I used to love flying, now the grind of security and cramped seats and just plain nastiness has taken the fun out. I have no fear of it, certainly. My mom and I will take off in pretty much anything, we will even wind up the rubber bands! We haven't gone up in a zeppelin yet.....someday! Now that the cost of flying has skyrocketed, even the small trips like Chicago are getting re-evaluated. Mom and I are going to glamourous Ingleside Il to visit an old friend, and at first I said, cool, we fly into Ohare, rent a car, lots of time saved. Welllll I guess our time isn't worth THAT much, so we will be driving! I love to drive, but taking the time to do it? Meh. I have 300 mile circle ( a tank of gas, kinda) that I am willing to drive, beyond that? Thank you, Orville and Wilbur!

really the only time i fly is if i'm in a LDR...it's the only time i can really travel, or i should say, it's the only time i think it is important enough to travel. now, if i were a high roller with tons of money, i'd be jet setting all over the place but i'm not....not yet anyway...my life is less than half over, i can do so many things with it still!

But, hell, i'll drive just about anywhere... coast to coast in 83 hours, but i know i could beat the fuck out of that with better weather and a bigger fuel tank... [8D]

I've taken 5 airline trips in the last 7 months, all for pleasure. No fear of flying, no aggravation about airport security, I just love the traveling. The whole bag checking fee stinks, but I bought a reeeeeally big hobo bag (translate that to BIG purse, for men who don't know what a hobo bag is) that fits my laptop, a change of clothes, and toiletries, so it's all good. :) Seriously, I can't travel enough.

Hmph! It's so damn expensive to drive and even more expensive to fly. I'd rather hitch hike and obey "the unwritten rules of the road" according to Jay and Silent Bob. Heck, if it'll get me a few hundred miles, I'll take a shot in the mouth! Besides, Listerine mouthwash is a hell of a lot cheaper that gas at this point! LMAO!!!!!

i've flown before, have no fear of flying, and can say take off is one of the airplane noises (?) i enjoy... relaxing, in a way, for me [:)]

This month did my first OS trip via Qantas, cattle class to and from Singapore, ex Sydney. We sat both ways in the last two seats next to the window on the right as you face the cockpit. I saw so much of Australia that i'll probably not see anyother way. We lost the light towards the NSW border. On the way home, we flew in over Broome, near the Ord River, down the Centre. Over the Sandy Desert, somewere around the Simpson Desert the plane banked and about 15 mins later we flew over The Rock on the left hand side, i spent so much time looking i missed the Olgas on the right ... yet i like travelling by train. My car was a write off about 3 years ago, and for a time had to use PT. For short trips no thanks for longer ones, it's a treat. The seats are better than suburban trains, more room than cattle class, the toilets have more room, and while you have to pay for the food, it's better than airline - if you pick wisely. so i'm with Feary, travelling by land you see so much more and in better comfort, i just can't stand buses.

I love to fly, though I haven't had a reason to in a long time. Despite being utterly petrified of heights, I feel perfectly safe on a plane....go figure [sm=dunno.gif]
