Kansas Governor vetoes republican effort to deny legitimate voters their due rights of enfranchisement.

A very brave woman.

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius:

“Additionally, no elected official should support enacting new laws discouraging or disenfranchising any American who has been legally voting for years,” she wrote.

During debate, the bill’s advocates said the measure would help prevent voter fraud. The governor said Kansas already has secure, fair elections.

“HB 2019 seeks to solve a problem of voter fraud which does not exist in our state due to the tireless efforts of our local election officials,” the governor added.

One argument she used last year but couldn’t this year was an assertion that the measure might be unconstitutional.

The U.S. Supreme Court recently ruled that a photo identification requirement in Indiana was constitutional.

Supporters had hoped to avoid a veto this year by eliminating the fee for a photo identification card for low-income Kansans and exempting those voters 65 or older from the photo requirement.

Keep those illegal votes coming in for the Dems...

The Supreme Court has said that absolutely no evidence has been presented that proves asking for identification leads to disenfranchisement.

Well that tears it, then! Everybody knows how nonpartisan The Supremes are.

Which would include people that have been voting from the graveyard.  Owner, asking for a photo ID does not disenfrachise anyone.  It prevents fraud like the kind I just mentioned.  The Democratic Party is notorious for doing things like that.  I live in a state that's controlled by the Democrats.  They have pulled that kind of crap for 100 years.

Are they more non-partisan than National Public Radio?

I thought NPR sounded a little extreme, what with its absence of blatant advertising and quiet, informed voices. Hell! They even interview classical music orchestra directors. I should have known. I feel sullied.

And yet this 'very brave' governor has no problems with disenfranchising all the voters, by selecting herself to pick replacement members of Congress, and vetoing open elections...

Seriously... the GOP stoops to cheating to try and hold onto power as their failed policies grow ever more hated by the American public as more and more die for little to nothing, the country is rammed into recession, and nothing is done to solve our energy problems. First it was "redistricting" and now this. Now we find out that the McCain campagin is being financed (by $16 million dollars) by the Saudis. Elect the GOP again, and you sell America out to foreign control.

Swear to God, republicans are the most unamerican, disloyal, traitorous creeps to ever walk the Earth. You fuck with the elections, you take money from and sell power to dictators, and you may as well be in leauge with Castro, IMO.

Suck it, republicans.

Hell ya, government radio, that's always the very best propaganda available.

Is this a derail to get back to where you claimed that McCain's mom was member of a white's only country club and drunk near the hospital?

If not, feel free to explain how not letting dead people vote is cheating.

You sound just like NPR there, Buddy. You've got their spiel down pretty good!

Actually, he doesn't... have you actually listened to NPR, or have you just heard hysterical Fox reports on its supposed 'liberal' bias ? It's pretty reasonable, considering the amount of shit that's going on...

It doesn't lick the Republican party's arse. So what?

Actually, he does. I've listened to it. To your ears it's "useful information". To someone who isn't quite so biased it's far-left propaganda, it's trash - and I'm expected to help pay for it.

Kittin, I've listened to it and enjoy some of their programs.  I don't particularly enjoy the programs where some yuppie guy gives a 2 hour description of his trip to a national park.   But.....what the hell does this have to do with the thread?  If you want to debate NPR's value, than start a thread about it.
