ORIGINAL: MissSepphora1 thank you. I was just about to say just that. Not to mention that part of our oil is from South America, which doesn't have any desert but a lot of rain forests. I don't understand how people can remain so ignorant in a world full of information. quote:

ORIGINAL: lronitulstahp my, my, my....aren't we combative? Common sense...drilling in the areas where there is now forest removes the tree cover, thereby removing the habitat for animals...thus killing many of them. pretty simple, really. ... Besides...most middle eastern oil comes from the desert...not exactly bounteous in forests.... Two points #1 Oil drilling is not nearly as destructive as people think. I live in Houston and there are oilwells EVERYWHERE. We have an oil well down on the end of my cul desac. (No its not mine I WISH!) It occupies an footprint of about 8' square and is basically like a green 5 foot high fire hydrant. Ya know the rigs LEAVE after they finish drilling now. Drilling a well is not even that big of a project - the area they clear to set up a rig is smaller than one house and when it leaves they fill in the mudpit and reseed and its a nice wildflower meadow. I honestly wouldnt give a shit if they drilled a well on my front lawn and at $120+ a bbl for a 1/8 at the wellhead share like my mineral lease says I would kiss their ass on the pitchers mound of the Astros game! If youre reading this Conoco - come drill Kev's lawn! Point #2 A desert is a delicate ecosystem too with LOTS and LOTS of life. A desert is every bit as inhabited as a forest, are endangered tortoises worth less than spotted owls? When were you going to say that? Three hours ago when i first posted and you remained here silent, or after DA posted a reply? Whatever....i'll give you the benefit of the doubt...and admit that it is tricky...reliance on foreign oil is a huge problem we face as a nation. i am not ignorant, in the least. Just as i would assume you aren't. Fruits being what they are, and all. You seem to be rational, thoughtful, and intelligent...but since you disagree with me, i'm ignorant....that's unfair. i have never relied on namecalling as a means of expressing my thoughts, nor do i say i am always right. My opinions don't pose any sort of solution...just my feeling on drilling in a protected area. But then again...neither did anything i've read on THIS part of the thread. It's simply an exchange of ideas, and commentary. Call me mushy,(but please don't call me ignorant ;0))i like little things like unmolested nature. Maybe it's my kink...i dunno. i even hate to see a new sub-division going up. Wish we could've done this three hours ago...now i'm all sleepy. But not ignorant...just sleepy.
