Hate to be the bearer of bad news but when they crack down that will go as well. Even drawings have to be authenticated anymore.

KatyLied -> RE: Sighhhhhhhhh (10/20/2005 10:55:45 AM)

There isn't much about this that makes sense. Why are avatars indecent on the message boards, yet okay on the main page? Why are headless personal pics indecent, yet similar pics with heads okay?

Did you read ShadeDiva's posts about the new laws taking affect? In time, my avatar won't be ok either. Not unless the ownership of collarme can authenticate it actually is me. Have my name and address, contact info down if the feds were to come ask about it.
If I were moderating a site like this one I don't even have a clue where I would start.
You can put a big disclaimer on the front page saying what is acceptable and what is not. You're still going to get people whining and trying to do as they please anyway.
Imagine going through each and every profile here to remove the photo's that are now banned. Not even by collarme but by the US government.
I'm not quite sure why it also applies to drawings but I do know it has expanded to them. The only thing I can assume is it could be copyrighted material? Perhap's a drawing of a particular person and you may not have the rights to distribute it?
I'm not sure but I am sure with a limited amount of digging the answer can be found.

KatyLied -> RE: Sighhhhhhhhh (10/20/2005 11:08:07 AM)

I'm content at this point to sit by and see who else is indecent. And how soon we'll all be indecent on the main page.

Fawne -> RE: Sighhhhhhhhh (10/20/2005 11:08:32 AM)

[&o] my little deer is gone too.

? cartoon drawings of small woodland creatures XXX ?

I am a mod on another BDSM site, EVERYTHING has been removed there. They are cracking down as we speak. Our freedom's are slowly being taken from us one by one.

Isn't it a great country? Surely we must be headed in the right direction.

DesertRat -> RE: Sighhhhhhhhh (10/20/2005 12:37:33 PM)

hmmm...I thought the Republicans were gonna get government out of our lives and make us MORE free?? I guess that only applies to the rich and the corporate...silly me.

Seriously, though: Am I hearing you guys right? Is my run-of-the-mill headshot pic going to have to be removed? And my fully-clothed profile pics?

Bob

Yes. But only because we are tired of looking at you. <joking>

I am not entirely ure what the fuss is all about. An avatars just an avatar - a photograph a photograph. I have mine removed from the other side months ago - no biggie - I can just send it out to people. These images are jut that, images. They don't make a person who they are. I would rather see CM stay then be destroyed. OK - so the law sucks at times - and people have no idea - but change will come... I have every belief in that. Change occurs but takes time. And it comes when we all strive for it - but at our own risk - not CMs and the people that run it. They can choose to take the rap for us all, but I wouldn't want them to do that for me. We can make the stand on our own, individually - because that will make us more powerful, united together, and not just nameless faces on a single site.

Yea godz I sound preachy - ah well...

From what I understand in time, yes it will. Still have to authenticate who you are somehow, which cannot really be done on the internet. Sure, you can register your name..address with the site owner but unless they have seen you in person to verify that is you, what good is it?
Of course, this is how I am interpeting the law. Been reading oodles on it the past 6 month's. Collarme is just a hobby. I do have other more pressing interests...like trying to protect us and our rights.

This all started with article 2557. Now the other day I saw someone on here claim they knew the feds and they haven't come down on anyone yet. That is not true. Many sites have shut down. BDSM sites were the first to go.
There have been multiple threads here on cm about it...but sadly they go off track rather rapidly.
Right now on our site we still have head shots. Though in time...I believe they will go as well.

Aileen68 -> RE: Sighhhhhhhhh (10/20/2005 1:37:20 PM)

Probably...my little vanilla pic just got removed. Oh well

Aileen68 -> RE: Sighhhhhhhhh (10/20/2005 1:38:04 PM)

Hey...it's back. It was gone for a while

The fuss is not about CM, avatars or even pictures, the fuss is about the fact that our freedoms are being eroded and not for any noble purpose but to allow the governments to gain better control over the populace. And if you can live with that, if any of us can, then they have won. The Forth Reich might just last a thousand years this time. All those platatudes of the 'Home of the Free' or we just being a free country will be a thing of the past. I am talking about UK here as well as the USA, as Blair is trying to pass similar laws here. Think I am over reacting well look in the other direction while they do this and all you'll hear is me saying I told you so.

As for keeping CM alive, why not change the server to a differant country. one that thinks adults should be able to make up thier own minds on what they want to see or read?

Yeah! I'm canadian. I should be allowed to have my smutty icon ;)

To be honest, I was sad to see my Namio portrait icon go, but in the grand scheme of things, if giving up a little avatar is what it takes to keep our thoughs, opinions, words up, then I'll deal until this all gets resolved.

I believe, but I'm not a 100% sure, that if the owner of the site is American, s/he could be hosting it on Mars and it wouldn't matter.

To be quite honest, it's a really shitty deal that the US people got. I thought it was a country that recognized freedom of expression...

That is precisely correct. At least one of the sites closed by the FBI used an offshore server.

WickedKev -> RE: Sighhhhhhhhh (10/20/2005 5:39:26 PM)

Oh well it was just a thought.

Lordandmaster -> RE: Sighhhhhhhhh (10/20/2005 5:54:32 PM)

Why don't we just impeach the fucker? I'd say it's high time.
