Okay so last night I was channel surfing, It was about 3am so nothing was really on. Then I noticed a movie on TNT. Silence of the Lambs. Now being only 23 I had never seen the movie before nor any of the other Hannibal Lecter movies. But I had heard many people speaking of it in the past. Intrigued by the opprotunity, I settled in to see what all the fuss was about, expecting your average run of the mill slash em up blood and gore flicks i generally watch for lack of something better to do. At first it seemed my suspicions were correct as the plot seemed to take a rather predictable outline. Then as the story progressed, I found the plot utterly captivating.
Instead of the usual 3 hour slash and gore fest, I discovered a VERY well written and laid out plot. It took so many unexpected twists and turns. I had expected Hannibal Lecter to be your typical murderous psychopath along the same lines as Freddy, Jason, etc. Instead I found myself glued to my seat, positively fascinated with the sheer brilliance and genius of that man's intellectual prowess and cunning.
Insane, Most definitely. But he had so much more DEPTH to the character than most other horror film personages. Innately polite, courteous, and in his own way, helpful.
If you have not had the pleasure of viewing this most WONDERFULLY put together film I highly recommend that you do! Otherwise I daresay you will be missing out on a marvelous masterpiece and in short, a real treat.

It's one of my all time favorite movies. The novels by Thomas Harris are well done, by the way.

Morning, good lady. He is an excellent writer, IMO. Heck, the other movies aren't too bad, for that matter.

I'll often dissect a movie after I've watched it...lead should have been played by xxxx, if they'd only said xxxx instead of xxxx at that moment it would have been better....etc.

This is one of very few movies where I can say without hesitation, the script was exceptional, the acting was perfect, the settings were flawless, the choices for actors were with no exception the best possible choices in every way...and the popcorn even tasted better too.

Hitcher was good. I seen that the other night. I usually avoid this type of film, but I liked this one.

Hannibal Rising is truly disturbing. The only problem with silence of the lambs is some people think it offers sound dating advice. They think Meigs is Dr Phil LOL...

You may not like all of them. They aren't all like Silence of the Lambs. The very first movie adaptation of those Thomas Harris novels was Manhunter http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091474/

It came out in 1986, and it's actually pretty good. They remade the movie in 2002 with Red Dragon, which was well done. However the other movies in the franchise, I didn't particularly care for.

I saw Silence when it came out way back when (Anthony Hopkins on a fifty foot screen is truly creepy) and have seen it many times on DVD since then.

There's a wonderful true story that when the film was on general release Hopkins used to sneak into the back row of a inema just as the film was ending and then lean forward and whisper into the unlucky patron in the seat in front him's ear, "Did you enjoy the movie" in his Lector voice.

don't have to rent them, i own all of them: Manhunter, Silence of the Lambs, Red Dragon (remake of Manhunter), Hannibal (the greatest romance of all thime, but i can't believe they changed the ending for that bitch Jodi Foster and then she didn't even do the role and then, then they didn't change it back!! i love the ending in the book...) and Hannibal Rising - which i am a bit dissapointed in, though i have heard rumors that Harris didn't really want to write another Hannibal book and this is what he crapped out at his publishers demands...

and sadly everyone around me veto's my requests for hannibal marathons..

LOL!! I think I would have jumped out of my seat! I havn't seen Silence in a couple of years, but I used to watch it whenever it was on. Definately one of those movies that could creep me out, and scare me regardless of how many times I have seen it. The last time, I remember I had so much trouble getting to sleep, and finally fell asleep at 4am, with my table lamp on.

I think that "Silence of the Lambs" was by far better than "Red Dragon/Hannibal". I would have really liked "Red Dragon" but I was not impressed w/the "Tooth Fairy/Reba" storyline. So dryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy! Just my

Hannibal was okayyyyyy, I really liked the beginning and Julianne Moore did an excellent job playing Clarice but just not the same "Umph" as "Silence of the Lambs". Jame Gumb was not only SICK but had his funny moments too. You could actually lol at some of his statements, but the "Tooth Fairy"

, nothing there, nothing at all.
Now Mason Verger, in Hannibal, was alot more interesting/the scene w/the wild hogs...ewwwwww! :))

Not to stray too far off topic but the cross dresser serial killer is the same character that now plays Captain Leeland Stoddlemyer on the Monk series. i loved Silence of the Lambs too - fascinating watch!

anyone thats seen the movie Joe Dirt knows the parody they did of Buffalo Bill. lol i liked the Joe Dirt one better for laugh factor :D

It was a brilliant, intelligent script, and wonderfully acted. Hopkins is one fantastic actor. And I've always liked Jodi Foster. I watched it last night, too! For the 3rd or 4th time. :)

BTW Pahunkboy i watched The Hitcher as well, with my daughter, this week and i enjoyed it very much. i had seen it years ago, but did not remember all the details. That truck scene was horrifying - he was a true sadist lol.

They have done remakes of The Hitcher.
