McCain went to The Naval Academy.
Of course his grandfather and father were *Admirals* but *of course* that had nothing to do with him getting in right?
Also, he was what they call "a reverse ace."
That means he crashed 5 planes not shot down 5 planes.
Anyone else who's grandfather and father wearn't Admirals would have been gone at 3.
He finished 3rd from the bottom of his class.
He liked hanging around the Officer's Club drinking beer more than he did hanging around the hangers.
Hardly an "eliteist." More like a fuckup.
Now who's the eliteist, a beer swilling, plane-crashing, fuck up who crashed 5 planes, graduated almost at the bottom of his class and got shot down over N.Vietnam or the guy who went to "Hah-vard" and has no military experience?

McCain's ancestry has nothing to do with his GRADUATION from the academy. Yes, the children of ring knockers get preferential enrollment - BUT that doesnt mean you graduate much less earn your wings. I ascended via OCS, and was the son of a MasterChief. As for earning his wings - McCain EARNED them nobody gets them as a result of parentage. When I was an IP in PriFly I busted out a ringknocker who was an admirals kid. I used to "swill beer" with another IP who busted out the ringknocker son of my former CAG!

McCain lost THREE planes. One he crashed into the bay in Corpus following an inflight engine fire. He ditched on the instructions of his IP, in full accordance with NATOPS. The second aircraft loss occurred when he was on the deck of the USS Forrestal and some asshole fired a Zuni across the deck striking McCains plane. He can HARDLY be faulted for somebody firing a rocket across the deck striking a stationary aircraft awaiting his turn on the cat. McCain climbed out over the refueling probe, jumped to the deck, and joined the firefighting efforts. This incident is still shown at OCS, API, and RTC in a film called "Learn Not To Burn". The third aircraft loss was when he was shot down on a strike.

McCain hung out in an O-Club and drank beer? HOW UNAVIATOR LIKE OF HIM!!!! I hung out in whorehouses and townie bars and drank flaming shots of Jerimiah Weed. The beer was just to kill the taste. (Jerimiah Weed tastes like shit but at 100 proof you dont care) As for hanging around the hangar... If you dont have business there - you dont hang out there. Its a hangar not a social club. Even when on duty, as a fleet pilot, I was SELDOM in a hangar. I had watches to stand, paperwork to do, training to take, briefings to attend, LSO reamings to take, asses to kiss, etc... I didnt need to hang around a hangar - thats what I had a plane captain for. Even as an IP, I was in classrooms, simulators, and my office a lot more than hangars. When I wasnt on duty, I was off base getting drunk, getting laid, and driving too fast. I probably bought Martin Wiessmans house for him, may god rest his soul, as I lived at Trader Jons. Such is the life of a Naval Aviator.

God imagine that a beer swilling Naval Aviator... No wonder I like McCain but I gotta send him a bottle of Jerimiah cause hes breaking tradition with that beer....Beer is for breakfast.

Aviator, you forgot one that he crashed on the way to a football game and another that had something to do with powerlines.

Ive read the articles and they are bullshit. As for the powerline strike - thats not a crash thats a routine incident in A1's which is what he was flying at the time. The "Sandy's" as they were known often hit powerlines, tree branches, etc. Thats part of the game when you fly low level ops. My first mission in Iraq in 1991 somebody came back to the carrier and trapped with several hundred feet of cable tv cable trailing from his horizontal stabilizer. When I tried crop dusting, just for shits and giggles to add to my logbook, I got a clothesline and corn stalks.

Ever heard the famous pilot poem "High Flight" by J. Gillespe McGee Jr? The one read at astronaut funerals etc? When I flew A-6's we had this version:

 "Low Flight"
Oh! I've slipped through swirling clouds of dust,
A few feet from the dirt,
I've flown the Intruder low enough
To make my bottom hurt.
I've SRTC'd the desert, hills and valley,
Mountains, too.
Frolicked in the trees,
Where only flying squirrels flew.
Chased the frightened cows along,
Disturbed the ram and ewe,
And done a hundred other things,
That no sane man would care to do.
I've smacked the tiny sparrows,
Bluebirds, robins, all the rest,
I've ingested baby eagles,
Simply sucked them from their nest.
I've streaked through total darkness,
Just the other guy and me,
And spent the night in terror of
Things I could not see.
I've turned my eyes to heaven,
As I sweated through the flight,
Put out my hand and touched
The Master Caution Light.

A wire strike on a Sandy is no big deal. As for the other one - I call bullshit! The story mentions a "flame out" and an "ejection". Sandys were not jets so they cant flame out NOR did they have ejection seats. Kind of tough to have a flame out in a prop plane and to then eject without an ejection seat... Sounds a lot like one of those media stories where people had "semi automatic revolvers" or where they were "recovering the black box from the cessna" (good luck finding it - its not there!) LOL

Another thing about that article... it repeatedly menitoned him training in Pensacola. McCain trained in CORPUS CHRISTI not Pensacola. Very poorly sourced and written. All primary flight in the US Navy is either Pensacola or Corpus. Mc Cain Went to Corpus... Then Kingsville TX. Since he was an academy grad he wouldnt have even been in Pensacola as he was already commissioned and wouldnt need OCS or API like I did....

So, you guys DO AGREE that making unsubtantiated accusations about someone, based on half truths, and hyperbole is a BAD IDEA? I see...

So then are you ready to change your tunes regaurding Obama's supposedly being pro-Hamas?
That Hillary was somehow complicit in Vince Foster's "murder/suicide?"
That Obama is secretly a Muslim?
That Hillary is actually a lesbian?

Funny how quick you get tired of the BS when it's your guy being the target of wild, unsupported accusations.

Suck it, republicans!

Well, I for one do agree about those being bad ideas. Are you ready to say the same about defaulting to hate speech and declaring that people with a different party affiliation are automatically monsters, only suitable to "suck it?"

BiPolarBear several non-republicans responded to your OP with the facts of McCain's history. Your sour attitude makes Democrats look bad because of your inability to contain yourself on this matter. I'm one of those Democrats...

I would LOVE if Hillary actually came out. I don't think Obama is Muslim. And If Obama is nominated then, I'm voting for McCain.

For crying out loud.

Those with their wits, especially one who's Navy or ex-Navy, ought to know more about the Forrestal.  No one fired that rocket; it got set off by stray voltage (a safety pin and rocket pigtail were removed too early, but devices that should have prevented the stray voltage failed.)  It was an accident.  The fires were exacerbated due to the presence of degraded, WWII-era bombs on deck that cooked off prematurely.

Two  months prior to the incident on the Forrestal, a Zuni stored on an F-8A (based on the Hancock) misfired.  It wounded several crewmen, but no other planes were hit.

For  more info, try reading Sailors To The End: The Deadly Fire On The USS Forrestal And The Heroes Who Fought It (Gregory A. Freeman, Morrow).  Or watch Situation Critical:  USS Forrestal, which plays from time to time on Discovery Network channels.  And this event was also a case study in a reliability magazine, but I don't have a ready reference for it (one of my coworkers had it, I haven't seen it for 15 years or so.)

That incident is why all personnel on ship are trained in firefighting.

The USS Forrestfire as I was told it. But then again I'm only a Navy brat with no actual experience.

I would never call Hillary a lesbian.  I LIKE lesbians.  As for that other stuff ....its just bodies under the bridge.

zero's got their own kitchen and a disproportionate cut of the food budget but still bitched and moaned about food in the wardroom. Did you guys ever even wonder how truly awful the food in the enlisted galley was?

It's been my experience, Ken, that there is a direct relationship between bitching about the chow, and coming from a family with some good cooks in it.  Meatloaf at the mess hall was actually a little better than Mom's.

Of course, I also had the good sense to join the Air Force. (We send the officers off to get shot at, so you don't have to! <unless the guys with the SCUDS figure out where we park, of course>)

I only had one experience with air force chow. I spent 6 weeks at Lackland AFB for a crypto school. That mess hall, the non recruit one, should have been condemned and declared a superfund site. Even the worst USN food I ever had was much better than that dump.

But yes my mother was a great cook and I was already a not bad cook by the time i got into the Navy.

There is no 'tune to change', because you were called on your deliberate BS by the same people who have been shooting down the myths about the other candidates.
Your choice to spread sleazy lies was because you wanted to, not because the 'evil other side' forced you to against your will.

But feel free to make the case that lying, or rumormongering, or extremism, or anything else is really OK, as long as your side does it...

Accidents do not happen they are caused. I didnt say that an F-4 WSO sighted him and fired it, I said "some asshole fired a zuni across the deck" and thats what happened. As per the NATOPS manual, the source of the "stray voltage" was a master switch that was on when it should have been off and a weapons breaker that was on when it should have been off. (Somewhat akin to hooking an electric outlet to a live circuit and then being surprised when you get a spark) As you correctly noted the safeties and pigtail were removed - there is a reason for three foot long red streamers that say "REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT" rather than "REMOVE WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE IT" . In this case the "asshole" was a red shirt who was taking shortcuts and disregarding procedures....  So I stand by my original position thats some asshole (an aviation ordnanceman) fired a zuni across deck. Mc Cain did not "crash" he was sitting in his A-4 waiting for his turn on the cat when he was hit by a rocket fired across the deck. If you are minding your own business bending over to tie your shoe and someone comes along and cornholes you does that make you gay? Being hit by a rocket coming across the deck before youve even taken off doesnt make you an incompetent aviator either.

Funny I don't recall anyone here in this post saying Obama supported Hamas, what has likely been said is repeating the actual event Hamas expressing support for Obama.
(says nothing about Obama, but does make any thinking person ask why Hamas would express such a support)
I don't recall anyone making any serious accusations about Hillary being a lesbian. (some name calling maybe but never a serious accusation)
The whole Obama being a muslim thing has never traveled farther than a coouple days questioning and examining the facts on my part. (Muslim father made it plausable, but the idea never had any real legs)

So who is it here you are accusing of such slanders who are the nameless "you guys" Name them off with context. Otherwise I tell you plainly I judge the second part to be nothing more than a false attempt to save face when busted.

Nah.....you're right; I didn't see any of that either.....

But here's a brother who seems to be angry with Wright and Obahma.

As bad as the folks who swear Katria was sent to punish NO for gay parades.
The guy is a loon, as much a barking moonbat as I have occassionally accused some folks from what I see as both extreams.

LOL LOL LOL Katrina didnt punish New Orleans for anything. It sure stuck it up Houston's ass though! We got them all here!!! 76% of the population of Harris County's jails are now Katrina refugees, (Meaning crime more than doubled - we went to three jails and are building a fourth). Our schools are overpopulated, the test scores dropped through the floors, teachers in certain districts are fleeing like rats from a sinking ship because they are getting knife carrying kindergarteners with gang tatoos , property values dove through the floor in some communities, and there are whole areas of the city where even the Mexican Mafia and MS13 are no longer safe much less law abiding citizens. The only thing that saved my home value was living on the right side of "The Deer Park Line".  Katrina wasnt New Orlean's punishment for anything - it was natures way of flushing and Houston became the cesspool....
