One of the purposes on the boards is to get the opinions of others on a given issue.  So... when you come to the boards with a question or two.... are there some people you hope provide their point of view?  Or are you more interested in getting thoughtful opinions?.... or maybe you are looking for something else?

How about people that are new (or were new) to the lifestyle.... do you find yourself looking at the experienced people ... or specific people first? 

Are you satisfied with the quality of the answers that you get on the forums?

I like hearing from many different points of view whenever I pose a question or when I read other posts.  There are some more experienced posters whose opinions I particularly value.  I don't discount newer posters, but I may take into account their experience (if known) when reading their advice.

I like reading others' opinions.   Whether I agree or disagree, I usually find something that gives me reason to think about the subject at hand.   Without other opinions and thoes willing and wanting to voice them, it would be a very dull world.     There are some posters that I especially like reading their posts.   Could be that their views and lines of thinking coincide with mine.

This is interesting point...... are we just looking for opinions that validate our own... or are we actually listening to what others are saying with an open-mind and thoughtfully considering what they are saying.  I think we might do alittle of both at times...but maybe listening with an open-mind is alittle better for us in the long-run....

In all honesty when i have a question or a situation that i need some feedback on i do look for the response of certain people. In fact, i've even CM'd them a link to the thread and asked them for feedback in the past. Part of it is i value input from different people who are living differently then myself while maintaining a common goal. The other reality is i don't generally disregard any poster, unless of course they have a history of  being a dram queen (or king) and an attention seeking whore...Then i just read them to fulfill that massochistic part of me that needs punishment.

I'm satisfied with any informed, honest answer that I receive to anything I put up here.  There are some people that I know are more often to write a reply with a bit of a comedy side in mind.  I also know there are people around who do their best to answer questions based on their thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

Do I look for specific posters?  No, but I do tend to take a closer look at those answers I receive from people who are living this way in the physical world, rather than the electronic one.  More often than not, they are the people who are more likely to pull from their actual experiences, rather than what they might suppose.  For example, if I have a question about something that relates directly to My being poly, I will absolutely look to see if I find a familiar poster who also happens to be living poly.  I know they have the perspective that I am looking for from their life.

There are also some specific posters, who's view that I can appreciate, regardless of whether or not I agree with it.  If nothing else, they believe what they are putting out there is the non bs version of the way they see things.  I may not always like it, but I certainly respect it.

I take advice from those I respect (both of them). OK, there are more than that. But I do filter the advice by perving a persons profile and their other postings. I also like the humor and sarcasm. I just filter out the cock roosters and doormats. I've gotten good advice, good laughs and had a good time. What more can one hope for? Besides, its priced right.

I don't need anyone to "validate" my own opinions and thoughts.   I think people in general gravitate towards other people that have similar thoughts, strengths, ideas, etc.    I love reading others' opinions that differ with mine.   It gives me cause to think and to expand my thoughts and, maybe, just possibly may make me change my opinion.   Everyone has a right to have an opinion, whether we all agree with it or not.   Whether I agree with someone else's opinion or not doesn't make it right or wrong.

Well, I'll go on the record and say that the best poster on the boards is Master Fire.  I try to read everything she writes.

However, my primary reason for spending time on the boards is different from what was mentioned in the OP.  I saw some bad shit when I was younger, dealt with it, and figured some things out.  Any time I can help someone else deal a little better with what's going on in their own life, I'm pulling one more beautiful thing from what would otherwise be bad memories.

Personally I am looking for different view points, the more then better. I think of it like being able to turn the subject from 2D to 3D, which each viewpoint adding another angle to the subject, if that makes sense..

I like to hear allot of different views. There are those that continuously reply with snarky, judgemental remarks but I just ignore them.  I like to see other peoples views even if I disagree with them. It is nice to see the other side of the coin once in a while.

I try and help when and where i can , as i also gain help from others here in knowledge .BDSM kink fetish has been a part of my life's journey  for many many many "ok a long time " years yet new things can always be learned and share with other s .However i also feel if the first post is why don't i have a partner , or a question that may be answered by a simple back search on the same topic posted by a "new" person  then those need to do some  homework prior .I also have many here i respect the views of and value them sharing  as they live this VS cyber living .I too could list a long list of names yet i also would hate to leave others out .There are many benefits to this site and i enjoy them all , and thanks for sharing .

I enjoy most the threads where someone tosses out a topic for discussion. If it's something that catches my eye I will add my own thoughts to the mix. I rarely keep up with the threads afterwards. It's interesting to read other people's take on the issue, both thoughtful and asinine. Either way it's good information

I have started a thread here or there but only for the purpose of a general discussion. I can't picture myself bringing a personal question here and asking advice from a group of relative strangers who I have never met. It works for some but it just isn't my style.

I read widely on the boards. It seems to me the wise, intelligent, open-minded, 'kind to newbies' people give the wise, intelligent, open-minded, kindest answers ...to any reasonable questions asked ;-)

If I'm asking a question, it's because I want to bounce the idea off of people or get more input that I've already gotten. In other words, I'm usually looking for data rather than validation. Sometimes, I'm looking for something that will help me make a decision that I can't seem to make myself...and usually, it's stupid stuff like what to do with my hair. *chuckle*

But, I actually don't ask questions much; I think that's related to my fiercely independent, "I want to/can do it myself!" attitude. If I do have questions, I'm much more likely to ask the people who are close to me rather than on a board. But, I HAVE asked my share of questions.

I'll admit that I weigh people that I know and respect higher than those that I don't know or don't respect...but that doesn't mean I don't totally disregard what they have to say. Some of the wisest statements have come from those sources. Disregarding sources of data isn't a good idea, after all...and I AM a scientist/engineer. :-)

I completely agree Othie.

as I've mentioned in a recent post. I take peoples oppinions in the same context that I take horroscopes and fortune cookies. I take their oppinion and try to see from their point of view figure out how to apply it to myself. it doesn't really matter if they are right or wrong.

If you take everything and say "hmm what positive value can I take away from this post" then it is good.

there are some people who I have a level of respect for but even then I have to filter their advice through my own mind because...what if they didn't fully understand the situation...what if their advice doesn't apply to the partner I'm with..or my style of Domination...or etc etc. so I try and treat everything will the base question of "what can I learn from it" or "what value can I take away"

If it is a question, then i genuinely want all opinions even if someone elses viewpoint is way different to mine, it gives me a broader perspective on things.
There are some here whose opinion I value more than others, there are others whose humour and wit always bring a smile even if i disagree with what they say.

Sometimes I just post the goings on in my head trying to make sense of them and again any input or shared similar expierences are always duly noted.

And well if someone validates MY point of view ...well then its all good [:)]

I would say at this point, given that I have gotten tired with sharing my same viewpoints over and over again in the same recurring debates....

It's about 30% to share my opinions and read the opinions of certain individuals...

and about 70% entertainment.

There is a lot of funny people who post here....
