tongue) y queso fresca with cilantro, onions and fresh tomatillo salsa.

  b.  cabrito (baby goat) and eggs, black beans and incredibly hot green salsa (the perfect morning after breakfast).

2.  Peanut butter and sweet pickles.  My grandma used to make it for my brother and I and pack it in our lunches.

3.  Usinger braunschweiger (it must be usingers!), very ripe summer tomatoes, American cheese, mayo and a little mustard on marble rye.

E.

Portillos.  I've tried 'em all....still the best.  But I welcome suggestions, and even a "taste-off".

And I'm with you on exactly the way to order it, cjan (skip the sausage).  I like my beef like I like my women -- sweet and wet, with a side of gardiniera.

I'd have to throw my hat into the ring by nominating my Dagwood sandwich...a slice of bread, mustard, lots of roasted turkey, lots of cheese, another slice of bread, mayo, Virginia smoked ham, more cheese, more mayo and mustard.  Yummy!!!   You won't find any rabbit food on my sandwiches...if I want veggies, I'll eat a salad.  Anyone who knows me knows that the word "veggie" is not allowed in my home.  I'm a carnivore!  Argh!!!

A Deep Fried Clam PoorBoy Sub. They sold them this hole in the wall joint in Vegas that has been there forever they get the clams FRESH DAILY and are only open as long as they have food. If they order too much at 10:00 the give everything away for free. (Rarely does this happen, but it is how I found the Joint. I was Walking down the street when the Walked up to me and handed me a Bag and then walked away there were three Deep friend Clam Poor Boys I was Hooked after that I was a Regular)

Yeah, I like Cabrito. Don't find 'em much in the south of mexico, mostly in the north close to the border. I've had tacos all over Mexico, including iguana and chapulines (fried grasshoppers).
