My initial response of course was "ME!"  I was only able to hold back for a few minutes.

Holding back only makes the release all that more delish  .

What's a heterosexual girl to do???

She has no concern with such masculine things as 'conscience' and 'ethics'! Enjoy your nail polish, and don't you worry your pretty little head over such matters: big strong men are there to think those things over for you  .

I said girl, not girly.

Maybe this will help: I am writing a story in which the main character is torn between, fulfilling her intended purpose, and being relieved of her purpose.

I thought that this would be caused by her conscience. Now I am not so sure.

Funny, that doesn't sound like the usual voices; and where's the potty mouth?

*snort - snicker*  Thanks for the giggle, guys.

BTW, it's ethics over conscience most of the time......except when it's not!

How would you define the word, conscience?

I'd describe it as the damn little voice in my head that keeps me awake at night worrying about the consequences of my actions if I were to get caught, or the results that I would be forced to live with based on the choice that I made.  Fortunately, through either my own personal ethics or my choices, I don't have to listen to it very often.  My own ethics and conscience are often seen walking along hand-in-hand.  But in some cases, they are also interchangeable.  Being true to one keeps me true to the other.  But the bottom line is that I must be true to myself.

I thought conscience was the ability to tell right from wrong, not the thing that kept you awake because you were worried about getting caught: that's regret  .

Not to be confused with remorse, either. Remorse comes after we've done something.

Ethics or guilt; how do you decide?

I keep in line with my ethics and I don't do guilt. Works great for me.

damn, kitten......you're thinking faster than I am...but that's not unusual......I'm caffeine deprived!

Well, I don't have many regrets because I contemplate the actions and results prior to making my decision.  No matter if it's a snap decision following my guts, or one that I've thought over until I'm crazy.  Although, I will admit that I've regretted a few decisions made in the heat of a hormonal rush!

Conscience is motivated by the ethical and moral principles and by knowing yourself.  Not by guilt.  Guilt comes into it when you violate those ethical and moral principles you adhere to.

And then there's mother's guilt, the irrational feeling that one has somehow failed their offspring(s) for lack of being absolutely perfect. I've been battling with that one for ten years, no matter how much I tell myself it's wrong to feel guilty for doing my best  .

Unless you then go on to found a major religion...then they call you Son of God.  Or a Patriarch.

"It's the same thing," he said.

Hugs kittin - I learnt a while back from a very wise man that perfection doesn't actually exist and when I realised that - guilt didn't own me anymore...

A Jewish friend of mine once told me of soimething calle "Jewish mother's guilt."  It is a form of guilt that can be projected onto others to make tham feel that they have failed their maternal parent.
