camille65 -> Now its McCains pastor? (5/22/2008 11:53:10 AM)

Despite his call for the U.S. to win the "hearts and minds of the Islamic world," Sen. John McCain recruited the support of an evangelical minister who describes Islam as "anti-Christ" and Mohammed as "the mouthpiece of a conspiracy of spiritual evil."

http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/story?id=4905624&page=1

At a campaign appearance in Cincinnati, McCain introduced Parsley as "one of the truly great leaders in America, a moral compass, a spiritual guide."

It will be interesting to see how this relationship plays out, and the reaction for or against what this pastor says in comparison to Rev Wright.

Alumbrado -> RE: Now its McCains pastor? (5/22/2008 11:58:06 AM)

One big difference seems to be that criticism of Parsley can be founded in what he actually said, instead of the hoaxes cooked up about Obama and Wright.

Archer -> RE: Now its McCains pastor? (5/22/2008 12:32:15 PM)

Well the other big difference folks will want to ignore is McCain didn't sit in this church for 20 years lsitening to the man preach, having him baptise his children, and conduct McCains wedding.
Wright said plenty that I find abhorent, but I only note Obama's connection as a judgement indicator, I have said before it's a minor blip on the screen of what I hold against Obama as a candidate. Association with Whright scores about a 3 or maybe 4 on a good day on a scale of 1-10. Association with Parsley (?) holds about a 2-3 on the same 1-10 scale for McCain.

In before the storm

Alumbrado -> RE: Now its McCains pastor? (5/22/2008 12:42:10 PM)

Not sure how the fact that McCain has only recently proclaimed Parsley as his spiritual advisor makes a difference.

The allegations against Wright and Obama, from disingenuous spin to outright hoax, were thoroughly debunked, so 20 years of sitting in church is just 20 years of sitting in church.

  No, he`s sucking up to them now thought,isn`t he.

The Hagee monster(McCain's other crazy uncle) just blurted out some non-sense that the bible says that god created hitler specifically to kill 6 million Jewish people ,in order to create the state of Israel! lol

What a dope.

He`s the guy who calls the Catholic religion the great apostate,"the great whore".lol

Yeah Archer,real baseball,apple pie and Chevrolet....right there.Real wholesome stuff for McCain to embrace.

You were saying?

Archer -> RE: Now its McCains pastor? (5/22/2008 12:54:24 PM)

As I said niether of the pastor association is a big deal in my mind, niether Obama nor McCain will be getting my vote as I have said multiple times in other threads. McCains just registers as a lessor offence by a slight margin for me based on the length of time each has chosen to associate with their pastors.

Wrights words have not been debunked to my satisfaction in fact if the whole thing was debunked then why the disowning act by Obama??? (Political expedience) Oh my so what we have here is political expdience in pastor association on both the Rep and the Dem candidate.

So again it's a non starter in both cases for me it speaks to such a small part of the reason to choose a president that niether case ranks above a 3 or 4.

Alumbrado -> RE: Now its McCains pastor? (5/22/2008 12:58:31 PM)

Agreed on the political expedience, a move by Obama that I found very disappointing.

The claims against Wright fell apart under the light of day, just as did the same sorts of claims against Obama.

They are a small part to you, but I fear that the majority of the sheeple will be persuaded by the mudslinging above all else.

Owner59 -> RE: Now its McCains pastor? (5/22/2008 1:11:40 PM)

  He publicly/privately divorces himself from the guy.Throws him under the bus.

Denounces what he`s said,long before this was an issue.

Has never said anything personally or professionally to show he feels the same as Wright,ever.

He`s walking away from the man in the classiest way he can.
It`s certainly obvious that Wright is no friend of Obama.Quite the opposite.

And we have McCain running towards the nutters.....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So what are you saying Archer,that Obama carries secrete scary agendas that he`ll spring on us after the election?
That there`s some sinister plot to place a radical ~what-ever~ into office?
That Obama should be feared ?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Traditionally,black men have been portrayed two ways.

Either the non-threatening,happy go lucky "Sambo" type.

Or the crazy black man,dangerous with dark desires and inclinations.

I think the republican scare campaign that is casting Obama as somehow scary or dangerous b/c of his preacher,is the latter.

Irishknight -> RE: Now its McCains pastor? (5/22/2008 1:20:31 PM)

lol, I've heard many preachers refer to the catholic church as "the great whore."  I've also heard preachers say that you have to be immersed in water to get into heaven and that those who were merely "sprinkled" are going to hell.  I could continue the list but all that it shows is that many churches spend too much time putting down other beliefs to even begin to follow what they profess to believe.
I gave up churches and the biblical religions to try to save a shred of my sanity.  I'm not sure what I did with that shred but its around here somewhere.  Maybe my wife knows where I put it.  Now that I follow a pagan path, I can be hated by all churches equally and I no longer have to take a side.

Alumbrado -> RE: Now its McCains pastor? (5/22/2008 1:26:58 PM)

Yeah but it only really matters if you piss off Cthulu

Owner59 -> RE: Now its McCains pastor? (5/22/2008 1:30:02 PM)

"Now that I follow a pagan path"

Pagan ehh,wow,that`s tough.

I`m a recovering agnostic.....[;)]

I don't know how familiar you are with different Protestant denominations Owner, but there are a lot of them that collectively believe these same things.  Seventh Day Adventist believe the anti-Christ will be a future Pope.  Jehovah's Witnesses believe the Catholics will persecute those that refuse to bow to the anti-Christ during the Tribulation.  As for the Jews, some like Hagee and his followers believe they are literally the Chosen people, and will join Christians at the battle of Armegeddon.  While some like this nut Pastor Arnold Murray that broadcasts out of my state believe the Jews are the offspring of Cain, who was the bastard son of Eve and Satan (remember the serpent in the garden of Eden.)

I am not defending it; they are all nuts in my opinion including the mainstream churches.  But you can't expect a Presidential candidate to tell an entire religious group to fuck off.  I don't expect it from Obama or McCain.

Archer -> RE: Now its McCains pastor? (5/22/2008 1:38:11 PM)

Wright is scarey, his presentation makes him so, far more than the actual meaning behind the words.
Combined with several other individuals Obama has chosen to associate with the pattern is there not that he's some scarey radical black panther, but enough to tell me he's far more liberal leaning towards socialist than he has portrayed himself in order to get elected. Thus I rate the Wright thing in the 3-4 on a 1-10 scale.

Is it being played up for political scare tactics sure somewhat, but no more than the papers here printing 2 page articles on white supremasists saying someone is going to put a bullet in Obama. Fear Tactics are far from a single party tactic.
Should have heard the ads here in Georgia during the last election " “You think fighting off dogs and water hoses in the ‘60s was bad?” Lewis intones. Young declares Republican rule would “turn back the clock on equal rights.” Franklin says the work of Martin Luther King Jr. and other civil rights heroes would be lost."

Just wondering how many of you have a spiritual advisor? I consider myself a christian but do not think of my pastor as an advisor..I leave that to my personal interpretation of the Bible.

I'm a Deist, I don't need an advisor.  I believe in a Creator because I think it's reasonable to assume the universe is not an accident.  It's not a religion, it's a philosophy.

Has McCain claimed he has a spiritual advisor or has someone with a political agenda attributed one to him?

As for myself if I were to run for office I would say vote for me according to my position on issues. As for religion it is my private business and none of yours...If that’s a problem I don’t want your vote. I’d bet that would get me more votes then not.

"McCain sought the support of Pastor Rod Parsley of the World Harvest Church of Columbus, Ohio at a critical time in his campaign in February, when former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee was continuing to draw substantial support from the Christian right. "

It certainly looks like he claims to have him as a spiritual advisor, yes.

bipolarber -> RE: Now its McCains pastor? (5/22/2008 2:40:40 PM)

And people wonder why I'm a pastapharian...
(You don't see the Flying Spaghetti Monster [FSM] inspiring hate speech like this.)

Wright preaches for 20 years, and the media takes one twenty second sound bite, (taken from a period when the US's policies overseas have begun to show their lack of thought, if not outright malice toward innocent people) and makes it sound like this is how he runs his church, 24/7/365. Where's the justice in that?

Now we have McCain, courting this nutjob. He works for his endorsement, and refuses to denounce him, even when it comes to like that the guy is an anti-gay fascist. Now, it turns out that he feels Hitler was a Godsend. Still McCain stays silent...

I'm supposed to think about a guy who listens to and possibly agrees with this sort of neo-nazi drivel?

To those of us who actually believe in the US Constitution, and have Jewish friends in our lives, we think that maybe this is just a little off the beam, where sanity is concerened. Calling the organized, and governmentally sactioned murder of 6,000,000+ people tends to make one thing that maybe God wasn't really underwriting their actions. Yeah, being "politically correct" is just a bunch a BS... but there's a difference between trying to tolerate differing ideas, and identifying an enemy of humanity. McCain's pastor has identified himself as very much the latter... if John McCain fails to distance himself, the media will continue to dig deeper and deeper into this guy's body of work. Something tells me they won't be coming up empty handed.
