With increasing fuel costs and now fees including for checked luggage, service fees, charging for meals and in-flight services, I'm curious as to how many of us fly on a regular, semi-regular basis or rare basis. Prices just took a steep jump this weekend and now their charging to check even one piece of luggage. So vote away and let's hear your thoughts on the airline industry...

(Sorry - this isn't one of Level's great polls, just my first ever poll out of sheer curiousity!)

I don't mind flying but given the choice, I will always drive. This has nothing to do with gas cost, I just always enjoyed the drive and felt it was part of the vacation. I might feel different, if I were flying for business, but I have never done that, so I don't know. My favorite drive is straight down 75 to Orlando, but that may have a lot to do with the destination also.

As for me, I admit to being a regular flyer up til now. My life is in the process of changing yet again so who knows where it will go. I've flown all my life and usually fly a number of times a year. Some years more, some years less. At one time, business had me flying monthly, another time, mommyhood had me home and not flying for 3 years. I've flown small regional airlines (scary at times) to large international carriers like Qantas and a couple of others. I tend to take it for granted which is why the current situation is pissing me off..... Ok, rant over...

I'll just started flying last year, taking REAL vacations w/my grandson. Just booked my next flight in July & Aug. Gonna meet a real life flying monkey in July then in Aug will meet a real life Angel both on CM's MB"s!

I do both, orfunboi. I live out west, for now, and have been known to drive 15,000 to 20,000 miles a year, in addition to my flying. I do some serious traveling at times. I love driving but at times, driving isn't practical. But it sure is beautiful, you see so much more of the sights, experience the local food, people, everything!

First let me say i am NOT afraid to fly. I am, however, not overly fond of crashing. I used to fly quite a bit for business but now that mommyhood has KO'd my career i see no reason to get on a plane.

Well... really.... it depends on whether you mean ALL flying, or just Airline flying.

If you mean ALL flying, then yeah, I fly on a regular basis - I am a certificated private instrument pilot after all, and I love to go up in small planes for any reason or no reason at all other than to be off the ground.

If you mean strictly Airline flying - about once a year, and only because it's less expensive (even with the fees, etc) to get someplace I Have to go than it is to rent a puddlejumper and fly myself there, or I'm gonna be there longer than a couple of days.  I'm not at all fond of being in the passenger compartment of the Heavies that the various airlines use - primarily because of the paranoid, panicy non-fliers who are so frequently stuck there with me.

Yes, I'd say that this is geared towards airline flying, Rhi. Mass cattle transportation of the masses shoved into questionable (at times) planes with no place to go but to sit on yer bum and not let the kid kicking your seat give you too bad a headache. Or the one screaming two rows over either. *winks*  I've been pretty fortunate and try to schedule my flights when it's mostly business people so I don't get a lot of families or children on the flights.

I love flying and would do much more if I could afford it.  This year I have flown overseas twice and interstate twice and am about to head over to melbourne for the third time this year.  I have flown once on one of the no-frills arilines but I prefer paying a bit more and getting some extra space and meals.  I am the person who always has a big grin on my face when we are taking off and landing- it is the best part of the flight.

Strangely enough, Rain, my older daughter used to go fly with me (in the puddlejumpers lol) on a regular and even downright Frequent basis.  She LOVES to fly - private, commercial, doesn't matter as long as she gets a window seat so she can sit there entranced by watching the clouds go by.

Children in a plane don't bother me at all - so long as their parents are the ones in control in the family, rather than the children being the ones in control in the family.  (Screaming infants who are physically uncomfortable due to the pressure differences are another matter - they aren't children, they're simply a screaming annoyance.)

I love to fly..........hate the airport crap. Used to fly alot for work, now rarely. Haven't have the extra $$ for any vacations in the last few years so no fun trips.

If I had my choice I would be flying my own plane. I've loved flying since I was a little kid and got to go up in an open airplane a friend of my dad's built.

i hate flying, i fear flying. i hate the thumps and bumps.
Four years ago when i was still with the ex, we took the kids to Disneyland.  It had been since i was 18 since i was on a plane before that.
Anywho, i took an ativan and had a couple of shots of Jack before getting on to calm my nerves, i still cried like a baby.  my 7 year old twins tried to comfort me, LOL.
i know that statistically, flying is safer then driving, but damn, i don't want to know when i am about to die and when flying, you pretty much have a large amount of time when you know you are going to die if that plane falls.  No thank you.

flying is pointless when you have greyhound.  on greyhound you can socialize and see many parts of the country that would never happen on a plane.

greyhound = $200-250 tops.  plane = $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

yes there aresome flights cheaper than greyhound.  there's a reason for that.  the airline sucks shit and the seats suck shit as well as the service sucks shit.

greyhound if you can handle crowds and long rides...can be quite fun.

you are my hero!!

when i flew on business i always wanted to sit in the back of the plane cause i heard that people in the back died first and...hell...why prolong the agony. Then someone asked if a plane ever BACKED into a mountain. From then on i was too drunk to care where i sat.

The first time I was ever on a plane I was scared to death.  By the time I landed I was in  love with the whole experience.  Because of different changes in my life I haven't been able to fly in a long time but I am looking forward to being able to travel again.
