NakedOnMyChain -> Paranormal (10/24/2005 3:05:25 AM)

With Halloween quickly approaching, I figured I would ask a semi-appropriate question. I'm an avid ghost hunter and paranormal investigator, and I wondered if any of you shared that passion. Do you believe in the supernatural or paranormal? Do you go ghost hunting? Have you ever had a close encounter of the scary kind that you couldn't explain? Have you seen Bigfoot? (I KNEW IT! One out of four. Damn, I'm good.)

frenchpet -> RE: Paranormal (10/24/2005 3:21:55 AM)

If I had an experience of anything surnatural, I would record some proof of it and claim a million euros for it... hmm, there's only 200k€ here, but I think there is another prize I could claim...

smilezz -> RE: Paranormal (10/24/2005 4:43:05 AM)

I am not a hunter or investigator...but i have my quirks.

Happy Monday y'all!!

Littlepita -> RE: Paranormal (10/24/2005 5:30:39 AM)

I do believe in the supernatural and I stay away from it. As a Christian it's against the rules to go searching out anything having to do with ghost or paranormal activity. Plus, seeing a ghost would freak me out! [&:]

MistressKaren51 -> RE: Paranormal (10/24/2005 5:37:17 AM)

Sometimes these things search us out...we don't have to look for them. It's usually those who are not expecting anything to experience the unexplainable.

All my life [:)] Paranormal is something I've had to deal with since childhood. I was born with the ability to feel and see spirits. Interesting gift at times. Not to mention that the house I grew up in was like danged spook central.

Feel free to email me and we can chat more about it.

EmeraldSlave2 -> RE: Paranormal (10/24/2005 7:23:36 AM)

Hmmm the short answer is yes. I was lucky enough in college to have an advisor who gave a regular course on Philosophy and Parapsychology. There are some excellent texts out there for actual histories and research.

The problem is the wording. We don't know enough about how nature works to be able to declare that something is "supernatural" or "paranormal." The best we can say is that something is "(presently) unexplained." But such things may well turn out to be as natural as anything else. Words like "supernatural" and "paranormal" really serve only to mystify.

No.

Yes. I would love to hear somebody say they have NEVER experienced anything they could not explain.

No.

greenie -> RE: Paranormal (10/24/2005 8:23:31 AM)

Most of my life, from birth to about 27 yrs old, i was in the Pacific N.W., from Humboldt County, CA up to many parts of WA state and i haven't seen bigfoot.
i was once pushed from behind down a flight of stairs when no one was behind me, luckily i had 2 cousins in front of me and they stopped me half way down.
i wouldn't even consider being involved in a ghost hunt or anything similar, i get too freaked out. However, i love to watch the ghost hunting shows. Anyone else seen that show "Scariest Places on Earth"?

I don't have to hunt, the wierd stuff seems to find me. Why on earth I don't know why. [:)]

I don't have cable, so not see the show you talked about, unfortunately. Sounds like an interesting show.

I think the wierdest thing that's happened to me was the day of my late husband's funeral. I heard an almost demonic voice for all of about two seconds,a multicolored blob of light floated past to infront of my son's crib where he was. Then, our then 17 month old son started saying "da da" and was pointing wherever the light showed up at.

It hovered in front of our son for about thirty seconds, then just as quickly dissapeared into the wall. The freakiest part was the demonic voice just before my late husband entered the room. My late husband commited suicide, we'd been seperated for three months, so the demonic voice does have me wondering if something was after him as he passed through.

EmeraldSlave2 -> RE: Paranormal (10/24/2005 9:14:22 AM)

If I went over every circumstance of what is generally considered "paranormal" then we'd be here too terribly long and it would look like I'm trying to make myself some uber-paranormal special psychic chick.

Discussing these things in personal detail is actually something I only do with close friends, and then only rarely. It's a very personal intimate experience for me, one subject I don't discuss publicly.

Never been a ghosthunter. I did spend much of my teenage years hanging out in cemetaries with friends. I've always figured dead people need fun to.
I do believe ghost's exists. If you believe in god and heaven I think you have to somewhat believe in ghosts. Read Revelations in the bible. What happens to people when they die?
Mishap's are bound to happen...etc..etc. The spirit that didn't follow the path they were given and is now lost. Etc.
My mother died a little over 3 year's ago now. She was on a ventilator. I had to unplug her. I waited until she died before I left the room. All the while speaking to her. Telling her it was ok to go if she needed to.
Being the person I am and feeling a presence around me now and then. I've never felt my mother since her death and I told her she could go.
Now, my sister died about 3 month's later. The hospital called me and asked me to come down to say goodbye. Her hospital was an hour away. Missed it. I've felt her presence from time to time.
Perhap's she did not know she could go? I have no idea other than my feelings. I've read the research. There is some pretty valid stuff out there. Yet for some reason there will always be some who just don't believe.
No to the rest of your questions. Although there was this same discussion last year around this time. Several links to haunted places. I know there is auniversal link to haunted houses for the US. Real houses not made up stuff. There were some in most cities. Maybe a haunted places search on goole would be appropriate?
Or dig up last year's thread on CM.

Kindred2Evil -> RE: Paranormal (10/24/2005 11:39:00 AM)

Yes, I have ghost hunted. Some of it turned out to be complete horse manure (people scaring each other by repeating the stories they've heard) and other times, wwweeEEellll, that' different.
I believe in the paranormal, that there are things that few people understand, and most people deny. I've heard voices when I was alone, had things move, watched things flitter in and out of the most unexpected places.
Of course, I'm Wiccan so maybe that explains it.
As for bigfoot, I honestly couldn't say. He rates right up there with aliens. Who's to say he/she/it couldn't be real?

LaMalinche -> RE: Paranormal (10/24/2005 12:56:21 PM)

Someone please give these people the email to the Amazing Randi foundation. You could win a MILLION dollars.

Ah well, I'll look it up later and post it. But whoever wins HAS to share. :)

Here. Thanks, I couldn't remember the name. I think you can also still claim the 200k€ ofrered by the Laboratoire de zététique I mentionned.

Honestly LAM, I've never experienced anything I could not explain. That is, with the exception of human behavior. I'm still wondering why Chirac is in the Élysée instead of being in jail, or why people rejected the European Constitution. But when it comes to laws of physics, I've never encountered any ghosts or anything like that.

Lordandmaster -> RE: Paranormal (10/24/2005 2:56:19 PM)

You've never experienced ANYTHING you can't explain?

Well, try this one for starters (since physicists the world over are trying to explain it): Why is gravity weaker than the other forces? I think there's a Nobel Prize waiting for you if you have a persuasive answer.

frenchpet -> RE: Paranormal (10/24/2005 3:10:23 PM)

Lol, I don't think that's what OP had in mind. I think the question was about things that defies laws of physics, things that are momentary and limited exceptions to the laws of physics which are supposed to be the same anywhere in the universe, not about strange laws of physics. So the EPR effect doesn't qualify either, as I understand the question, because any alien from any galaxy could observe the EPR effect, if it has the required technology (as far as we know).

There is also a reference of it in this (the Off-topic) forum under the post "Ever" from a week ago. Also, I'd like to add a disclaimer to my views. Just because I believe in ghosties, goblins and wee little beasties does not mean that I'm a psychic or have any special abilities. I may see things that others don't, I may have intuitions others don't, but I don't believe that I could intentionally prove a thing, nor would I want to. I can't summon something up on demand, it's more likely that these things summon me. It's my belief that many aspects of the"paranormal" (though LaM is correct, it's a roughly defined phrase,) do exist. I don't feel the need to defend that. It simply exists, for me. If you disagree or are uncomfortable sharing your experiences, that is your right and I respect that.

You should not have to. If people had an open mind they may see something they don't see right now as well. It only shows a level of ignorance on their part.

Do they exist for a fact? I've no clue. I believe they do and I have much to back that up with.
Just like the bible. Just like the government of the US...we all have different views. Doesn't mean any of them are right or wrong.

All it mean's is it works for us.

DrkAngl -> RE: Paranormal (10/24/2005 5:13:36 PM)

There is a book out called "Children Of The Matrix" it's found in the new age section of book stores. That one makes my skin crawl, so to speak.
