Just so you know, the days of fields of derricks are long long long gone. Now the rigs are mobile they drill and they move off. They also have implemented horizontal drilling to increase spacing - so now there is maybe one well per 40 acres or so... I spoke to a gentleman the other day who was drilling for oil 25 years ago. They drilled the wells then immediately capped them. When he asked why they told him it was so they could drill at the current (then) cost and then sell it at future (now) prices. it makes you wonder how slowly the oil companies are going to be about breaking the news about these "new sources." And when you guys listed petroleum products, you left out a couple of American neccessities: Vaseline and Velveeta (yes it does use petroleum products as ingredients). If you use either of those then bitch about drilling, you're a hypocrit. Lets see. Anwar - DRILL THE SHIT!!!! The gulf platforms - GET THE FRACK BACK OUT THERE!!!!! E.P.A. - LET US BUILD SOME DAMNED REFINERIES!!!!!!! I can't tow a horse trailer with a Metro or a Prius so gimme my fuel. And, I don't care that its 3 and 4 bucks a gallon. When I need to be somewhere, the reason for going is more important to me than the cost.

Drill what we have now then worry about running out. And I'm not an engineer, but I'm sure that there are alternate energy solutions out there that no one is telling us about, just to keep us stupid. Sooner or later they will drill for the oil in Canada, at present its not cost effective to do so, as it takes the energy from two barrels of oil, to produce one barrel. The way forward is alternative sources and in the UK they are building massive wind farms. This will help but not solve the problem.

At present electric cars are good for short runs only. So we need oil. Its funny but I remember reading an article where a group of geologists showed that we have more oil under american soil than exists in all of the middle east. Like anything else though, people didn't want to hear it because they said it was cheaper to get it from the great sandbox. makes you wonder if we're just trying to use up all of someone elsse's resources before we start using ours

You are right, we have more oil than the great desert. But bleeding heart liberals enjoy the idea of "not in my backyard" and "let everyone ride bikes". Take the posterboy for the bleeding hearts Al Gore, who took private planes to speeches where he told people to just ride bikes, and has a huge house in Memphis that used more energy than several houses combined. They love to tell others what to do and point fingers. The average commute in WV is about an hour by car. Yes, I guess we should all get out our bikes... especially when it can get to 0 degrees in the winter and over 100 in the summer. How fucking practical.
