The wannabe's are just that..people who "Want To Be" but have not yet gained experience in real time, experience they are seeking. Don't dismiss them out of hand, remember at one point you to 'Wanted to Be" and weren't.

What a wise sentiment!

To that I would add that experience is not learning, experience is only having had the opportunity to learn. I would much rather have a sub who knows very little, but pays attention and thinks about what she sees and hears, than one who has repeated the same mistakes for ten years and calls it "experience".

my personal opinion is that everyone would like to be something. It takes a positive and a negative to create a circuit. Without it we all alienate and can just say or label ourselves anyway we seem to feel like. There is no reason but to feel negative just cause we haven't found that other polling attraction. That will only help us alienate even further to where we are or standing and create a hard surface in our hearts thus making it hard for us to relate to the next potential available candidate. So if we are labeled by someone as a "wannabe" it is not due to that "we cant be" It may simply mean that we are not compatible to be what we're asked to be of. So i would suggest that the whole subject of the wannabe syndrome is one that is made up by people that wish others to become of something that they simply cant be. On the other hand there is always someone that is suitable for everyone.

I wannabe a millionaire,I wannbe 30 again,I wannabe able to speak all the languages of the world...is this possible?..nope...so wannabe can still mean an impossibility of such a thing coming to fruition due to either circumstance, laws of nature, fear, or ability......but in the context of BDSM..wannabe can also imply that I wannbe able to misrepresent myself as much as possible no matter the trail of chaos and harm I leave behind...Who knows..the English language leaves much for re-interpretation..you simply have to depend on the current interpretation going at the time ,to possibly ,understand the context for which it is being used...Tempting

As far as the wannabe/nevagonnabe thing.  They are 'tourists' in my book. They are just visiting and wont be here 2 years from now.

So how does one distinguish a Wannabe from a Nevagonnabe?

Divine omniscience? Clairvoyance?

How do you know who's just a Wannabe as opposed to somebody who is never ever going to do it?

When i was barely 20 the owner of the company i worked for was a wise although eccentric man.  He was worth millions but drove the most ugly piece of junk cars.  We teased him on day that he ought to buy a new car.  He said "And what kind of car should I buy?"  He sat with a twinkle in his eyes as we gave our suggestions, everything from a Corvette to a Bentley.  Then he said, "There are only two kinds of cars.  Those that run and those that don't."  Being practical, i said "But if you buy a new car, you'll have one that doesn't break down as much."  His reply is but even a new car breaks down and then it become 'one that doesn't run' and "Then what do I do?  If I have a car that runs and it becomes a car that doesn't run, and I put it in the shop then I don't have a car and have to find one that runs.... so I might as well just buy another one than go through the trouble of fixing one, borrowing one while the other is being fixed.  My way is just easier and more simple."

i tell this long story for the lesson i learned that day.  Place lables all you want but in the end there is simply 'right for me' and 'not right for me' when it comes to partners.

OK, nothing worse than a Master who crawls out of bed at 4:30 AM..and has time to wake up before you do at 7 am, thereby being far more alert and ready for an intellectual conversation while you are still trying to find the coffee. What started the discussion this morning was a profile on CM of a Submissive (self identified) that was basically a diatribe against what she did not consider dominants and proper behavior or contact from them and Wannabes. Well everyone is entitled to their opinion and to make clear what they are or are not seeking and trust me neither he nor I have a problems with that. Where the biggest problem came in (besides a mixed message she was giving) was the term Wannabe. So...you guessed it I am off and running[/quot

BP,

A really excellent post!

Pretty Fly

youknow it's kind of hard
Just to get along today
Our subject isn't cool
But he fakes it anyway
He may not have a clue
And he may not have style
But everything he lacks
Well he makes up in denial

So don't debate, a player straight
You know he really doesn't get it anyway
He's gonna play the field, and keep it real
For you no way, for you no way
So if you don't rate, just overcompensate
At least you'll know you can always go on Ricki Lake
The world needs wannabe's
So do that brand new thing

He needs some cool tunes
Not just any will suffice
But they didn't have Ice Cube
So he bought Vanilla Ice
Now cruising in his Pinto, he sees homies as he pass
But if he looks twice
They're gonna kick his lily ass

Now he's getting a tattoo
He's gettin' ink done
He asked for a '13', but they drew a '31'
Friends say he's trying too hard
And he's not quite hip
But in his own mind
He's the dopest trip

So don't debate, a player straight
You know he really doesn't get it anyway
He's gonna play the field, and keep it real
For you no way, for you no way
So if you don't rate, just overcompensate
At least you'll know you can always go on Ricki Lake
The world needs wannabe's
The world loves wannabe's
So let's get some more wannabe's

And do that brand new thing

totally off-topic...apologies.
Thank you Elusive! Waaay back, I can still remember my 2 teenagers, playing and replaying this song ( which i love, btw)...we agoinised for ages over some of the words. I can now send them the words....thank you

Actually yes I am

I also wannabe rich, Master and I are working towards that goal but the government keeps pushing the bottom line on it.
I wannabe healthy and alive, so I quit smoking, see my doctor and take my meds.
I wannabe thinner..I was 275 lbs and now after a long struggle and time weigh 176, one day I will be 150 because I put an effort into it.

I am also a nevagonnabe on several things
I am nevagonnabe someone who will go to Iraq and fight the war
I am nevagonnabe someone who gets out of this life alive
I am nevagonnabe a submissive ( it's just not in me, though I am one hell of a slave and Dominant)
I am nevagonnabe a Doctor, getting into med school and through it and residency at age 55 aint' happening.
I am nevegonnabe my parents or perpetrate their acts on anyone incapable of giving informed consent.
I am nevagonnabe younger than I am right now.
I am nevagonnabe President.

The differences between the two? One is possible and can be worked towards. The other is highly unlikely and/or I am putting no effort towards making it happen.

poenkitten who is a wannabe reader of every book ever written, but knows she is gonna be a nevagonnabe on that as she can't read a book a second and even then wouldn't live long enough.

Yeah, there's a few "wannabes" in here.
Living at home with your parents in the "Mancave" does not a Dominant make.

You need to have your own place! That's one of the basics.
"Moved back home temporarily" just isn't a good sign.

Well talking of labels, de latest one i have heard here, is bdsm tourist ohh,,, he or she is just a bdsm
tourist.... a wannabe defined as someone who wants something...
Yes t`would be nice, to find a domme over here with a sense of humour.

and while bdsm is serious tis not that serious, as in a domme who looks like she be trying
to sit an exam or like a surgeon doing some big important operation.

where`s de FUN - de kink positive, de good vibes.
it t`would seem some folks over here want to get real serious and study bdsm as if it were a course
the a-z of different procedures but no emotional engagement.
maybe should read i wanna be human but do not know how to be dominant and in control and human
at de same time.

hey is it not true wannabes make de world go around and good for de internet too...
just to say when i was born i did not have a label.........
just wondering might this discussion be seen by some as trivial..?????
just saying..
my label should read, made in Ireland, available to travel, try not to be judgemental of others.
and like de scene - well except where there be no scene, which brings moi back to....
