Chellekitty, out of interest, what did you make of Brian Cox as Hannibal prior to Anthony Hopkins taking over the role in the latter films?

I saw Brian Cox in Manhunter long before I saw Anthony Hopkins who later took over the role. People fell in love with Hopkins' charm, his erudite demeanour and the connection he built with the Clarice Starling character. I found I could not believe in Hopkins' portrayal of Lector and my personal preference was for Brian Cox as I found the underlying callousness (without conscience) he conveyed convincing.  I watched Manhunter a couple of months ago, for the second time... it seemed so dated! I think out of the entire series, I enjoyed Hannibal Rising the most.

In Silence of the Lambs, the scene where Buffalo Bill is in his dressing room dancing around infront of the mirror (my personal favourite scene in the entire film), mouthing "Would you fuck me". I have to say, I certainly wanted to!

They have done remakes of The Hitcher.

Yes, a remake was done recently but trust me, don't bother with it. They managed to somehow suck all the tension and class out of it and turn it into a snorefest. Plus, as much as I like Sean Bean, nobody but nobody will ever touch the character of John Ryder like Rutger Hauer did.

Watch the original again instead.

See just the other night I was caught by a Movie. It isn't as intense as Silence of the Lambs but it got my attention and kept it. Oddly I am a Channel Surfer so my wife hates to watch TV with me, so when we get to watch a Movie on TV without flipping through the channels on a comercial it is a treat.

Cadence with Martin and Charlie Sheen and Lawrence Fishburn is one of those movies. I just always get drawn into that movie.

Another one is

Hudson Hawk some people think it's a Stupid Movie but it is one of my all time favorite Burce Willis Movies and when he and Danny Iello (SP?) Start singing Swing on a Star....  Classic.

Other great movies I get Stuck in is

Stalag 17 (Black and white- it was the movie that Hogans Heros was based off of)
The Great Escape (Loved this movie)

And one that you might not think of but this happened to me on Saturday

The Full Monty. GREAT FILM and the greatest part of it is you believe it and you feel for ALL the characters involved.

I saw Silence when it came out way back when (Anthony Hopkins on a fifty foot screen is truly creepy) and have seen it many times on DVD since then.

There's a wonderful true story that when the film was on general release Hopkins used to sneak into the back row of a inema just as the film was ending and then lean forward and whisper into the unlucky patron in the seat in front him's ear, "Did you enjoy the movie" in his Lector voice.

OMG, I'd have wet my pants right there in the seat!

I seem to recall AFI had a 'Top 50 Villians" list come out a few years ago, and Antony Hopkins as Lecter was in the top 10 as well as Darth Vader and The T-1000 liquid metal terminator.

I have Hannibal on video, love that one, Red Dragon was OK, but for some reason, Silence just doesn't do much for me. I liked it when I saw it in the theatre, but haven't watched it since then.  I have read the books, tho...they are great!
